The general geology and cartography is more than enough to let her play with rocks. It actually takes work to convince him the actual paleontology is something of value.

Rufus is dancing on the edge of being too overprotective, which will hopefully get toned down a bit now that they're at the academy as of the end of the episode.
So far the other losing heroines are all nice girls and I'd be a bit surprised if that doesn't remain true for the rest of them. The real question is going to be the otome protagonist girl, the whole mind controlling cookies thing make sure seem pretty sus.

My thoughts were very much along the same line as yours, this episode. "Uncle Johnny" is for sure the king, and I'm betting the "protagonist" turns out to be the actual evil villainess, and the "villainesses" are good people.
I'm getting really strong Observation Log vibes from this story so far, but excited to see if it goes in a different direction or not.

Honestly makes sense why the Heroine would need brainwashing cookies when the other established pairs so far are rock-solid (minus Erin seemingly more into Pia than her own fiance) that she would need to straight up control them to make them reject and exile the women they really love.

「弱気MAX」の部分は前回はあんまり出てこなかったけど、今回のじろじろ見られる場面は全部かなり居心地悪かった

The "super timid" aspect of the series didn't really come into play in the last episode, but all the staring this episode was pretty uncomfortable.

（本人の独占欲は別にしても）ルーファスがピアを貴族の注目から遠ざけておきたかった理由が、ちょっと分かる気がする

You can kind of see a little of why Rufus wanted to keep her out of the noble spotlight (aside from his own possessiveness).

あと、このジャンルのお約束からして、乙女ゲームの主人公も転生者だってほうに100ネットドル賭ける！！xD

Rufus is sweet and all as a fiance, however .. he's a tick too possessive for my taste. Disallowing others to even talk to Pia directly goes to far. No wonder she had no friends up to that event (wtf).
That blonde elder gentlemen must be a pretty high ranking noble if Rufus has to talk to his father to do something about him. I'd say it even might be the King, given his looks and that of the princes, but ... running around THAT casually at an official event seems like a huge no-go ...
Also, as per this sub-genres tropes: 100 internet bucks the otome games MC is also reincarnated!! xD

Rufus also has already had to stop kidnapping attempts on Pia for years by this point too. As in the last episode he mentioned fighting off people trying to take her and that was when they were really young

And these maps are very important and an advantage in the case of a war. Both defensiv and offensive.

そう、1話で彼女が描いた地図をすごく大ごとにして、宰相の執務室の机の真後ろ、ど真ん中に額に入れて飾ってたのが本当によかった。今でこそ誰もがスマホで衛星データを見られるから細かい地図なんて当たり前だけど、あの時代だと詳しい地元の地図なんて、存在しないとまでは言わなくてもすごく珍しくて、戦術的にとんでもなく役に立つものだったはず

Yeah, I really appreciated in episode 1 that they made such a big deal about the map she drew to the point that they framed it front and center right behind the Prime Ministers desk in his office. Because while we take detailed maps for granted nowadays as everyone has access to satellite data on their phones, back in those days detailed local maps would be incredibly rare if not non existent and an immense tactical boon

もう一つ大事なのは、ルーファスが宰相の息子だってこと。だから貴族の一部（国内も国外も）がどれだけひどいか、本当によく分かってる
ピアの変わったところが、マジキャロの筋を「予言」できることだけだったとしても、たぶん同じくらい過保護だったと思う。ピアの革新的な古生物学・地質学・地図作りの腕もはっきり評価してるけど、最初に惹かれたのは彼女の素直なところだった（つまり、ルーファス本人よりも、力のあるスタン家に取り入ることに興味がある策略家じゃなかったってこと）

Another important point is that Rufus is son of the Prime Minister and as such actually knows how truly awful some of the nobility (both domestic and international) can be.
I believe that he most likely would've been just as protective towards Pia even if the only unusual thing about her was "prophetic" knowledge of Magi-Caro's plot. While he also clearly values Pia's innovative paleontology / geology / cartography skills, he was initially drawn to her earnest demeanor (i.e. not being a schemer who was more interested in ingratiating herself with the powerful Stan family than Rufus himself).

I do agree that Rufus is too overprotective. However, we also do see last episode that there have been multiple kidnapping attempts against Pia, so his overprotectiveness isn't exactly out of nowhere I suppose

Get that it’s common but again, to that level is a bit much. Like you can see in the other comments, it’s one thing to have him be a bit protective over her, another to be domineering and not want her to talk to anybody. Especially because it seemed out of character for him. That being said I get that they’re presenting it as him wanting to show everyone they’re inseparable, just think it could’ve been done a better way.

I think it’s a bit more complicated then that, there is obviously that jealousness factor but there’s also a level of protection as he understands she has game breaking knowledge that could upend society. He eased up on Erin when she was just falling for Pia as a person after all.

Came to Reddit today to see if others had similar reactions to mine. I know it's a trope, but it curtails Pia's development as a character if she can't speak with others and form her own connections. Maybe Rufus will turn out to be a bad guy in the end! lol Probably not. His type of character is a romance trope. I just don't find it attractive at all. IRL his behavior is such a red flag.

Um yeah, that’s called dysfunction. I’m a woman and can promise it’s not an emotionally healthy woman’s fantasy to make up scenarios and have her partner go throwing fists or to be a rude person to others and nice to some. She needs to grow up if that’s how she behaved but normal women don’t find that attractive in men and shouldn’t act that way themselves.

I'm fairly certain the main heroine is no good. Because she wins over the love interests not through charm and mutual attraction, but instead by feeding them magic love cookies. They're basically being roofied. From an outside perspective in the original game the main heroine is an evil witch who takes over the Kingdoms power structures through brain washing. A single woman who makes all the sons and heirs to the most powerful people in the Kingdom become utterly devoted to her through feeding them love potion space cakes is a threat to national security

That should genuinely be the perspective of everyone in every single otome game. One woman being capable of seducing that many men would be considered dangerous on a national level. And they probably execute her ASAP… or just quietly send assassins

I don't even know the meaning of the word Villainess anymore since in Anime it seems to mean "very sweet woman tangentially related to the bigger plot".

I forgot the male love interest is last name Stan. He's part of a family of super fans, poor guy.
Ignoring Rufus's advice to stay quiet. Instantly talking about her fossil and giving her name. He's over protective but my gut says he's not wrong.
Overall I really like this show so far, very simple, cute, and soothing. Curious how that changes once we hit the otome plot.

Damn, Rufus was so overprotective of Pia. I can understand it because Pia is such a lovely girl, but I don't think it's wise to limit her social life so much, even if she doesn't mind.
After all, Pia is going to become the wife of the future prime minister. At least Rufus didn't stop her from becoming friends with Erin, who clearly took a liking to her immediately.
Overall, a nice second episode, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one, as Pia and the others' life at the academy will finally begin.

Rufus just seems like a highly irritating, overprotective, controlling bf. I would actually prefer if Pia is proven right with the heroine so that she gains the freedom to explore her interests in a different country.
On another note, it's blatantly obvious that Uncle Johnny must be the king given that he just roams around the palace in casual clothes and has the same appearance as the princes.

It's definitely not the best behavior in public but he is genuinely devoted/loving to Pia, especially when it comes to making sure she can continue her interests.
Even the bet is hinged on her still being allowed to use his domain to hunt for fossils even if he (forcibly) betrays her.

Looking at how the heroine is presented in the OP it seems like she’s gonna be the show’s antagonist, but part of me also hopes it’s a false flag.

Normally super possessive characters are total jerks or creeps, but I kind of find Rufus’ passiveness of Pia kind of…cute? Like he doesn’t want anyone else realizing how charming and amazing and cute she is because he wants to hog all that for himself lol.

All of that is true and also most likely the Rufus' primary motivation, but it also should be noted that he's the son of the Prime Minister. If for whatever reason his engagement with Pia fails, he'll once again be the target of schemes from nobles and their daughters trying to gain political power by marrying into the Stan family.
Episode 1 clearly established how sick and tired Rufus was with that sort of BS before his initial engagement meeting with Pia, so it makes sense that he'd do everything he can to keep safe the one young woman who isn't at all like that.

Like I get people not like Rufus's being very overprotective, but do some of you not remember that he has been thwarting kidnapping attempts on her for years at this point? That and her knowledge is incredibly valuable, so much so that it makes her a much larger target then she already is. Like sure, he may have gone too far on occasion, but I think it because he is trying to make it clear that she is not to be taken advantaged of or hurt. And he likely knows just how bad some nobles can be.

It’s completely fair to categorize Pia as a strategic asset, given the universe is more mundane than the usual fantasy world and she’s a modern scientist being isekai’d here.

That was the least subtle attempt at hiding Uncle Johnny's true identity lol. It's so obvious he's the king. Anyhow, just how bad was the original game? Did they have so little budget that they didn't bother making sprites for the losing heroines? They didn't even have personalities!
No wonder why the story just worked with magic cookies for the capture targets. Magi-Caro doesn't look like it even had besides that.

It's quite interesting to see how possessive Rufus is in this show. While we haven't really seen much reason to be because of the original game until the mindcontrol heroine shows up.
It's clear people are gunning for Pia because of her knowledge and she's already in danger, which is a refreshing take as it's well earned then and not because she's the MC. I wouldn't be surprised if Pia worries that anything bad happening is because of the game story, instead of nobles and kingdoms trying to kidnap her for her knowledge.

I really don't like Rufus being so possessive, and performative at the end there.
Something about it rubs me the wrong way, especially being hostile towards his so called friends just for talking to Pia. I guess it's supposed to be his game self showing.

この世界は、よくある異世界の世界より現実寄りなんだと思う。今のところ、作中で魔法とかそういう話をしてる人すら見てない

I think this universe is more mundane than your average isekai universe. So far, I haven't even heard anyone in-show discuss magic or anything like that.
I should raise a few points in the spoiler corner that might help with that.

漫画だと、ピアは「妻教育」を受けたってあるから、将来の宰相の妻として、ちゃんと（自分らしさを失わずに）ステップアップできるといいな

I totally get the “super timid” part but this episode made me want to pull my hair out. I know it’s a super common trope but I’d give anything for a female protagonist that can hold a conversation and can navigate the very real politics of the life they’re living.
The manga mentions that Pia underwent “wife lessons” so as the future prime minister’s partner, I hope she can actually step it up (without completely losing herself)
