「博愛」の英訳が“Fraternity”なのはベストじゃないと思う。じゃあ何がいいかと言われると困るけど。意味としては「みんなを愛する人」に近い。彼は女性への接し方を語ってたし、“快楽の国”に派遣されるわけだし。日本語だと名前がどれももう少しおとぎ話っぽくて遊び心のある響きなんだけど、翻訳でその味が少し消えてる。
EDの映像って毎話変わるのかな。
今期一番楽しみにしてた作品で、J.C.STAFFってところに不安があった。作画的には問題なし。絵はかなりきれいだけど、動きは少しカクつく。演出についてはまだちょっと不安。言いたいことは山ほどあるけど、それは原作勢スレで書くことにする

If Marronnier looks familiar, that might be because it’s inspired by Olite and Carcassonne.
I don’t think “Fraternity” is best for 博愛 although I don’t know what would be a better word. The meaning is more like someone who loves everyone. He talked about how to treat women and is being sent to the country of pleasure. All of the names sound a little more whimsical and fairytale-like in Japanese and kind of lose their luster in translation.
I wonder if the ED visuals will change each episode.
This is the series I was most looking forward to this season and had reservations about JC Staff. Animation-wise, it was fine. The art is quite nice, thought the movement is a bit choppy. I’m not so confident about the direction. I have so many other thoughts, but they’ll have to go in the source corner.

たぶん一番近い英単語だと思う。今だと大学のフラタニティみたいな特定の団体を連想する人が多いのかもしれないけど、愛と連帯に基づく共同体の倫理的な理想っていう古い意味なら、かなりドンピシャだと思う

I mean, fraternity is literally one of the translations given by jisho.org.
I think it's probably the closest English word, but maybe people more closely associate it with specific organisations nowadays like college fraternity or such, but the older use as an ethical ideal of communal relations based on love and solidarity I think is pretty much spot on.

“Fraternity”は博愛の訳の一つではあるけど、この場合は連帯的な愛っていうより「万人への愛」なんだよ。うまく説明できるか分からないけど、他のキャラの名前の付け方を考えると、「博愛」っていう熟語よりも、その語源の「博く愛すること」から直接来てるのが分かる。
でも英語にピッタリの言葉は（たぶん）無いから、“fraternity”が見つかる中でベストってのはその通りかも。“Universal-Love”よりは名前として断然しっくりくるし

Fraternity is one definition for hakuai, but in this case, it’s not so much the solidarity type of love but universal love. I don’t know if I can explain it well, but if you consider the naming of the other characters, you can tell that it’s coming directly from its origin 博く愛すること, rather than the term 博愛.
But since there’s no real English equivalent (I think), you may be right that fraternity is the best that could be found. It definitely works better as a name than “Universal-Love.”

原作の評判は聞いてたけど、どういう作品か想像がつかなかった。テーマごとの国とか名前どおりの騎士たちとか、舞台はすごくおとぎ話っぽくて遊び心がある。でも1話のゆるい雰囲気のわりに、世界には掘り下げがいのある設定がありそうだし、OPはちょっと物悲しかった。どんな物語になるのか楽しみ！
伏線がたくさん張られてる感じで、1話にしてはちょっと詰め込みすぎだったかも。でも姫が兄弟の一人とお忍びで出かけるところはすごく楽しかったし、次回もその続きっぽくて嬉しい

I've heard good things about the manga, but I didn't know what to expect. The setting feels very fairytale-esque and whimsical, with the themed countries and aptly named knights. But despite the silly tone of first episode, the world seems to have deeper lore to discover and the OP felt a little melancholic. I'm curious to see what kind of story this ends up being!
It feels like a lot of plot threads are being set up and it was maybe a bit much for a first episode. But I really enjoyed the princess going an an undercover outing with one of the brothers, and I'm happy to see that the next episode will feature more of that.

Pretty intriguing premiere. And we have two ships sailing already. I'm more interested in the Ellie and Insomniac one but looks like princess and Chilly is the one that's getting more development next week.
I want to see more of the beast master too. An animal lover with a cute character design - sign me up!

マロニエの実ってあるの初めて知った。普通はセイヨウトチノキ（英語でホース・チェスナッツ）の実って呼ばれてる。リスは食べられるけど、人間は（馬も）食べられないらしい。
つまりバリバラは3年で双子、また双子、それから三つ子を産んだのか。頑丈すぎる。
大勢のキャラを出して一人一個ずつクセを付けるやり方は普段あんまり好きじゃないんだけど、もう何人かは掘り下げが始まってるから心配してないし、絵本っぽい雰囲気にも合ってる。そういう意味では『王様ランキング』をちょっと思い出す。
見落としがないか何回も見返したけど、見れば見るほどこの絵柄が好きになってくる

TIL that marronier nuts exist, more commonly called horse chestnuts. Squirrels can eat them, but not humans (or horses).
So, in three years Baribara had twins, then twins again, then triplets. She's made of stern stuff.
I generally dislike when a bunch of characters are introduced and each is given one quirk, but they've already started fleshing out some of them, so I'm not worried, and it does fit with the story-book aesthetic. In that way it reminds me a little bit of Ranking of Kings.
I've rewatched a lot of the episode to make sure I haven't missed anything, and the more I see it the more the style grows on me.

I enjoy the setting/atmosphere. It's got a very fairytale book esque quality to it. It's nice.
Those are some gnomey/dwarfy names. But the fact that I think I've memorized the names to the faces already in a single episode, woof. I gotta give credit that all the brothers having character designs unique enough from one another while also looking related enough.
Regarding names, even the kingdom names seemingly follow this heavyhanded method. It's at least clear and concise.
Eleonora is cute and spunky. Feels like she doesn't know about the deal yet. Interesting,
Baribara's lips, well she ain't got seven sons for nothing. Is the papa around? Passed? Or irrelevant?
It's only natural to notice those things or rather lack thereof, Chilly.
That's at least a thirty pound squirrel. That thing is hefty. It's too big to have the hands that it has. It's encroaching the 'mmmrrghghh' territory. You're on thin ice buddy.

姫のリスがあそこまでデカいとは思わなかった。あと、いきなりガチの創世神話から始まるとは。発想が面白い。
もうカップリングが2組あって、どっちも推せる。特にブルーノと寒がりや。エレオノーラと眠くないも期待できるけど、彼女側の視点をもっと見たい。
EDがリス視点なのは面白かった。リスと姫が毎回話に絡むわけじゃないだろうし、EDのアニメって毎話変わるのかな。
今期の隠れた名作になりそう。特にPrime Video配信だしね

I was not expecting the sheer size of the princess's squirrel. Or for this to start out with a straight up creation myth, how creative.
We already have two ships and I'm invested in both of them, particularly Bruno and Chilly. Eleonora and Insomnia are promising but I need to see more of it from her perspective.
The ED was interesting with it being from the squirrel's perspective, makes me wonder if every episode is going to have different animation for it since surely the squirrel and the princess aren't going to be relevant in every episode.
Feels like this is going to be a hidden gem of the season, especially with it being on Prime.

I have... no idea how I feel about this show so far, which is fascinating after an episode. Also the brothers art style makes me think of the old arcade game Dragon's Lair which is a massive blast from the past.

20年後くらいに、レトロアニメ紹介のアカウントがこの作品の場面写真でお祭り騒ぎしてると思う

Retro anime accounts are going to absolutely feast on stills from this show in about twenty years.

なぜかはよく分からないけど、すごく楽しくてまったりできた。キャラデザが好きだし、色使いもすごく良い。姫の性格がほんとに面白いし、エリーは注目しがいのあるキャラになりそう。兄弟たちの関係性も面白くてかわいいから楽しめそう。見てる間ずっとニヤニヤしてた。予備知識なしの1話でこうなるのはかなり珍しい。

I'm not exactly sure why but I found this very enjoyable and comfy. I like the character designs and the palette is very nice. The princess' personality is really fun and Elly seems like she'll be a great character to watch out for. The Brothers have an interesting and cute dynamic so that will be fun to watch. I found myself grinning a lot throughout the episode which is pretty rare for a blind 1st episode.
Looking forward to this, looks like 20 episodes too.

兄弟全員が出てくる、すごくきれいでパステル調の素敵なOP！
マロニエ王国へようこそ！女将軍バリバラ（渡辺明乃）と七人の息子たちの国！眠くない（高梨謙吾！）、暑がりや（石谷春貴！）、博愛（谷川誠！）、寒がりや（猪股慧士！）、剣自慢（村田太志！）、獣使い（水野清人！）、ハラペコ（川島零士）！名前は想像どおり、そのまんまの性格！
七人の兄弟は母親と、「お姫様を助ける」っていう共通の目標で結ばれてて、だからこそ他の七つの国へ大使として送り出すのにうってつけ。そして全員共通の何よりの元気の源は、自分の国のお姫様からのごあいさつ！
眠くないは城代の有能な補佐役（寝ないってのもたぶん役に立ってる）だけど、城代の娘エレオノーラとの結婚も決まってる。元気で腕の立つ女剣士なんだけど、彼にはまったく気づいてないか興味がなさそう。剣自慢とのほうが自然なペアになりそうな気がする。
ブリュンヒルデ姫（藤原夏海！）はいわゆるお姫様らしいことは得意じゃないけど、小さなリスちゃんのお世話と、そのための木の実拾いが大好き…で、それが寒がりやの護衛で森に出かけることにつながる。ただし“ブルーノ”に変装して（あの帽子、髪を隠すのにすごく頑張ってる）。寒がりやは王国一の景色を見せてあげて、二人は心からお互いとの時間を楽しんでる。
国の名前も兄弟の名前と同じくらいそのまんま。剣自慢と暑がりやは、向かう先の国が王国を狙ってるから一番大変な任務かもしれない。
EDはリスちゃんと、ブリュンヒルデとお付きの人たちが出てきてすごくかわいい

Welcome to the Marronier Kingdom! Home to the Lady General Baribara (Akeno Watanabe) and her seven sons! Insomniac (Kengo Takanashi!), Feverish (Haruki Ishiya!), Fraternity (Makoto Tanikawa!), Chilly (Satoshi Inomata!), Swordsman (Taishi Murata!), Beast-Tamer (Kiyoto Mizuno!), and Hungry (Reiji Kawashima)! And their names are as on-point as you'd think!
These seven brothers are united by their mother and their shared goal of saving a princess, and which makes them the best choices to be sent as envoys to the seven other nations. Though they all mutually enjoy the best pick-me-up which is a greeting from their own nations' princess!
Insomniac is an adept aide to the Castellan (and it probably helps that he doesn't sleep), but he's also set to wed Castellan's daughter Eleonora, an energetic and capable swordswoman. Though she doesn't seem aware or interested in him at all. I feel like she and Swordsman would make a more natural pair.
Princess Brunhild (Natsumi Fujiwara!) isn't a natural at the usual princes stuff, but she LOVES taking care of her little squirrel and picking up nuts for him...which leads to her going off into the forest escorted by Chilly, albeit she's disguised as "Bruno" (that hat is doing an amazing job covering up all that hair). Not only does Chilly give her the best view in the kingdom but the genuinely enjoy each others' company.
The nations are as aptly named as the brothers are, and Swordsman and Feverish might have the hardest missions what with their targets targeting the kingdom.
Ah, Chilly getting all hot and bothered by "Bruno" not realizing WHY he didn't feel Bruno's d**k.
The ED is really cute, featuring Little Squirel along with Brunhild and her retinue.

うーん、これは昔ながらのおとぎ話の冒険ものって感じ。特に絵柄がね。
すごく好きだし絶対見続ける。
姫のボーイッシュな男装のくだりがめちゃくちゃかわいかったし、兄弟全員が「お姫様を助けたい」っていうのも大好き

Uhhhh This feels like a classic fairy tale adventure type show especially with the artstyle,
I really like it and I'll definitely be watching this
The tomboy cross dressing stuff with the princess was pretty adorable and i also love how all the brothers want to save princesses too

絵本／おとぎ話っぽい絵柄が好き。最初は好きな声優が3人出てるって理由だけで見てみたんだ。
話を掴むにはもう1話必要な気がする

I like the picture book/fairy tale art style. Initially I only decided to check this out because there are 3 VAs I like in this show.
I feel like I need one more episode to get the story.

間違いなくおとぎ話の雰囲気を感じる。兄弟が（時には赤の他人同士が）それぞれの特技を活かして、無理そうな難題を乗り越えていく昔ながらのお話。自分の好きなおとぎ話にも、そういうのが多かった。絵柄は最初変に感じたけど、間違いなく合ってるし、だんだん好きになってきた。たぶん見続けると思う

Definitely getting fairy tale vibes from this. The classic story where brothers, or sometimes strangers, have to use their unique gifts to overcome seemingly impossible challenges. These were some of my favorite fairy tales. The art style seemed weird at first, but definitely fits and is growing on me. Will probably keep watching this one.

自分だけかな、城代の声がキース・シルバースタインが『MONSTER』のヨハンを演じたときの声にそっくりに聞こえるんだけど。まだ声優のクレジットが全部出てないのは分かってるけど、不気味なくらい聞き覚えがある

Is it just me, or does the Castellan sound just like Keith Silverstein and his tone used for Johan in Monster? I realize that not all VA credits have been done, but it just sounds so eerily familiar.

1話すごく楽しめた。映画を見てるみたいだったし、エンディングの音楽にうっとりした

I really enjoyed the first episode. It felt like I was watching a movie and the ending music was enchanting.

翻訳の人たちって“marronnier”が英語じゃないって分かってるのかな？“Chestnut”（栗）とか“conker”（トチの実）なら普通の英語なのに、“marronnier”は何の言葉でもない

Are the translators aware that marronnier isn’t a word in English? Chestnut and conker are both fine words but marronnier isn’t anything

キービジュアルにはそそられなかったけど、かなり楽しめた。7人の騎士は全員兄弟。母親はまともな名前を考える気がなかった。のんびりしたペースのわりに思ったよりあっという間だった。姫の男声の演技がかなり上手いｗ 次回予告を見るに“ブルーノ”と寒がりやの恋愛がもっと進展しそう。

The key visual didn’t interest me but it was rather enjoyable. 7 knights are all brothers. Mom didnt bother with thinking of proper names for them. Went by faster than I thought for its relaxing pace. The princess is pretty good at her masculine voice acting lol. Next episode preview seems like there’s more romantic development between “Bruno” and Chilly.
