I honestly probably wouldn't care much in her place either.
My logic would be, it's already passed, it was beyond my control, and the previous personality was pretty much fated to die anyway, no matter what. What's the point in worrying about an accident? I mean, I would be awkward around the family for some time, maybe, but in the end I'd try to live and probably won't pay it that much attention.

I still don't understand how she went from a perfectly calm sitting position in a perfectly stable chair to said chair falling backward like it's back legs just broke. That made no sense at all unless she outright kicked the table full force. Even still It's unlikely she has the actual physical strength to budge a solid chair.

ナイツ＆マジックみたいな「記憶が戻った」系だと思ってたら、「本物のマインの魂は去った」ってはっきりやってきたな。

I assumed it was just a "recovered memory" thing like with Knights and Magic, but then they straight up went with "The real Myne's soul left."

つまり作者が言ってるのは、魂は時空を超えて別の宇宙にも同時に存在してて、普通は自分の宇宙の中で転生するけど、魂を食う病気がマインの魂を壊したから、別の宇宙の魂がすぐ入り込める空きができた、ってことか。

ルッツがマインを運びながら泣き崩れる場面は効いた。マインのことが大好きで、何だってしてやりたいのに、自分じゃどうにもできないって分かってるんだよな。
それにベンノが「この病気はいずれマインを殺す」って言い切ったも同然だったし、ここから先はどんどん悲しくなっていきそうな気がする

That scene where Lutz broke down as he was carrying Myne hit hard, it's obvious that he loves her and he's willing to move heaven and earth for her but he knows he can't do it himself.
And from the way that Benno pretty much said that the disease will eventually kill Myne, I have a feeling that the series will only get sadder from here on

didnt he also mention to Otto something about magic items or mana stones that could essentially cure the disease? It was all the way back when it was first mentioned. I doubt that the series is gonna end with her actually dying

I mean we all already know that the solution is to drain her mana, and that, for example, trombe seeds can accomplish that. All that's needed is for the characters themselves to figure this out.

それだけじゃなく、マインがトロンベのことを考えたり口にしたりするたび（ちょっと触れただけでも）魔力が暴れてた。マインの魔力か体が、トロンベが有効な逃げ道だと気づいて、それを探そうと暴れてるんじゃないかな（残念ながら本人はまだ気づいてないけど）。
しかもこれなら上質な紙も作れて、（トロンベをちゃんと管理できれば）土地も荒らさずに済む。人がトロンベを積極的に狩るようになれば、上質な木材も手に入る。種で身食いを抑えて、木で上質な紙を作れば、マインはもっと紙を手に入れられる。一石三鳥だ。
若いトロンベに懸賞金を掛ければ、危ないけど儲かる仕事になって、よく生える土地では新しい産業ができる。ただ市場があふれるから本当の理由は言えないだろうし、貴族は、危険だけど（比較的）安い身食いの対策が誰でも手に入るのは嫌がるだろうね。
問題は、儲けのためにトロンベをわざと育てる人が出ないよう、「若い」トロンベじゃないと役に立たないと知らせる必要があること。もちろんトロンベは軽く扱えるものじゃない（大量発生には騎士が要る）けど、そんな危険なものに使い道を見つけられたら大きい。種を見つけて身食いの人に送れば、トロンベが広がるのも防げて、種と木をもっと管理して使えるようになる

Not only that the magic flared up whenever she thought about or mentioned Trombe (even in passing). i think her magic/body realized that trombe is a effective path out and flares up to try and find it (unfortunately she hasnt figured it out yet). This would also allows her to make high quality paper and not risk the local environment (if they are good at keeping the trombe in check). So trombe kills 3 birds with one stone since now people would more actively hunt it which means that suppliers will have more high quality wood to work with. Main can use the seeds to keep the devouring in check. Using the wood to create high quality paper means that main can obtain more high quality paper.

Putting a bounty on young trombe would make it a risky but profitable venture and allow for places where its commonly found to make a whole new industry. This would flood the market so they cant explicitly tell people the true reasons and the nobles wouldnt want a dangerous, cheap (relatively so) solution to the devouring available to everyone.

The only issue is that they will need to inform that only \*young\* trombe is good enough to prevent people from letting trombe to grow in order to make a large profit. Of course trombe is not something to fool around with lightly (since knights are required to handle a trombe infestation) but finding a use for something so dangerous would go a long way. This also can be used to prevent new growths since finding the seeds and sending them to those with the devouring would mitigate the spread of trombe and allow for more controlled uses of the seeds and wood.

ちょうど原作小説の2巻がここで終わってるんだよね…作者がとんでもない引きをやらかして、続きを知るまで何か月も待たされた

This is actually exactly where LN Vol 2 ended...author pulled a MASSIVE cliffhanger and you had to wait months to see what happened.

1か月待つより1週間待つ方がいつだってマシだ。そんなに長く待つのは耐えられそうにない

I'll take waiting a week over waiting a month on any day of the week. I don't think I could stand waiting that long.

ベンノの説得でルッツがマインへの接し方を前みたいに戻せたのはよかった。

Damn, the devouring has finally become unmanageable. Thankfully Benno had already made a backup plan, I guess it is finally time for that priest to make his entrance.
I'm glad that Benno convinced Lutz to act as he did before when interacting with Maine.

Trombe branches I assume... and paper made from them. Candles with herbs. Pancakes & buttered steamed potatoes. Not sure what that white blob is to the upper left of the pancakes. Hair ornament. I assume the jar under the ornament is shampoo. And there's an "unknown" object to the left of the shampoo. Guess we'll find out what it is next week.

4 is likely soap, seeing as it's the same color and in close proximity to the candles. I'm guessing 7 is probably another food item, probably a form of cake.

エンディング後の場面で、ベンノはギルド長と交渉して、使い捨ての魔術具を小金貨2枚で手に入れたって言ってた。だから神官は出てこないと思う。ギルド長の代わりにそれを使う役で出てくるなら別だけど

In the post credits scene, Benno said he negotiated with the guildmaster for a one use magic item for just 2 gold. So the priest probably won´t show up unless he´s the guy who uses it on the guildmaster´s behalf.

このアニメが好きなのは、主人公が別の世界から来たことがちゃんと大事な要素になってるところ。マインはそのせいで何度も「自分は何者なのか」って悩んでる。
よくある異世界ものの主人公は「死んだけど、巨乳のエルフがいる世界で第二の人生だ！」って感じなのに、マインは「私はもう死んでるはずなのに、この世界で生きてていいの？」って感じなんだよ

I like this anime because the MC coming from another world is an important part. Main keeps having existential crises because of it.
The average isekai MC is like "I died, but I got a second life in a world with hot big-boobed elves!" Main is like "I should be dead already, should I really be living in this world?"

Yes, realistic isekai. It's realistic in the sense that the protagonist's reactions and views after being transported to another world are realistic. Obviously it doesn't mean that it's realistic to be transported to another world.

それな。異世界ものの主人公って、最初の1〜2話を過ぎると前世のことがどうでもよくなるのが嫌なんだよ。
無職転生も似たことをやってる。主人公が前世でやったことが、特に心が一番弱ってるときに何度も蒸し返される

This. I hate how the past never seem to matter to isekai mcs except for the first one or two chapters.

Mushoku Tensei does something similar. What the mc did in the past would be constantly brought up especially when he is the most emotionally vulnerable.

Damn that ending rocked me...I was still emotionally vulnerable from Lutz's tears but seeing Main just get hit by the devouring that much...damn.

正直、今期のベスト候補ってよく言われてるバビロンとBEASTARSは見てない（どっちも「あとで見る」リストには入ってるから！）。でも本好きは今期見てる他のどのアニメよりずば抜けてるから、もっと話題になってないのが信じられない

I admittedly am not watching Babylon or Beastars, which are the two shows people talk about as potential AOTS from this season (they're both on my PTW I swear), but Bookworm is so above any other show I'm watching this season that it blows my mind more people aren't talking about how great this show is.

本好きは1話がかなり不安定だったから、今期のアニメを片っ端から試してた人はそこで切ったんだと思う。調子が出てきたのは3話あたりから。それに異世界ものとひとくくりにされてるのも、本当は気に入りそうな人を遠ざけてそう。実際は「少年向け・願望充足系の異世界もの」（多すぎる）じゃなくて、「少女向けの異世界もの」（今はちょっと少なめ）の方なのに

Bookworm had a really shaky first episode that probably put out anyone who was just trying every show this season. This really didn't hit its stride until about episode three. It's also being grouped with the isekai, which probably herds away a lot of people who would theoretically like it despite it falling into the 'shoujo isekai' (currently a bit undersaturated) camp rather than the 'shounen/wish fulfillment isekai' (far too many) camp.

If you count Vinland as last season then it's just between this show and Hoshiai no Sora for me

Best boy breaking down hit me right in the feels. He wants to save Main but knows he's powerless to do so.
And holy f**k that ending. Although knowing that this is all told through a flashback kinda lessens the blow when you know Main will survive.

You know, I thought the same thing. But thinking on this further, I think it was intentionally done this way. The tone of this anime is maximum wholesomeness. So by telling the viewer Main survives, we don't feel so devastated at the possibility of Main not making it.

Well in theory anyway, could be that the author just wanted to tell a wholesome tale, thus no danger spoiling the fact that she lives. But then got the urge to make it more interesting and added a life threatening illness.

自分はあの冒頭の場面がありがたいな。まったりしたアニメが好きだから、最後はちゃんと大丈夫になるって分かってるのは嬉しい。
マインとベンノの二人きりの話し合いのときも、ベンノがちょっと締め上げてくるんじゃないかと心配したけど、このアニメは苦しみを最大にする話じゃないって確信してるから、ベンノは自分の利益と一緒にマインのこともちゃんと考えてくれてると信じてた

So by telling the viewer Main survives, we don't feel so devastated at the possibility of Main not making it.
I personally appreciate that beginning scene because I enjoy comfy shows and it's nice to know that things will eventually turn out okay.
Like, during the private meeting with Main and Benno, I was kind of worried that Benno would start turning the screws a bit, but I'm convinced that this show isn't about maximizing suffering and I had faith that he was looking out for her interests as well as his own.

マインが手仕事で世界を席巻していくのが好き。作れるものはどれも高度な知識や特殊な技術がいるわけじゃなくて、普通の人が知っててもおかしくない、少なくとも足りないところを埋められるくらいのものばかり。紙と本作りだけは例外だけど、それも司書の勉強をしてたって説明がつく

I love how Myne takes the world by storm with handicrafts. None of the stuff she knows how to make requires advanced knowledge or exotic skills, its perfectly reasonable for a normal person to know this stuff, or at least enough to fill in the gaps. Making paper and books are the odd ones out, and even then explainable with her librarian education.

Web版の話数と、今期のアニメの話数と、今期の終わりそうなところからざっと計算すると、原作はアニメ150話ぶんくらい（プラスマイナス1割）あると思う。でも本当にそこまでやったらめちゃくちゃ驚く。嬉しいけど、驚く

Doing a bit of math on the number of WN chapters there are, the number of anime episodes they're gonna show this season and the expected end point for this season, I'd estimate that there's enough source material to create about 150 anime episodes, give or take 10%. But I'd be extremely surprised if they actually ran the anime that long. Pleased, but surprised.

It didn't dawn on me until this episode but the way they paired Trombe discussion with her flair ups made me realize it's life absorption powers are likely going to be a cheap way to treat the devouring.
I love how Myne has sort of quit the pretense of hiding her knowledge.
"I have freaky otherworldly knowledge. Deal with it!"

Yeah, well there´s no satisfying explanation for them, even in a magical world unless there are spirit or demon possessions and AFAICT that´s not part of their magic system. "I was someone from a different world in the past life" sounds pretty out there, at least for westerners and I think eastern religions who are looking for people with past reincarnations don´t go looking for visitors from another world.

While watching this episode it suddenly hit me that I am basically watching Breaking Bad the Isekai
Just that instead of cooking illegal meth she is revolutionizing the market with her ideas
Also that slow mo chair drop was right out of Inception
So now Myne is going to be dependent on these cheap 2 small gold per use chemo items
Hopefully she can keep up her medical bills with her products

I like that comparison; it's pretty funny to compare the two like that. I feel like Bookworm is a lot less depressing than Breaking Bad though.

god damn this anime is so wholesome. Although Main's current condition doesn't hit me quite as hard, seeing as we've already seen her be okay in the first episode.

I mean there’s really no way this show could have convinced me they were gonna kill off the one important character anyway. Main is the bookworm, this show would just be about poor people in a fantasy world without her.

そういうメタな見方もあるけどさ。昏睡とか眠ったような状態になって、魔法があるから意思疎通はできる、なんて形もありえた。あるいは最終回で死んで、元のマインが戻ってくるとか（可能性は低いけど、まだありうるのかな？この世界の魔法のルールを全部知ってるわけじゃないし）。あるいは最終回で死んで、マインの知識による改良がたくさん世界に残る、とか。
言いたいのは、想像力があればこういう話にはいつだって別の結末がありうるってこと。でも回想で語ることで、（ありそうな）暗い結末は確実に消してるよね

sure there's the 4th wall approach to this. But she could have ended up in some sort of comma/stasis and allowed to communicate because magic is a thing. Or she could have died at the end of the series and let the original Main come back (However unlikely, I guess this might still be possible? We don't know all the rules of this world's magic). Or could have died at the end of the series, leaving this world with many improvements due to her knowledge.

What I'm trying to say is, with imagination, there's always another ending in these stories. But they certainly took out any (likely) dark endings by telling the story in a flashback.

マインがこれ以上ないくらい見え見えの手で、ルッツの兄たちを手のひらで転がしてたのが最高。演技がド下手なのがまたいい。でもそれ以上に、ルッツの家族が彼のやろうとしてることを認めてない／分かってないこと、そしてこれが自分のやりたいことだと家族に納得させるまで、どれだけ険しい道が待ってるかが伝わってきた。
ベンノが頭をなでる場面もよかった。マインから見れば緊張する大事な場面なんだけど、ベンノから見たら、怖い大人に必死で立ち向かう小さな女の子にしか見えないんだろうな。それにベンノは冷たい商人の顔をしてるけど、明らかにマインのことをすごく気にかけてる。あれだけ長く面倒を見てきて、目の前で何度も倒れられたら誰だってそうなるよ

God, I love the way Myne wraps Lutz' brothers around her pinky finger with the most obvious play anyone can imagine. The fact that she's terrible at acting makes it even better. More than that, though, it shows how much Lutz' family disapproves of/ doesn't understand what he's doing, and how hard of a road he will have ahead of him to convince his family that this is what he wants to do.

The Benno headpat scene was great, too. Such an intense and pivotal scene from Myne's perspective, but from Benno's it's sort of hard not to look at Myne as a little girl trying her hardest to stand up to a scary adult. And Benno, despite his heartless merchant exterior, clearly cares about Myne a lot, as anyone would after having guided he along for so long and seen her collapse in front of him multiple times.

Definitely. She's getting some kind of reaction to the trombes, both this time and last time. I strongly suspect (hope) that they will do something crazy with those veggies!

We did see the thing with the chamber pot was in the anime. Not criticizing, I know how it's sometimes hard to remember which element you remember from which source.

On the chamber pot out the window. Of course they did that when the only other option is carrying the pot down the stairs to dump it in the open sewer. I suppose some places might have a hatch like Castle Towers but your still throwing s**t from on high.

Yeah - Dr. Stone is clearly more shounen-oriented, while this show to me feels more seinen/josei-esque even if it's not labeled as such.

これはベンノがマインに教えようとしてる人生の教訓みたいなものだと思う。いつも多めにお金を要求しないと、命を救ってくれるもの（一時的にでも）を買えなくなるぞ、ってこと。前の回みたいに、いい人ぶって値引きして、高くじゃなく安く交渉するのを繰り返さないようにね

I feel like this is sort of a life lesson Benno is trying to teach her. You should always be asking for more money otherwise you can't afford this stuff that can save your life(temporarily). So she doesn't keep trying to do what she did last episode discounting to be nice and bargaining lower rather then higher.

いいぞちびキャラのマイン、『リーディング・レインボー』病に誰がボスか思い知らせてやれ！まあ…見たところ苦しい戦いになりそうだけど。
そりゃ血で封じる魔法の契約なら、破ったときのリスクに「命の危険」があるに決まってる。マイン、血で封じるって時点でそうなると気づくべきだったし、最初に契約したときにリスクを聞いておくべきだったよ。いわゆる小さい字の注意書きを読め、ってやつ。でも商売の才覚を身につけてる途中なら、そういうミスもあるよね。その才覚は金貨をめぐる値段交渉で見せてたし、何より「搾取は家庭から始まる」って金儲けの鉄則を実践してた。家族を（ついでにルッツの家族まで）中銅貨の値段で髪飾りの商売に引き込んでたからね。
バターはあるんだよな。あとはこの世界で見つかる樹液でメープルシロップっぽいものを作れば、マインは新しい商売、パンケーキ屋を始められる（この世界でパンケーキを何て呼んでたかは忘れたけど）。
最後に、今度はルッツがちびキャラの次回予告をやってたのが面白かった。マインがあの予告コーナーを取られたのも、大した損じゃないよね

Oh of course the magic contract sealed in blood has "threatening of life" as a potential risk for breach of contract. Myne, you really should've figured that was gonna be the case what with the whole sealing in blood thing and/or should've asked what the potential risks of it was when you first made that contract. Read the fine print as it were. But a slip up like that can happen when one is earning their business lobes. But she demonstrated her lobes with her haggling over the gold not to mention her flexing of a certain rule of acquisition: Exploitation begins at home; getting her family (and hell even Lutz's family too) all in on her hair ornament business for the price of medium coppers.

Well they have butter. Just that and some maple syrup made out of whatever tree sap they can find in this world and Myne can start up a new business, a Pancake House. (or whatever it was she was calling pancakes here in this world)

Lastly, now Lutz gets a cartoony preview bit. Funny. And I can't say Myne loosing that preview time was a huge loss.

AIOはオールインワンの略で、シャンプーとコンディショナーを合わせた商品のことを指すよくある英語だよ。リンシャンは「リンス・シャンプー」の略だけど、この場合の「リンス」は、英語でいうコンディショナーのことを日本語でそう呼んでるんだ

AIO is short for All-In-One, a common English term for a product combining shampoo and conditioner. Rinsham is an abbreviation for "Rinse and Shampoo" but in this case "rinse" is the Japanese term for what we call Conditioner.

言葉がなじんできたら、ちゃんと字幕にもリンシャンって書いてほしいな。そう言ってるのは簡単に聞き取れるし、「リンス・シャンプー」と結びつけるのもそこまで難しくない。でもリンシャンって、日本人がシャンプーのことを普通にそう呼んでるんじゃなかったっけ？このアニメ以外でも、それか似た言葉を聞いた覚えがある。もしそうなら、英語圏の視聴者がその結びつきを分かって当然とは言えないから、翻訳者を責めるのも酷だと思う

I do hope that they write rinsham in the actual subtitles as the term becomes more commonplace, since it's both easy to hear that that's what they're saying and not too difficult to connect it to "rinse shampoo", but isn't rinsham literally what Japanese people call shampoo? I swear I've heard it or a similar term used outside of this show. If that's the case, you can't really blame the translators for not taking that connection for granted in the eyes of the English-speaking viewer.

つまり「シンプル・シャンプー」で、シンプルなオールインワンのシャンプーを略す言い方ってことね。それがあの会話のポイントだったし。翻訳としてはベストじゃないかもしれないけど、筋は通ってる

So SIMple SHAMpoo, just a way to make the simple-all-in-one shampoo abbreviated, which was the point of the conversation. Maybe not the best on the TL's part but it does make sense.
