Yamada is SO stacked

>>1

Nice lungs!

>>1

Why is her eye doing that?

>get scared smoking might give him lung cancer
>nah bro you're fine
oh ok then better just keep chugging those smokes then bro

>>4

The whole chapter in the manga felt like a PSA about the risks of tobacco. Maybe the editorial department received some complaints and felt they needed to include something like this, who knows.

Wait Yamada worked 8 YEARS in the same supermarket? Holy f**k, way to waste your youth. No wonder she's clinging to Sasaki

>>6

Better than 8 years a NEET

>>7

T-True. As it happens I've actually been a NEET for 8 years hahaha.....

>>7

I've been shot by a stray.

>>6

There are a couple of cashiers at the supermarket I go to who have been working there since I was a kid.

>>10

Thank god I'm a NEET and not working at a register for decades because I would lose my mind

>>10

If I go to my hometown's biggest grocery store, one lady that has worked there since I remember will greet me and everyone (most store workers don't do passing greetings in general and I don't expect them to)

>>6

It's Supermarket, Japan

>>6

>Cashier
>Affords rent, cigarettes, and can regularly go out with friends for food
The bigger question is why she never just learned to drive.

>>14

What friends?
The only people we've seen her talking to are her coworkers and she keeps her distances all the time.

Did we seriously need this? Like they couldn't just meet over smoking and bond, he had to be some super savior from her past or it isn't true love or what

>>16

Romcom authors are always tempted to indulge in these tropes. "They met before, but they don't remember ", but in this case I think was also the author wanting to make it so that it wasn't only Sasaki that was faceblind.

>>16

Isn’t he supposed to be a younger Sakaki?

>>18

Yeah, 37 yo old man.

>>16

Is it even him? He actually had balls back then instead of the coward he is now if it is him

>>20

This is the people who will call Sasaki stupid because he didn't realize Yamada and the cashier is the same person.

I've expanded my Sasakimaxxing operation to several other businesses. It struck me as unrealistic to imagine I can oneitis on the one cashier, I should have a few hooks in the water. I am now exclusively queueing for cute cashiers at the gas station, the grocery store, and surprisingly, the comic book store I go by. I am standing out a bit from the rest of the line I think, but no events yet.

>>22

I think I've only had one experience with a cashier showing interest. It was a new hire, who was shadowing a regular to learn the ropes, and she was giving me so much eye contact that it was almost uncomfortable, while smiling. Never saw her again though. I'd probably have more luck if I wasn't one of those types of customers that say nothing beyond "hello", "thanks", "have a good day".

>>23

New cashiers tend to give more eye contacts than they need to. She wasn't interested in you, just nervous all around and you probably made it worse

>>22 >>23

>cashiers over the nation harassed by NEETs after YaniSuu airs
Terrifying

>>22

I almost got this to work once but got cockblocked by another cashier and never saw her again. She must have been in training or something since I only saw her for a few weeks

What a build

>>27

Thick in all the right places!

Have you ever had to deal with a s****y customer, /a/? It really f*****g sucks being in that position completely unable to fight back or do anything. Some people truly merely exist to make others as miserable as them.

>>29

>completely unable to fight back or do anything
respect yourself more

>>30

I don't want to go to jail.

>>30

I don't want to lose my job.

>>29

I was a bartender for 6 years in my 20s and dealt with this all the time. More than a few times my manager had to call a taxi to take me home because I'd been threatened by someone I'd cut off and he didn't feel comfortable making me walk home.
Only lost my temper with one customer who really had it out for this young girl who worked with us, 20 years old, sweetest thing ever but just couldn't stand up for herself at all. He reached over the bar and grabbed her by the tie and I hooked him in the jaw. Big disciplinary over it.

>>33

I asked and I cared. Thanks for sharing.

>>33

When I ran a resturaunt if anyone mistreated my staff I gave management permission to refuse them service and to ask them to leave. We had enough business that we would easily replace any table lost and I would prefer to serve customers that respect my staff and don't kill the morale of the team.

>>29

I've been in the same exact situation as Yamada, but the person yelling at me was a granny and the person who chewed her out was a lady in her 30s or 40s, I was 17.

Honestly, it was funny as s**t to me, it was f*****g neighborhood minimart so there was no reason for that old cunt to be mad at me at all, she wanted a cigarette brand the store didn't sold anymore, when I told her that she went on a schizo rant, I just looked at her baffled holding my laughter until the other woman stepped in.

God damn this was 12 years ago, I'm getting old.

>>29

I'm in the meeting department of a huge hotel, I deal with bad customers everyday, but they are companies, not individuals, so they are more reasonable.

>>32

If your job doesn't allow you to stand up for yourself in the face of assholes then it's a terrible job.

>>38

have you ever worked a single day in your life?

>>39

Yes. You make it sound like that kind of mistreatment is normal. It is not

>>38

Any job is a terrible job.

I could not for the life of me imagine why anyone would want to drink non-alcoholic beer.

>>42

you'll understand when you're a recovering alcoholic

>>42

I give up alcohol for Lent each year and usually I'll drink non-alcoholic beer if I get invited out with friends or family. A bartender actually told me it's not unheard of to get requests for no-alcohol style spirits, particularly from women who are pregnant but haven't told anyone yet.

is this s**t caught up to the mini episodes yet

>>45

Yes. Next week is brand new content.

>>45

yes we better see your ass next week

>>45

???
It's all new content to me as an anime only

age gap this age gap that, there any anime with a similarly sized age gap but the woman is the older one? Asking for a friend

>>49

I spent years seeking out older-woman romance manga and I think I lost my list at some point. S**t.

My cute retired OL NEET wife Mori...

>>49

You Like Me, Not My Daughter?!

so you needed 6 episodes to realize a relationship of people with a 20 years age gap is iffy?

Please be bait.

So young Sasaki didn't actually defend Tayama... he was just annoyed hearing the angry customer, was stressed out about work, and just wanted to get through the checkout line faster...

>>55

He says a little later on that he was ALSO annoyed that the cashier who's always good to him was being targeted like that

>>55

The man was probably dead tired.
I wonder if this post was LLM-generated. Probably not.
Depressing.

>show makes me want to smoke
>go to store to buy tabacco
>50 dollarydoos for 20 cigarettes
>turn 360 degrees and walk out the store

What is going on in this prison colony?

>>58

You're f*****g telling me? I went to supa market to buy tomatoes. One f*****g tomatoe was 4 dollars... granted it was a BIKKU tomatoe but still. F**k off that s**t should've been like 2 dollars tops. Everything is getting priced jacked. F*****g modern day marauders running the world today

>>58

Just buy black market smokes for 3 bucks instead.

>>29

I've used to work in a drug store. Dealing with druggies trying to scam you, old people who will murder you over a penny and actual crazy people. No cute girl encounters sadly, but middle aged guys buying Viagra is the most chill and pleasant group of customers we've had. Whole lot of Sasakis

I WONDER WHO THIS GUY COULD BE. HMMM.

>>62

It's Kisasa-san.

This is a scene of a millennial getting angry at a zoomer. What are you talking about?

The guy in line isn't a zoomer though. Yamada is a zoomer

The only issue I can see is boredom or the lack of carreer prospects, but then again I don't give a f**k about my career, as long as I earn enough to survive without wasting too much time or sanity working, that's good for me.

>>66

The problem is all the jobs that pay just barely enough to survive are also degrading s**t jobs that kill you inside

>>67

That's not true, but then again maybe I got lucky (i'm the anon who works in a hotel)

>>67

My wagie job is fine, i could see myself working there for a long time.

What? Can't I speak my mind all of a sudden?

>>70

Usually people aren't that worked up

>>71

That's not an appropriate response; it's a commentary.

Tayama/Yamada is so cute and pretty. Too bad the smoking is going to make her looks take a nosedive by the time she hits her 30s.

Well now, lets not get rude. Legs.

>>74

For me its her eyes
Really expressive

>>75

You are a man of taste

>>74

the mangaka loves hips and thighs don't they

Most men look like s**t all their life, never do anything to change it, are fat and bald at 32

>>78

We're talking about women though

>>79

Sure, I'm extending the same point, women and men who stay fit and active, watch their diets, put in the work and the discipline age well and can even smoke a few without effect on their appearance, those who don't, are ugly, lazy sacks of s**t
And that's that really

What do you think the majority of people with higher education do?

>>81

Work jobs they hate.
Only they get more money for it.

>>82

>Only they get more money for it.
It depends on what they study.
Where I live, many uni graduates do low-level jobs because they can't find anything else and their degree is useless
I am one of them
. And those are the lucky ones, the others are unemployed

>>82

I grew up with a guy who always asked me for money because he was poor when we were kids now he has a nice car and all of that and makes at least twice as much as i do although im well off as well and the last time we met we were at another guys place and we brought drinks and he was like hey do you know i make twice as much as you do and i was like yeah that's right now that you mentioned it and i still brought a bottle thrice the price of that sewage you gurgle. Figure it out

Well, at least now we know that Yamada is just as dense as Sasaki.

8 years is a LONG time for a 16 year-old, when moving on to becoming a 24-year-old. Can you imagine how many customers have come and gone in those intervening years? She has a memory of the incident -- but not of the precise details of her "savior". I can imagine that today's Sasaki has evoked a sense of vague deja vu -- but I cannot fault her for not making a complete connection between her youthful memories and her present experience.

Man I am so torn on that.
Its nice she basically fell again for him and this is not a highschool crush situation.
But also I doubt he changed and already liked her as a cashier beforehand.
Plus at what point did she then realize he always goes to the yamada register, did he take a break going to that shop?

The store got rebranded at some point and he'd stopped going there for a while

Iirc didnt he move to a different city for work for that 8 years? Coulda sworn it's mentioned somewhere that he went to that supermarket when it was whatever the original branding was, then had to move cities, during which time the supermarket rebranded in the interim period before he moved back. Could be misremembering specifics, but there was def an extended time he didn't go to that store.

Think you might be right. Think it was partially work related but mainly they removed the smoking area. Lol

We'll skip by Yamada's six years in a store mascot costume too /s

Id personally just prefer if this was the set for her type, not a straight one-to-one

Hah. That's what I was thinking, she doesn't get to ever call him Sa Slow Ki ever again!
(Or she should henceforth be named Yamadense!)

※ Sa-slow-ki(佐々木=鈍い)に対して、Yamadense(山田+dense=鈍い)と付けている

I like Yamadense

Yamadumb sounds like the original name but is slightly more insulting, Yamadense strikes a nice balance

Here I was hoping we'd be moving out of this mistaken identity Yamada/Tayama stuff soon, little did I know they'd be doubling down on the mistaken identity.

Every time the colleague brings up details about his marriage I'm just amazed that for once there's a portrayal of an actually normal and happy married couple in working age. Guess the world is finally healing from the boomer-era "ball and chain" mindset.

His wife is helping him get through working at a black company!

Also getting him to gain weight on healthy food.
She is one hell of a wife!

They'll split duties; she eats the ramen, he gets extra broth

the world is finally healing from the boomer-era "ball and chain" mindset.
Was it really that prevalent outside the US? I can think of a few happily married old couples in the Soviet media, at the very least.

This is just speculation on my part but maybe the shift in perception is in part the result of growing social alienation and loneliness. In the boomer era it was a lot easier to socialize and form relationships but there was also far more social pressure to get married and such because of it. Whereas the generalized struggle nowadays has made being single more normalized and made actual relationships feel more like an achievement than something you just do regardless of feelings.

Also, divorce was much harder to obtain back then, for mostly the same social pressure reasons

I suppose it's only fair that both leads apparently have face blindness. Side note: Shouldn't your doctor ALWAYS tell you that you should quit smoking lol.

As a doctor watching this show, I've been ignoring the health benefits for the sake of the plot😂

God that sort of customer from Yamada’s past is the worst. Always wanted to throw them with the haviest item in arm’s reach when I worked at a register.

People like that are why I believe everyone should be required to work 6 months at a customer facing job (in person specifically no hiding behind a phone), if they had to be on the receiving end of that s**t I suspect a fair few people wouldn't dish it so often.

Having done several years of both, while I don't wholly disagree, I can say that phone isn't much better. I'd even say it can be worse is some aspects. The distance between the customer and service worker that the phone grants can make people a lot less inclined to hold back.

I’ve never heard/seen my dad get short with anyone in person, but make him suffer through customer service on a phone and have them ask for personally identifying info to confirm his ID and he’ll get ornery real friggin fast.

>> everyone should be required to work 6 months at a customer facing job
DTotally agree. I started doing this when I was Yamada's age (when SHE started) and did it for 3 years -- and then again for a couple of years in grad school. This was all many decades ago -- but I have always remember THAT side of interactions and try to act accordingly.

Yeah... the fun ones who just nitpick anything...
Fun one was the one who moaned about having to pay for bags and not having any that "didn't advertise the store"

The guy kind of felt like the evil double of Sasaki (shorter of course).
Sasaki comes into the store because he finds interacting with Yamada calming after a hard day at work.
The asshole customer clearly is coming in to vent and take his frustrations out on Yamada, because she is a captive audience and is "weaker" than him. You don't come in and yell at the same cashier multiple times unless you are secretly enjoying it.

I work in management in retail and I cannot imagine not immediately kicking someone behaving like that out. Like you just don't want people like that in your store at all.

It's also kinda funny how the culture difference between America and Japan is obvious in that scene. In that scene, all the other customers are minding their business and Sasaki is the weird one for speaking out.
In America, nearly every time a customer pulls that crap on the minimum wage cashier, people tell them to shut the f**k up and get out of line. Seen is many-a-time, and even done so myself lmao

原文は「I've been shot by a stray」。
