If it wasn't Shadow Gale Melville would be the next suspect. Altering the visual so it had the "equal" number when it's actually the wrong number can be explained with her power.

ロボのトンデモ展開はさておき、今回のデスゲームのルールは意外でもなんでもなかった。タイムアタックみたいな新ルールを、いきなり足してくるのは読めてたしな。
この手の作品は、新しいひねりやルールで緊張感を作るもんなんだよ。ただ、この子たちが巻き込まれて、命がかかってるのはキツい。

The mech nonsense aside, this episode and its death game rules didn't surprise me. I did anticipate they would add new rules like a time attack even out of nowhere.

These type of shows tends to build suspense with new twists and rules. It just sucks these girls are part of it and their lives on the line.

悪いけど、能力にも犯人にもそこまで興味が持てない。ほとんど掘り下げられてない子たちの話だからな。第1期とほぼ同じ問題で、たぶん原作の小説じゃなくてアニメ化のせいだと思う。とにかく、俺は降りる。

Sorry but I don't care enough for their abilities or the culprits because it involves the girls with barely any characterization. Pretty much the same stuff as the first season, and is most likely the fault of the adaptation, not the original novels. Anyway, I'm out.

ちなみに原作の小説だと、能力はプロローグより前からずっと明かされてた。秘密でも何でもなかったんだよな……
ただ、その「使い方」となると……
で、そう。チェルナーの本当の体は、ガチのネズミだ。
原作には、今のアニメみたいな便利なエンディングなんて無かったんだよな……ｗｗｗ
でも、ヒントはあちこちにある。やたら縄張り意識が強いとことか、考えが単純なとことか（動物の本能のしるし）。
まほいくでは、文字どおり誰でも何でも魔法少女になれる。第1期には現実では男の子のラ・ピュセルがいたし、今度は現実ではガチのネズミのチェルナーだ。年齢もそうで、スイムスイム（第1期）は幼稚園児だし、カラミティ・メアリ（第1期）は中年の大人の女性だ。

But the hints are everywhere with how much territorial she is and how simple minded she is (sign of an animalistic instinct).

In MahoIku, literally anyone/anything can become a Mahou Shoujo. In 1st season, we got La Pucelle who's actually a boy IRL, now we got Cherna who's an actual mouse IRL. There's also the case with age as well, SwimSwim (for SE01) is a kindergartener, Calamity Mary (SE01) is a grown up middle-aged lady, etc.

メルヴィルのセリフは、普通に聞いたらガチで分かりにくいんだと思う。ただ、字幕が口ぐせをああいう訳し方してるせいで、俺でも普通に分かる相手の言葉を、ラピスが通訳してるのが笑える。

I'm sure Melville's dialogue is genuinely difficult to understand normally, i just think it's funny that with how the subs are translating her quirk that Lapis is interpreting for someone who I can understand just fine lol

このミステリーで怪しいのは、主要な4つの組のうち、いちばん視点が少ないのが＠娘々とのっこちゃんの組ってことだ。
それに、誰も自分の魔法について嘘をついてないなんて、信じられないね。

I find it suspicious in this mystery story, that of the four main teams, the one we have the least perspective on is Meow-Meow and Nokko. I also don’t trust that someone didn’t lie about their magic.

誰かが自分の能力を実際より狭く言ってたとする。そうなると、人の目をごまかせそうなのはこのへんだ。
メルヴィル。景色に溶け込む。仲間を殺しておいて仇を討ちたいふりをすれば、むしろ怪しまれにくくなる。筋も通る。
のっこちゃん。自分の感情を伝える。スイムスイム2号か？
あるいは、死んだと思われてるキャラが犯人って線もある。

With the assumption one of the characters lied about her power by describing its ability as more restricted than it actually is, then the ones who felt like they could dupe somebody's vision seem to be:
Melville - blends into the scenery. Killing an ally and acting like she wants revenge would actually make sense to seem less suspicious. Nokko-chan - communicates her emotions. Swim Swim 2.0? Alternatively, the culprit could be a character presumed dead.

キャンディが1個足りないなら、なんですぐ全員に端末を見せろって言わなかったんだ？キャンディは捨てられないって話だから、誰かが1個多く持ってるはずだろ。そいつが犯人とは限らないけどな。誰にも気づかれずに端末からキャンディを抜けるやつなら、別の誰かの端末に足すこともできるだろうし。それでも、大きな手がかりにはなる。

If one magical candy is missing why did they not immediately demanded everyone to show their devices ? It is said the candy cannot be thrown out so someone has to have an additional candy. Not saying the culprit has to be that person since if someone is capable of taking a candy from a device without anyone noticing they might as well added it to someone else but it is still a big start and clue

あいつらの作戦、そんなに良くなかったよな。最下位の同点が1組あれば誰も死なないのに、全員を死ぬかどうかの瀬戸際に立たせたんだから。4、5人が、信用できる誰かに自分からキャンディを渡すほうがずっと安全だった。5人がゼロなら、誰かが死ぬのは、その4人が組んで5人目を殺しにかかったときだけだろ。

Their plan wasn't that great. They only needed one tie for the lowest so that no one would die and instead they put every single person on a knife's edge of dying. It would have been much safer to have like 4-5 people volunteer to give their candy to someone they could trust. With 5 of them at zero the only way anyone would die is if 4 of them conspired to kill the 5th.

I mean everyone was right next to each when they laid out their phones, and we also know that the phones make noise when transfers take place. If any candies were actually moved from phone to phone, I think they would know, so I don't think that's what this is

それを納得させるのは難しいと思う。その数人に、とんでもないリスクを背負わせることになるし。全員でやろうって言うほうがずっと簡単なんだよ。誰がそんな大きなリスクを背負うか、話し合ってる時間も無かったしな。限られた時間の中では、あれが精一杯の作戦だった。

I feel like it'd be hard to convince them of that. It's asking those few to take a huge risk. It's much easier to ask everyone to do it, as they didn't have time to debate who would be the few taking such a massive risk.
I think their plan was as good as it could be for the time they had.

ディティックとプフレ、どっちも探偵役なのに、やり方が違うのがいい。ディティックはほとんどゲームの外で動いて、一つの相手や気になる点に絞って謎を解いていく。プフレは人の心を読んで、相手をミスリードしながら犯人を探す。だいたい自分がリーダーか、少なくとも力のある立場に収まって、そこから状況を操ろうとする。
ファルもかわいいんだよな。最初は、ファヴと瓜二つの電子妖精が出てきて、視聴者のトラウマがよみがえる。でも実は、かなりいい奴なんだ。持ち主の気まぐれに振り回されてるだけでさ。第1期で、ファヴがクラムベリーを自分好みの殺人鬼に仕込んだのとは真逆だよ。

I like how Detec and Pfle both fulfill the detective role, but the way they go about it is different. Detec does most of her work outside the game and focuses on a singular target or point of interest to clear things up. Pfle focuses on reading and misleading others to find the culprit. She generally plans to put herself in a leadership position, or at least one with power, and tries to control the situation from there.
Fal is also a cutie. At first the audience's PTSD kicks in over a cyberfairy that looks exactly like Fav, but he's actually a pretty good guy. He's just at the mercy of the whims of his owner. This is contrast to how in the first season, Fav groomed Cranberry into becoming the type of murderer he wanted.

原作の小説だと、プフレの魔法少女の姿が車椅子なのは、シャドウゲールのおじいさんから来てるんだよ。そのおじいさんも車椅子だったんだ。
変身してないときは、普通に歩ける。

In the books they mention that Pfle's magical girl form has a wheelchair due to inspiration from shadow gale's grandfather who also had a wheelchair, outside her magical girl form she can walk just fine lol

犯人はプフレに賭ける。嘘はついてるし、自分で仕切り役に収まって、みんなに信用されてる。
チェルナーを殺す動機もある。戦いで負かされてるからな。恨みかもしれないし、あんな強いやつを近くに置いておきたくなかっただけかもしれない。

My money is on Pfle being the murderer. She has lied, she puts herself in charge and people seem to trust her, she had a motive to kill Cherna who beat her in a fight (maybe a grudge, maybe she just didn't want someone around who's that powerful).

ただ、1期はデスゲームだったけど、今回は犯人当てだから、そこが難しい。
ほかのキャラは容疑者でいてもらわないといけない。だから、その子たちの視点にはあんまり深く入れないんだよな。

Unfortunately, that comes with the issue of making this one a whodunnit while the first season was a death game. You can't delve into the perspectives of the other characters too much due to them needing to be suspects.

いやもう、ゲームを仕切ってる運営の女の子にマジでイラつく。全部自分のせいじゃないみたいな顔してさ。自分が殺してるわけじゃないって理屈、イカれてるだろ。せめて自分がやってることくらい認めろよ。
今回はマスコットが悪役じゃないのが、ほんとにありがたい。前のシーズンと違うってのもあるし、この手の魔法少女アニメ全体で見てもそうなんだよな。結局魔法少女が死んじゃって、ファルがガチで動揺してたのがいい。抜け道を見つけたってホッとした直後だから、相当キツかったはずだ。
プフレがなんと言おうと、キャンディの件に運営が関わってないってのは疑わしい。ゲームを仕切ってる運営の女の子が信用できないんだよな。自分で1人死ぬように仕組んでおいて、本気で自分は殺してないって思い込めるくらい、イカれてるのかもしれない。それに、ファルならキャンディの数は分かるはずだろ？　だったら、誰かが死んだことにあんなに驚かないはずだ。
ってことは、キャンディの数は本当にそろってたのに、運営の女が結局ハメたんじゃないか？　だいたい、みんな堂々とキャンディの数を見せ合ってたんだぞ。誰にも気づかれずに数が変わるなんて、ありえないだろ。
あとハムスター、成仏しろよ。正直、いなくなって悲しくはない。助けになるより、足を引っぱるほうが多かったし。みんなの命を守るための協力すら嫌がってたし、マジで自分勝手だった。まあハムスターだから、分かるけど。それでもな。

Man, the girl in charge really annoys me, acting like she isn't the cause of all this. Her argument for not being the one murdering them is insane. She could at least own up to what she's doing to them.
I do really appreciate that the mascot is not the bad guy this time around. Both because it's different from last season, and in general when it comes to these type of magical girl anime. I like how genuinely upset Fal was that a magical girl still died. Must have felt awful after being relieved that they found the loophole in it.
I do have doubts on management not being responsible for the candy incident, despite what Pfle says. I don't trust the girl running the show. She could be delusional enough to believe she really didn't kill one of them there, despite having ensured one would die herself. And I feel like Fal would know what the candy values are, no? So they wouldn't be shocked like they were that someone still died.
So maybe the candies were even, and the management lady screwed them anyways? Hell, they were all showing their candy count plainly in the open. I don't see how the count could have changed without them knowing.
Also rip Hamster. I'm not really sad to see her go, though. She seemed like more of a liability than anything. She didn't even want to cooperate to save their lives, she's incredibly selfish. Which I get, she's a hamster. But still.

やっと無駄な死を避けられる抜け道を見つけた矢先に、ゲームを仕切ってる女の子にハメられて、チェルナーは死んじまった。このデスゲーム、どうやって抜け出すんだろうな。ディティック・ベルがピンクの髪の子を見つけられれば、止められるかもしれない。ファルは明らかに反対してるし、ファルが裏切って、女の子の誰かに本当のことを話せば、止めるチャンスはあるかもな。

Just when the girls finally found a loophole that could save them from an unnecessary death, they get f****d over by the girl in charge, and Cherno ends up dying. I do wonder how they'll even get out of this death game. Maybe if Detec Bell can find the pink-haired girl, she maybe could stop this. Fal is clearly against this, so maybe if he goes rogue and tells one of the girls what's really happening, they have a chance to stop it.

エンディングで、女の子全員の本当の姿が水に浮かんでて、死んだ魔法少女は水の中に沈んでるんだよ。
チェルナーの本当の姿、マジでハムスターだぞ。人間ですらない。こんなイカれた設定が、本編じゃ一言も触れられてないんだよ！　バックストーリーが出てこないのはさすがにひどい。そのぶん死が意外なものになるんだろうけど、思い入れを持ちにくい。

In the ED they have all the real forms of all the girls floating on water with the dead magical girls underwater.
Cherna's real form is a f*****g hamster. She's not a human at all and such a crazy detail goes unmentioned in the story! This is ridiculous we're not getting the backstories. I guess it makes the deaths more surprising but it's hard to care about them.

うん、第1期と比べると今回は物足りない。女の子たちのことがほとんど分からないんだよな。ちょこちょこ描かれるのはペチカとプフレと護くらいで、あとはディティック・ベルがかろうじて。デスゲームとしては悪くないけど、誰にもほとんど思い入れが持てなくて、「あ、この子死んだ」で終わっちゃう。

Yeah compared to first season this one lacking, as in we barely know anything about the girls, like only Pechka, Pfle, and Mamori gets few bits here and there, maybe Detec Bell. While its a fine death game but hardly care about anyone, its just oh "this one died" oh well.
