I don't know what's the psychology behind this but I still find Yani attractive. I hate smokers with my life, she probably hasn't taken a single bath since she moved out of home. Her breath won't only be f*****g disgusting because of the cigars but she's a beastfolk and animals have even more disgusting breath. And yet I still totally would this f*****g chimney. I wouldn't in a million years fall in love with someone so gross and disgusting but my lower head wants to feel the warm of her bushy catussy anyways.

このアニメ、話が進むごとにどんどんイカれていくのが面白い。
冒頭の公園のシーン、「不審者」の通報で駆けつけた警官に、まったく別の理由——「公園での喫煙」（日本ではたいてい自治体の条例で禁止されている）——で怒られるヤニねこが可笑しかった。
カンサイのつまらなさっぷりには笑うしかなかった。関西の人にはたまにああいうタイプが本当にいるんだよな（笑）
カンサイが町内放送でヤニねこのおならを流したところは、腹を抱えて笑った。
そして今度は「酒好き」のキャラ！ヤニねこの部屋と比べて、彼女の部屋がやけに片付いているのが印象的だった。
「酒の味なんてどうでもいい」と言いながら、4リットルのペットボトル入りウイスキー（日本では酒屋やスーパーで普通に売っている）を水とガムシロップで割って飲むのには笑った。4リットルのペットボトルでウイスキーを飲むのは、日本では「大酒飲み」だけでなく「アルコール依存症」の人にもよくある話だと聞いたことがある。
後でチューブを使って焼酎を飲みながら寝ていたのを見るに、彼女は後者なんだろうな。

It's funny how this anime gets crazier and crazier with every episode.

In the opening scene at the park, it was funny to see yanineko getting scolded by the police officers(who had been dispatched because of a “suspicious person”) for a completely different reason: “smoking in the park” (which is generally prohibited in Japan by municipal ordinances).

I couldn't help but laugh at how incredibly boring the Kansai is. We Japanese do come across people like this every now and then among folks from the Kansai region, lol.

I laughed so hard I held my stomach at the scene where Kansai broadcast Yanineko’s fart over the town’s PA system.

And now we have a character who “loves alcohol"! It was striking to see how clean her room was compared to yanineko's.

I had to laugh when she said, “I don’t care what the alcohol tastes like,” and then proceeded to mix whiskey from a 4-liter plastic bottle (which is commonly sold at liquor stores and supermarkets in Japan) with water and sugar syrup to drink it. I’ve heard that drinking whiskey from a 4-liter plastic bottle is common not only among “heavy drinkers” in Japan but also among people with “alcoholism.”

Considering that she was later sleeping while drinking shochu using a tube, she was probably the latter.

「ツイン・ピークス」って、日本の映画好きのあいだでは有名な作品なの？　元ネタに使われていてびっくりした。

Is "Twin Peaks" a well known show to movie nerds in Japan? I was surprised to see it referenced.

専門家じゃないけど、日本発の作品にはツイン・ピークスの影響を受けたものや直接の引用がけっこうある。ソウルイーターやペルソナのあの部屋、サイレントヒルのシリーズ、デッドリープレミアニションなんて要するにツイン・ピークスのファンゲームみたいなものだし。だから文化のなかでそれなりの位置を占めてるんだと思う。

I'm not an expert, but I do know there is a lot of twin peaks inspired media and/or direct references coming out of Japan. E.g., the rooms in Soul Eater and Persona, the silent hill series, deadly premonition is essentially just a twin peaks fan game. So I think it has a significant place in the cultural consciousness.

カンサイが「獣人向けにタバコの銘柄を揃えてる」ってさらっと言っていたジョーク、あれを見ると、企業がわざと彼女たちの弱点を狙って金を搾り取っていて、その結果として依存の罠にはまる割合が高くなってるんじゃないか、と思えてくる。
ニャガミハラが獣人のための特区みたいな場所らしい、というヒントが散りばめられていて（背景のあの巨大な猫耳タワーもそう）、設定そのものに興味が出てきた。
ねこ娘たちが、より動物的な本能のせいで特定の行動に走りやすい「下層の市民」として描かれている、という面白い比喩が育ちつつある気がする。何を言いたいのかはまだはっきりしないけど、依存性のある物質、資本主義、SNS、あと……本能を乗っ取る漫才、そういう社会の毒に適応できない人たちについての批評なのかもしれない。

anyways, i think there's an interesting metaphor developing for the catgirls being some sort of underclass of citizen that's prone to certain behaviors because of their more animalistic instincts; i'm not sure what the implication here is exactly, but it could commentary about some people who are maladapted to corrupting touch of society in the form of addictive substances, capitalism, social media, and, uh, manzai comedy that has hijacked their instincts

だいぶ出遅れたコメントだけど、今追いかけて見てる。獣人向けにタバコを揃える話、タバコ業界が「アフリカ系アメリカ人はメンソールを吸う」というイメージを作り上げた件を思い出した。実際ある程度は定着してしまった（世間が思うほどではないし、他の人種でも吸う人はいくらでもいるけど）。アル・シャープトンみたいな人まで、メンソール禁止はアフリカ系アメリカ人への攻撃だと言って反対運動をしていた。フレーバー付きタバコをなくすのは、人が喫煙に入りやすくなるのを防ぐためなのにね。

Little late for a comment but catching up to this, the thing with stocking up cigarettes to appeal to beastfolk reminds me of how the cigarette industry engineered the idea of african-americans smoking menthol cigarettes, to the point where it actually somewhat took (though probably less than what people imagine and there's plenty of other ethnicities that smoke them too). Even someone like Al Sharpton was crusading against banning menthols, claiming it was an attack on african-americans, even though the idea behind removing flavored cigarettes is to make it harder for people to ease into smoking.

カオルコの売りは「何にも依存していない」ことで、ただちょっと頑張りすぎる漫才師志望だってこと。正直いくつかは笑ったよ、特にツイン・ピークスのネタ。ヤニ子は客層が違うってだけだろうね。
酒飲みが出てくるんじゃないかと思ってた！赤毛の子はのんびりした酒好きで、ヤニ子はタダ酒にありつけるから一緒にいる、と。あのチューブを出したときは正直ヒヤッとした。変な飲み方をするのかと思ったら、寝転んだまま飲みたいだけだった（笑）
カオルコ、それはさすがにひどい思いつきだよ。町内放送の車でおならをぶちまけた後どうなったのか、見られなかったのが残念。
そしてラストのヤニ子が挟まるシーン！あの列に並んでた男たち、順番待ちしてたってこと？！　何なんだ……

今日のアイキャッチ、ヤニ子とヤク子がタバコで火事を起こすやつが最高だった。
ヤニ子は本当に大家さんに対してひどい。今回もバカなことをやって危うく殺しかけたわけだし。
まあ、知らないうちにダッチワイフの音で彼女を怖がらせたぶん、ちょっとは仕返しできたわけだが（笑）
カオルコはイモコを除けばいちばんまともそうだ。欠点といえばジョークが面白くないことくらい。とはいえ、メガホンでヤニ子におならをさせたのには笑った。
そしてもちろんアルコール依存のアルコもいる。ただ彼女はのんびりしてるから、他の面々ほどひどくは見えない。

Today's eyecatches were hilarious as Yaniko and Yakuko caused a fire with a cigarette.

Yaniko is really such a d**k towards the landlord, to think that one of her stupid actions almost killed the poor guy in this episode.

Though he had a little revenge when he unknowingly scared her with those noises from using a s*x doll, hahaha!

Kaoruko seems to be the most normal, aside from Imoko, since her only fault is that she tells unfunny jokes. Although she made me laugh when she made Yaniko fart through a megaphone.

And of course there's an alcoholic here, Aruko, though she's pretty chill, so she doesn't seem as bad as most of the cast.

前回の、ヤク子が薬物のリハビリの後に社会復帰できなかった件への言及が意図的なのかどうか分からなかったけど、今回で100パーセント意図的だと確信した。子どもとサッカーをしているだけの無害なことをしていても世間はどう見るか、という描写がまた出てきたから。
あと正直まいった。彼女の部屋ばかり見慣れていたせいで、大家さんの部屋がきれいすぎて逆に違和感があった。
タバコは今すぐやめる。……なんてね（笑）
「薬物のフリ」のシーンはショッキングだったけど、わざわざ回復体位まで見せていたのは偉い。この知識ひとつで救えたはずの命が、これまでどれだけあったか。

あの子たちが付けたあだ名、いいセンスしてる（笑）　マイクにおならをしようとして、そのまま漏らすんじゃないかと思ってた。まさかこんなので笑わされるとは。こんなアニメを作ったこと自体が信じられないけど、作ってくれてよかった。毎話これだけ笑ったのは『あそびあそばせ』以来だ。

Those kids have a good nickname for her lol. I was expecting her to poo her pants when trying to fart in the mic. Can't believe it had me laughing. I can't believe they made this show but glad they did gives me good laughs. Haven't laughed so much on each episode since Asobe Asobase.

うーん、今回も前回も、自分には1話ほどではなかった。1話の、最後にヤニ子が癌で死ぬのを恐れる姿に本気で気の毒になる、あの重たい筋が好きだったんだ。
でもここ2話はほとんどギャグと騒動で、悪くはないし刺さるジョークもあったけど、1話で自分に効いたものとは違う。ちょっと下品なだけのコメディになっていて、喫煙をシラフで見つめる話にコメディを挟んだもの、ではなくなってる。作画だけでも見続けるけど、期待値は下げておく。

Idk, neither this nor last weeks episode lived up to the first one for me. I liked the really depressing throughline of the first episode, where you really feel bad for Yani Neko and her fear of dying from cancer by the end

But I felt like these last 2 episodes where mostly about telling jokes and getting into wacky hijinks, which werent all bad, some of the jokes did land, but it wasnt what really worked for me in the premiere, its just a slightly more crass comedy series and not really a sober look at smoking interspursed with comedy, I'll keep watching for the animation alone but I'll keep my expectations more in check

まったく同感。1話が大好きで、あのリアルさがよかった。2話もけっこう好きだったけど（あの性加害のシーンだけは今のところ一番苦手だった）、3話は……そこまでハマらなかった。まあ自分がファンサービス系をあまり好きじゃないせいかもしれない。下品な笑いと、深くて重い現実の話が組み合わさっているのが好きで、だから『ボージャック』が好きなんだ。主要キャラ（少なくともEDで見た面々）が出そろった今、1話のトーンに戻ってくれることを願ってる。

i totally agree with you, i loved the first episode and how real a lot of it felt but i did still really like the second episode (except for the SA scene, that was probably my least favorite scene so far) but i just watched the third episode and... i wasn't crazy about it... but maybe that's just because i'm not crazy about fanservice, i like raunchy humor paired with deep and depressing real topics, that's why i love bojack, but i really hope it goes back to the tone of the first episode now that most of the main characters (or at least all the ones i saw in the outro) are introduced

1話のNetflixの英語吹き替えを見てみた。声優陣が期待どおりにイカれてる。

I checked out the Netflix English Dub of Ep1. The VAs are appropriately unhinged.

台本の草稿を渡されたときの声優さんの顔を想像してみてよ。「何これ」って顔してたに違いない😂

エリカ・リンドベックっぽいと言われてるね。2014年から声優をやっている人で、『ヘルヴァ・ボス』のルーナや『スマイリング・フレンズ』のキャラをやってる。だから面白がりつつ、プロとしてこなしたんじゃないかな。

個人的にいちばん嫌な気分になったのは、カンサイが鼻フックを洗わずに使ったところ。

Somehow the part that got the most uneasy feeling for me was Kansai using the nose hook without washing it.

OPに出てくる、頭に黒いぶちのある金髪のねこ娘、3話を見てから気づいたけどスパイダーマン3の「ブリー・マグワイア」のダンスをしてる。あとラストがやばい、あの男たち順番待ちで並んでたんだぞ😭💀

タバコを吸うねこが大家さんの顔におならをした時点で、この作品はついに自分の中のねこ娘を台無しにした。たった3話で。

And with smoking cat farting in the landlords face the show has finally ruined cat girls for me. It only took 3 episodes.

単に疲れてて楽しめなかっただけかもしれないけど、3話は最初の2話ほどよくなかった。
好きだった（「好き」と言っていいのか分からないけど）のは、のんびり飲んでいる場面から回復体位の場面への落差。あれは救いがなくて、最初の2話の空気に近かった。
大家さんがヤニ子に庭の草むしりをさせるところもよかった。作業自体が面白いからじゃなくて、お菓子を買ってきてやったり、家賃の滞納を簡単な用事ひとつで見逃してやったりと、彼女につけ込もうとしない、実は悪い人じゃないと分かるから。
ただ自分はおならやうんこのギャグをあまり面白いと思えないので、放送車のシーンも大家さんの顔におならをするシーンも、笑えなかったし驚きもしなかった。ただ、世間が期待しているとおりの幼稚な作品になっただけに感じた。
カンサイがどんどん必死にヤニ子を笑わせようとするのも、何か見落としてなければ、ただ脈絡がなくて躁的すぎるように思えた。

カンサイについてのポイントは、他の作品なら彼女が「息抜き役」になるはずだ、ということ。重い話が続くときにジョークを飛ばして空気を軽くする、あの役どころ。コメディやギャグの裏に「惨めさと絶望」が漂っているこの作品には、ぴったりのはずなんだ。
ところが……カンサイの笑いのセンスは壊滅的（笑）　少なくとも作中では、誰ひとり彼女のジョークで笑わないほどつまらない扱いになっている。だから、女の子たちがとんでもないことをやらかしたり、本当にまずいことが起きたり（酔ったアルコが自分の吐いたもので窒息しかけるとか）したときの「救い」にならない。しかも他の場面ではキャラたちはちゃんと笑うんだよ。誰も堅物ではない。だからこそ、友達グループの「お笑い担当」であるはずの子に限ってそうなるのが、見ている側には面白く、カンサイには残酷なんだ。

The point about Kansai is that, in any other show, she would be the one taking the role of the "breather character": that one character that brings up the fun and joy by cracking jokes and making the overall tone more "carefree", especially when there's heavy narrative in hand. This would fit pretty well with Chainsmoker Cat since, despite the comedy and gags, there's this underlying sense of "misery and despair" surrounding these characters.

The thing is though... Kansai's sense of humor sucks lol. Or at least, in-universe it's seen and considered so bad that none of the characters laugh to her jokes, and therefore it never gives that "sense of relief" that may come from when the girls ultimately do unhinged s**t or even bad stuff happens (like Aruko almost choking to her own puke while drunk). Her position is even more ironic (in a grotesque way) because, in many other instances, the characters ACTUALLY laugh: none of them are really stern or stoic individuals. So the fact that this happens specifically with the one girl that should be "the jokester" of the friend group is funny (to us viewers) and painful (to Kansai).

今回ヤニ子の見た目をやたら良く描いてるのが、逆にちょっと気に食わない。せめて一人くらいヤニでボロボロになったのを出してくれ。依存の醜さをあれだけ克明に描くのに、依存してる本人の見た目への影響は描かないのかよ

The fact that this ep actually flexes yani's looks almost disgusts me. I want at least one shriveled up junkie 😤 no way they can show in graphic detail the ugliness of addiction but not the effects on the addict's physical appearance

でもそこがいいんだよ。実際、若いうちの依存症って見た目は普通に良かったりする。十年二十年すれば確実に来るけど、要するに「悪習と一緒にまったり」みたいな場面が、見た目ほど格好良くも魅力的でもないってことなんだ。二十代で魅力的なままなのはむしろ賛成で、そのほうが生活のひどさが際立つ。

This has its own appeal because many young addicts are in fact hot. Sure it will catch up with them in a decade or two but the point is the whole "vibin with your vice" scene isn't as glamorous or attractive as it appears. I'm okay with them being attractive 20-somethings because it shows how disgusting their lives are.
