That was really nice. The kindness and earnestness of one girl broke a chain of generational hatred, jealousy, and unfair judgment.
Somehow, I’m not even annoyed that we got the ultimate happy ending where even all the villains got their chance at redemption, since it aligns with the “moral” of the story.
If there’s a second season, I’ll definitely be there. If not, it was a nice, self-contained story that feels complete.

第2期は確実。玲琳の兄たちと、慧月を狙う賊が最後に登場したし、もう制作中という信頼できるリークもある。

Oh, this show is definitely getting a second season, especially since this episode ended with the introduction of Reirin's brothers and the bandits/rebels who are after Keigetsu.
Plus, there's a credible leak that it's already in production, so I'm quite sure we'll get the official announcement of the next season of Reirin and Keigetsu's adventures right after the episode finishes airing on Japanese TV.

The anime's official Xwitter account had even released official birthday art for one of the brothers and one of the rebels back in August and July this year.

雅媚の回想に出てくる、まだ歪む前の慧月にも、あの派手な服の趣味があるのが良い。第1話で彼女の服のひどさがわざわざ説明されていたから、玲琳が入った慧月がまともな服を着てきたときの驚きが、踊りの腕前と同じくらい効いていた。

I like how pre-corrupted Keigetsu in Gabu's flashback still has that gaudy fashion sense. The first episode had a blurb saying how awful her clothes are which is why Reirin-in-Keigetsu's body having actual decent clothes on was just as much of a surprise as her dance skills.

自分はあの回想で、慧月がどれだけ幸せそうかのほうに目が行っていて、服の趣味なんて考えもしなかった。
でも確かに、朱雅媚が教えなかったのなら、慧月に着こなしが身についていないのも当然だ。

To be honest, I mostly focused on how happy Keigetsu was in that flashback, so I didn't even bother considering her fashion sense. But well, no wonder Keigetsu didn't have any fashion sense if Shu Gabi didn't teach her that.
I'm sure that will change now, though, because as we learned in today's episode, whenever she swaps bodies with Reirin now, she's rigorously trained by Tousetsu, lol.

冬雪との関係はこれからどうなっていくんだろう。常に緊密に連携しなければいけない立場になるわけで。

I wonder how the relationship between Tousetsu will develop? They really will have to work in close coordination on a constant basis.

第1話で慧月が着てた黒い衣と髪飾り、今のところあれが一番似合ってると思う。何がダメなのか分からん

That black robe and hairpin on Keigetsu in 1st episode is her best look so far. Don't see what's wrong with it.

噂と作り話は、本物の呪いより危ない。あれだけの悲劇が、第三者が言葉で焚きつけて、弱っている人につけ込んだだけで起きた。ここには何かしら教訓があると思う。

Rumors and making s**t up: more dangerous than literal magic curses. All that tragedy from a 3rd party starting s**t up with her words and exploiting someone's vulnerability. There's probably a lesson somewhere.

しかもあの悲劇全部の引き金でありながら、金麗雅は完全に逃げおおせている。

And despite being the catalyst for all of this tragedy, she gets away with it completely.

本当に危ういのは、普通に会話ができないことだ。絹秀『弱った雅媚を音信不通にして恨ませよう』からの『本当に金麗雅の言葉を信じたの？』だぞ。

Personally I think the real danger is the inability to have a normal conversation.

主演二人の演技を称えたい。一つの役で二人分を演じ分けてて、目の色が変わらなくても聞き分けられる。

Let's take a moment to appreciate how well the two main voice-actresses performances are. Essentially voicing 2 characters in 1 role
Keigetsu & Reirin the speech pattern are so distinct, as the audience you can probably tell them apart without the eye-color changing.

どちらが玲琳か見分けたいなら、やたらと頬を押さえて、下手くそに悪女を演じているほうを見ればいい。

Just watch for which one holds their cheek way too much... and badly acting like a villainess...

It was actually pretty surreal seeing/hearing them back in their own bodies with their own voices outside internal narration.

But judging by the last few seconds, surely this is a disguised season 2 announcement, right... Right?

慧月の侍女が朱家に残るのが好きだ。誰にも見られない隠れ家で、玲琳にとっての特別な存在であり続けたいから、という理由がいい。本当にいい子だ。
そして入れ替わるたび、玲琳は人生を謳歌し、慧月のほうは冬雪にしごかれ続ける。気の毒に。

I love how Leelee stays at the Shu clan because she wants to remain special to Reirin at their hideout, where nobody else can see them. She's such a gem.
Also love how whenever they swap, Rerin still has the time of her life while Keigetsu continues to suffer at the hands of Tousetsu. Poor girl can't catch a break!
Pretty depressing Gabi held onto that hatred for 20 years. That is a REALLY long time. If only Kenshuu tried to reconcile with her from the start... Oh how different this story would have been.
In the end, I absolutely enjoyed this anime. I am really hoping for a season 2!

正直、入れ替わりが続くのは慧月にとっても良いことだ。新しい親友ができただけでなく、冬雪から後宮の作法を仕込んでもらえる。日々の暮らしがずいぶん楽になるはずだ。もともと下級の女官だった侍女には、そこまでは教えられない。

Tbh the constant swappings is also great for Keigetsu. Besides getting a new bestie, having Tousetsu to mentor her in Inner Court etiquette should go a long way in helping her daily life. Remember that Leelee was originally just a lower ranked court lady so she lacks the necessary expertise to teach Keigetsu and she's her only ally in the Shu Palace.

それに雅媚がいなくなった今、慧月は事実上、朱家を率いる立場になった。

And with Gabi gone Keigetsu is effectively the leader of the Shu Clan now.

あの小屋にいろんな人が代わる代わる訪ねてくる場面の流し方、地味に面白かった。

The slide show of the other peeps visiting their little shack was kinda amusing.

玲琳が健康な体で「遊ぶ」ために、慧月にしつこく入れ替わりをねだり続け、殿下はどちらに玲琳が入っているかを当て続けなければならない。

そして新キャラと新しい筋の提示で終わるあの引き。

Reirin continues to bully ask Keigetsu to constantly swap so she can "play" around in the healthy body while the Prince has to keep guessing which body Reirin is inhabiting.
I just can't with these body swap shenanigans 🤣
And with an ending like that (a new character introduction + a new plotline) that's a near guarantee of a Season 2.
What an amazing ending.
Lastly, I'm glad Kenshuu and Gabi reconciled in the end but man, in case you forgot about her... F**K REIGA

入れ替わりのおかげで好き放題みんなと遊び回れるんだから、玲琳がそのおいしい状況を自分から手放すわけがない。
絹秀も雅媚も、結局は性悪の金麗雅こそが本当の元凶だったって認めたようなもんだよな

Far be it from Reirin to ruin the good thing she has going with the body-swaps when she can have fun and play around with everyone to her heart's content.

Kenshuu and Gabi both basically admitting that the bitch Reiga was the real problem.

Wow Kin Reiga is truly the worst. Pretty sure it means that she caused the whole misscarriage to Shu Gabi in the first place. That incense was really suss.
Really hope that it gets future seasons and the vixen gets what is coming for her.

玲琳が素晴らしいのはもちろんとして、この季の終わりに、慧月付きの侍女を脇役の光る一人として挙げておきたい。ここまで好きになるとは思っていなかった。またたくさん見たいし、できれば朱家でも黄家でも高い位置まで上がってほしい。

Reirin is great, of course.
But as this season ends, I'd like to highlight Leelee as a standout side character. Wasn't expecting to like her as much as I do now! I hope we see more of her, and hopefully she rises high in either the Shu or Kou clans.
I wonder if the Shu consort position will have a replacement...?

Honestly good solution actually, and not only for Reirin.

Tousetsu tempering Keigetsu while in Reirin's body would ultimately shape her characters and her lack of skill outside of sorcery.

これぞ最終回の作り方だ。自分の体に戻った玲琳はまるで別人で、落ち着いて抑えが効いてる。慧月も同じ。

now this is how you do a finale. I'd put the Sogdian whirling dance over this but this is definitely one of the better episodes. Reirin seems like a totally different character in her own body. More calm and controlled. Same with Keigetsu. The new characters all look very interesting.

That’s precisely it. Remember how happy she became the moment she found out how hardy Keigetsu’s body was?

1期の締め方からして、2期があるのはまず間違いない。朱雅媚は、人生の半分を金麗雅に惑わされて浪費した、本当に悲しい人物だ。そして作品は、同じことを次の世代——慧月と玲琳にも投げかけようとしているように見える。

The way they ended the first season strongly implied there will be a season 2 for sure. Shu Gabi is such a tragic character that wasted half of her life misled by Reiga. But the show seems to project the same thing to the next generation in Keigetsu and Reirin.

慧月は本気で雅媚を母親みたいに慕ってたのに、雅媚は計画と殿下を失った悲しみで頭がいっぱいで、慧月に必要な母親になってあげられなかった。見てて胸が痛かった

Honestly seeing that Keigetsu genuinely looked at her like a mother but Gabi was too caught up in her plot/grief over her prince to be able to be the mother Keigetsu needed was heartbreaking.

雅媚を気の毒に思って見終わるとは思わなかった。今年屈指の脚本だ。

I did not expect to come away from this feeling happy for Gabi. This show had some of the best writing of the year.
Keigetsu's true punishment continues with the older brothers and apparently an angry mob?

慧月のことを考えると、あの子は庶民で、親が借金を返さないことにしたせいで道端から拾い上げられたんだよな。借金取りは取り立てを諦めずに村全体に八つ当たりした一方で、「不運な娘」のほうは（村人から見れば）贅沢三昧、ってことになってたんじゃないかと思う。
それに加えて、雅媚のやったことは多分世間に知れ渡るから、雅媚に関わってて殿下に赦されなかった人間はみんな白い目で見られるだろうな。雅媚がどういう経緯で後宮に入ったのかは詳しく描かれてないけど、慧月の出身地のあたりでは雅媚の一族がそれなりに力を持ってるんじゃないかな

Thinking on Keigetsu, she was a commoner that was plucked off the street once her parents opted out of not repaying their debts. I'm betting that the debt collector didn't let go of what was owed and took it out on the whole village, while the 'unfortunate maiden' got to live in luxury (in their eyes).

On top of that, word of Gabi's actions will likely get out, leading to everyone associated with her, but not pardoned by the prince, to be shunned. They don't go into details about how Gabi ended up in the inner court, but I'm guessing her family has some influence in the region Keigetsu was from.

誰かに更生のチャンスを与えて、追い詰められた状況から抜け出させることで、もっと良くなれるって証明させるやり方…

How to give someone the chance at redemption and to prove they can be better at working them out of a corner...

慧月の表情が本当に好きだ。
よく書けた人物だと思う。最初は近寄りがたいのに、憎しみも嫉妬も怒りも焦りも溢れている。そこから少しずつ別の面を見せて、脆くて弱い人だと分かってくる。慧月はただ幸せになりたいだけなんだ。

I really loves Keigetsu expressions.
She is a well written character. At first, she was unapproachable, yet full of emotions, such as, hatred, jealousy, anger, and frustration. Slowly she showed us another side of her, Keigetsu turnout to be a frail, and weak person. Keigetsu just want to be happy, and she willing to do anything to achieve that. How can I hate such a passionate character?
TLDR: Keigetsu > Reirin

慧月がどれだけ良い人物か、もう気づいている人がこんなにいて嬉しい。彼女の人気はまだ始まったばかりだ。

What happens when you guys encounter the Church of Reirin?

玲琳はこの世で一番優しい存在だけど、慧月が気づいてなかったのは、玲琳が内側では限界を抱えて苦しんでたってこと…作られた憎しみを押し付けられて、玲琳を違う目で見るように仕向けられてたんだよな。
ある意味キャラの救済で、慧月に必要だったのはそれに気づける優しい心の持ち主だったってことか。あるいは単に、丈夫な体を手に入れて自分の家の周りでスターデューバレーみたいな暮らしを始められたのが嬉しかっただけかもしれんけど

Reirin is the kindest thing on earth but what Keigetsu didn't realise is she was limited and struggling on the inside... fake hatred pushed on her to make her look differently upon her.
Sort of a redemption of the character and how she is just someone who needed a kind heart to spot it or just happy they had a fit body to start stardew valley'ing around her own place.

Reirin evolves.
Reirin asking that she be permitted to swap like she's now some spirit that possesses others.

薬屋のひとりごとほど史実に忠実じゃないから、全員が助かった。雅媚は幽閉と追放で済み、慧月は冬雪と玲琳の相手をするだけだ。

Thankfully, this setting is not as true to history as in Apothecary Diaries, so all people involved got spared (Gabi only got imprisoned, banished, and have to deal with her curse, while Keigetsu just has to deal with Tousetsu and Reirin on regular basis now).
And I am glad second cour already confirmed for January. While it was not my favourite or most surprising shows this season, I liked it a lot. And it will neatly fit the gap between Apothecary Diaries S3 cours.

They did this thinking Keigetsu will get bogged down by the pressure and voluntarily step down from the position and the Shu clan will present a better candidate. Unfortunately for them though is that Keigetsu now has unnofficial Kou clan backing that's arguably way better than whatever the Shu can do.!<

あと個人的に言わせてほしいんだけど、玲琳と慧月は本来の体のときのデザインのほうがずっと好き。玲琳のタレ目と慧月のツリ目の対比がほんとに綺麗なんだ。
それに俺は「黙ってると不機嫌そうに見える顔」のキャラが大好きでさ。慧月のデザインと「中華風の舞台」が、そもそもこの作品にハマった一番の理由だった

Also I just have to say: Personally I like Reirin's and Keigetsu's design much more when they are in their actual bodies. Reirin's tareme eyes and Keigetsu's tsurime eyes are just a beautiful contrast.

Plus I am a big fan of characters with "resting bitch face" - Keigetsu's design and the "Chinese setting" were the main reasons which got me into the series in the first place.

That's a bit of a hot take here, I think a lot of people like Reirin and Keigetsu when they're swapped XD

On my end I like Reirin, I like Keirin (Keigetsu in Reirin's body) and Reigetsu (Reirin in Keigetsu's body), if we're just talking appearances. Sorry, Keigetsu. Still, this episode shows us that Keigetsu can be pretty if she's not wearing garish stuff and isn't sneering all the time, with those flashbacks with Gabi and how she looked like during the sentencing.

Keigetsu really thought she pulled off the heist of the century by stealing a noble life, only to realize she traded functional lungs for terminal asthma while Reirin treated high treason and prison labor like an all-inclusive fitness retreat.

But it is something for what they both needed in a way. And theyre stronger for it.

慧月が玲琳の体っていう牢獄に自分から押し入ったのに、その間玲琳は畑で人生を謳歌してたってのが今でも笑える。即座にバチが当たった感がすごい

i still find it funny how Keigetsu essentially broke into the prison that is Reirin's body, while Reirin was living it up on the farm; there's something so instant karma about that

力が戻ったら慧月はすぐ入れ替わりを解くだろうと思ってたけど、そのあと何度も入れ替わったり戻ったりするとは思わなかった。たぶん玲琳が押し切ったんだろうな。慧月は知らないうちに玲琳の中の悪女を目覚めさせちゃったんだよ。
かわいそうに、尭明は「ふつつかな」殿下だな。何度会っても慧月と玲琳が入れ替わってるのに気づけない。莉莉なんか一発で見抜くのに。「慧月」が妙に手のかかる感じだったら、それは中身が玲琳だよ。
そもそも全部の発端を作った金麗雅は最悪の女だわ。今のところ逃げ切ってるけど、いつか報いを受けてほしい。雅媚にも非はあるけど、麗雅の言葉にほだされたのは分かる。子を失ったばかりでまともな精神状態じゃなかったんだから。雅媚は絹秀が皇后に選ばれたことに嫉妬なんてしてなかったけど、たぶん麗雅のほうはしてたんだろうな。

どんでん返しとキャラの深みで、今期のトップクラスの一本だった。1話の時点では、玲琳が「悪女」慧月を倒して体を取り戻すまで、ひたすら惨めな目に遭い続ける1クールになると思ってた。ところが玲琳は（獅子の試練を除けば）惨めどころじゃなかったし、慧月も薄っぺらい悪女とは程遠かった。
ラストは玲琳の兄たちや庶民が出てきて、新章の仕込みっぽかった。おかげで2期に期待が持てる。早く正式発表が来てほしい。

I expected Keigetsu to cancel the body swap as soon as she had enough power, but I didn't expect for her to repeatedly do and undo it afterwards. Reirin probably strong-armed her into it. Keigetsu had unwittingly awakened the inner villainess in Reirin.

Poor Gyoumei's being an *inept* prince. Even after multiple encounters, he still couldn't tell when Keigetsu and Reirin swapped bodies, unlike Leelee who could spot it right away. If "Keigetsu"'s being especially troublesome, she must actually be Reirin.

Reiga's a bitch of the highest order for instigating the entire mess in the first place. So far she's got away with it but I do hope karma will get to her one day. While Gabi's not entirely blameless, it's understandable how she could fall for Reiga's words. She's not in the right state of mind, having just lost her child. While Gabi didn't harbour any jealousy over Kenshuu being picked as the Empress, chances are Reiga did.

This has been one of my top shows of this season, with the twists and character depths. From the first episode, I thought it'd be a full season of Reirin being in utter misery until she could defeat the "villainess" Keigetsu and reclaim her body. Turned out Reirin's anything but miserable (beyond the Lion trial) while Keigetsu's far from the one-dimensional villainess.

The ending scenes seemed to be a setup for a new arc, with the introduction of Reirin's brothers as well as the common citizen. That made me optimistic of the prospects of a second season. Hope we'll soon get an official announcement.

ふと思ったんだが、入れ替わりを繰り返すこと自体が、玲琳が健康な体を手に入れる道なのかもしれない。魂のほうに予防接種みたいな効果が付いて、本来の体にも少しずつ及んでいく、という。

Random thought: maybe it turns out them constantly swapping around would be how Reirin will eventually get a healthy body. Like her soul gets some kind of magic vaccine effect that'll gradually influence her real body to get healthier.

元の体に戻った玲琳、なぜか前より丈夫に見えたよな。それとも最終回だから調子を上げただけか。

Reirin in her own body does seem to be healthier for some reason or did they just accidentally buff her for the end of the anime?

侍女の話では、尭明は入れ替わりを二度見逃している。殿下が毎日二人を訪ねるわけではないから、入れ替わった日にたまたま来なかった、という意味だろう。玲琳の慧月の演技があれだけ下手で、しかも殿下が今は本気で探っていることを思えば、もう会っていないとは考えにくいが。

Leelee says Gyoumei missed the swap twice. Since the prince doesn't visit them both daily, I think she means that he didn't come on the days when they swapped. With how bad Reirin is at pretending to be Keigetsu and Gyoumei being on the hunt now, I would find it very hard to believe that he met them while swapped and just couldn't see through them.

全部の出来事を顔面に叩きつけられるまで、何も知らずに過ごしてたんだよ。「玲琳」が生きててくれて、慧月がどうにか自分の性格を抑えられてたのを、単にありがたく思ってただけなんじゃない？

Living in ignorance without really knowing until the full events smashed him in the face. Maybe just thankful "reirin" was still alive and Keigetsu just somehow able to rein in her own personality?

ちょっと少数派の意見かもしれないけど、皇后はやっぱりある程度は批判されるべきだと思う。友達を20年も苦しみと憎しみと惨めさの中に放っておいて、慰めに行かなかったのが大きな間違いだったんじゃないかと一度も考えなかったんだから。暗殺未遂と、女官二人がもう少しで殺されるところまで行って（襲撃の詳細が漏れてたらもっと死人が出てたかもしれない。殿下も言ってたけど、普通ならこれは朱家全体が死罪になる案件だ）、ようやく「親友のはずの相手が、お腹の子を亡くして独りで苦しんでるのを放っておいたのは、良くなかったかも」って認めたわけで。
もちろん皇后が死ぬべきとかそういう話じゃないし、本当に罰を受けるべきは全部を焚きつけたもう一人の妃のほうなんだけど……まあ、なんというか……皇后にもちょっとは文句を言わせてくれ。

I think this is a bit of an unpopular opinion but the Empress really does deserve some criticism for letting her friend suffer in her pain, hatred, and misery for 20 years never once considering if she'd made a horrible mistake by not going to comfort her. It seriously took an assassination attempt and the near murder of two court ladies (at least, could have been a lot more if the details around the attack got out. As the prince says, a move like this normally would have resulted in the death of the entire shu clan) for her to admit "Letting my supposed best friend suffer alone from the death of her unborn child maybe wasn't a good idea."

Obviously the empress doesn't deserve to die or anything like that, and the other consort who instigated everything is the one who really should suffer but... yea know... just a bit of criticism to the Empress.

You can blame that on the Kou clan's matyrdom complex. Reirin currently has a bit of it but its overshadowed more by her mortality issues.

玲琳みたいな『悪女』がいてよかった。登場人物が次々に彼女に落ちていく。有能で行動力のあるバカリーナだ。
