最近『restart』を読んだけど、すごく退屈だった。1作目みたいな名作では絶対ない。

I recently read Restart and it was really boring, definitely not kino like the first novel.

『restart』は名作だよ、ただ展開が遅いだけ。編のほとんどはサスペンスで、緊張感と謎を積み上げていく話なんだ。最後の幕でいきなり何もかもが全開になる。
続編だよ。ただキャストも話も全然別物だから、1期を見てなくても見られる。
RPGの中にいるって設定以外は、SAOとは全然似てないぞ。それにその設定を始めたのはSAOじゃないからな、新参。

Restart is KINO, just slow, most of the arc is about suspense and building tension and mystery, the last act is when s**t goes balls to the wall.
It's a sequel, although you don't really need to see the first season to watch this since it has a completely different cast and story

Magical girls get trapped in a virtual reality game, if you die in the game YOU DIE IN REAL LIFE! Also it's a bit like werewolf where there are killers in the group. So most of the magical girls have the objective of teaming up to clear the game in order to escape, but some have the objective of "killing the other players without being discovered" so there is a murder mystery / social deduction element to it that makes it more interesting that just a battle royal. この作品は戦闘向きの能力より、使い勝手のいい能力のほうが強いタイプなんだよ。魔法少女はみんな最初から怪力と速さを持ってるから、弱くて戦えないなんてことはない。むしろ戦闘向きの強い能力を持ったキャラほど、できることが限られてるから真っ先に退場する。逆に「誰とでも友達になれる」みたいなふわっとした能力の奴が、神レベルになったりするんだ。

This is the kinda series where utility > combat powers. Every magical girl has super strength and speed by default so it's not like she's weak and can't fight. Usually characters with strong combat abilities are the first to get taken out because they are limited in what they can do. Whereas bitches with vague powers like "I can make anyone my friend" end up being god tier.

凝った変身シーンがあった頃のなのはとは違うんだよ。

They managed more introductions in the first episode than expected, without the pacing feeling too bothersome. Hopefully bodes well for the season needing to adapt a bit more content than season 1 did.

There we go, PFLE and Clantail are now full fledged "anime characters" after this episode. Took 10 years, but we got there nonetheless!

I've been waiting for this one for so long!!! So excited it's finally here! I'll miss the stacked va cast from s1 but this isn't bad by any means either! By now I've forgotten a lot about the series so I'm really excited to revisit it like this.
I wonder if they'll make character songs again, I still listen to the S1 ones from time to time haha

作るって公式に発表されてるよ！今どきキャラソンはアニメであんまり作られないけど、プロデューサーが1期のキャラソンの大ファンで、restartでも同じことをやろうと押し通したんだって。
最近あった1話の先行上映のファンイベントで、キャラソンは全部で18曲あるって詳しく発表されてた。しかもEDを歌ってるDaisy×Daisyが、作詞、作曲、仮歌、ディレクション、編曲、ミックス、それにジャケットのイラストまで担当してる。本人がこの作品の大ファンらしい。すごすぎる。
追記：書き忘れてた。キャラソンは全部ソロ曲で（メインのプレイヤー16人＋ゲームマスターとスノーホワイトのおまけ2人）、それとは別にデュエット曲が3曲ある（こっちはDaisy×Daisyは関わってない）。
プフレのキャラソンは、彼女が出てた最近の舞台で使われてて、スノーホワイトのは次の舞台で流れる予定

They've confirmed they will! Even though character songs aren't common in anime anymore, the producer was such a big fan of the originals he pushed for the same with Restart.
There was a recent fan event/pre-airing of Episode 1 where they detailed that there would be 18 character songs total, for which DaisyxDaisy, the singer of the ED, is doing... the lyrics, composition, demo singing, direction, arrangement, mixing AND jacket art. She's apparently a massive fan of the series, its crazy.
Edit: Forgot to add, the character songs are all solos (main 16 player girls + [Extra two characters]The Game Master and Snow White) and there will be 3 different duo songs (for which DaisyxDaisy is not involved in).
Pfle's character song was used in a recent stage play which involved her, and [Extra character]Snow White's is going to play at the upcoming one.

10年ぶりにまたこのゲームが見られてうれしい。あとは1期と比べてどれくらいエグくなるか、楽しみに待つだけ。
おいしい料理を作れる魔法、それは絶対欲しい。作ったものを売れば、それなりに食っていけそう。
マジカルデイジーはかなり有能だな。このゲームの仕組みを知ってそうな侍の子とやり合って、ちゃんと持ちこたえてた。
この「音楽家」がちょっと心配。悪い魔法少女の一人かもしれない。
魔法少女がいっぱい出てきて、予想通り面白そうなキャラもいた。でも今のところほぼ全員いい人っぽい。まあ、生き残るためにキャンディーを奪い合うことになったらどうなるかは、前回で分かってるけど。
スノーホワイトが帰ってきた！これで悪い魔法少女が1人減ったな。
ファルと一緒にモニターを見てるあの子は完全に怪しい。絶対ろくなこと考えてない

Nice to see this game again after 10 years, now to wait and see how violent this is compared to the 1st season.
Magic that allows you to make delicious food, I would definitely like that, selling what you make could get you a decent living out of it.
Magical Daisy is quite competent, she managed to hold her own against Samurai girl who seems to know how this game works.
I am a little worried about this Musician, she might be one of the evil magical girls.
That was a lot of magical girls we got to see, some were interesting characters as expected, but it seems that pretty much all of them are good people, at least for now, we know what happens if they have to start fighting over candies to survive last time.
Snow White is back! That's 1 less evil girl to deal with.
That girl watching the monitors with Fal is totally sus, she definitely doesn't have any good intentions.

Can I watch this one if I didn't watch the og?

これは初代の直接の続編だけど、ある意味ソフトリブートみたいなものだから、一応この編だけでも見られるよ。ただ初代の出来事は話に出てくるし（そもそもこの編が起きる理由が初代の出来事だから）。
今回は登場人物が一新されてて、話のほとんどは今期で起きることが中心になる。それでも初代を先に見ておくのを強くおすすめする

This one is a direct sequel to the OG, but you technically can watch this arc stand alone since it's a soft reboot in a way. But the events from the OG are going to be referenced (plus the reason why this arc happens is because what happens in the OG).
There's a new cast of characters in this one and the majority of the story will be about whatever happens in this season. But I still highly recommend to watch the OG first.

Have you read the LN? Is this season going to be as violent as the first one? For most of the episode it felt like it was going to be a season without any death till the end (but I’m not even sure if Snow White actually killed that person yet)

It's mostly standalone, but there are parts of the plot that are reliant on you having watched the first.

まず、魔法少女たちのデザインと性格がすごく好き…今のところは。
それと、4歳から魔法少女をやってる子がいるのがすごく面白い。かなり長いこと魔法少女やってるっぽいし。
しかももうスノーホワイト！？！？うおおお。この先どうなるのか気になる。数週間前にr/animeの再視聴企画で1期を見ておいてよかった

Starting off, love the magical girl designs and their personalities....so far.
And very interesting with the one magical girl being one since she was age 4 and sounds like she's been one for quite a while.
And Snow White already?!?! DANGGG. Im curious where things are going. Glad i watched the first season with r/anime rewatch a couple weeks ago.

The mascot is like a child of Kyubey and Monokuma.

元祖のほう（1期のファヴのことね）は、たぶんモノクマからけっこう影響を受けてたと思う。でもキュゥべえはそうでもないんじゃないかな。性格も立ち位置も動機も見た目も全然似てないと思う

The original one (Fav, in season 1 I mean) was probably quite a bit inspired by Monokuma. I kind of doubt Kyuubey is for anything about him though, as they're very not alike in personality, alignment, motivation and look ImO.
