この作品の救いは、よくあるアホくさい無理やりの誤解が無いところだったのに、第2期の最初の2話はまさにそれが中心になってる。
ファンからは『正反対な君と僕』の平と東みたいなのがもっと見られるって言われてたのに、だまされた気分。

The saving grace of this show was that it didn't have the usual dumb and forced misunderstandings, but the first two episodes of the season revolve around that.

I feel scammed when the fans promised me more "Taira and Azuma"-likes from this.

第1期には、覚えてる限り一つも無かったよ。あっても、今の小雪と湊のくだらないすれ違いほどひどくはなかった。

片方が第三者のうそで不安をあおられて、そのせいでもう片方にうそをついたんなら、それは誤解とは言えないだろ。うそを本当だと思えば、二人とも完全に正しく理解してたことになる。全体としては、二人のコミュニケーション能力はこのジャンルじゃまだトップクラスだよ。実際の十代に期待できるより上なくらいだ。

It's not really a misunderstanding when one side had his anxieties stoked by a third party's lies and in turn lied to the other side. If taking the lies as truth, they were understood completely correctly. On the whole, their communication skills are still top tier for the genre, arguably better than you could expect from real teenagers.

桃香は友達から恋人になることについての自分の意見でうそをついたし、小雪の言葉の前後関係でもうそをついた。湊ははっきり自分の気持ちについてうそをついた。

Momoka lied about her own opinion on the friendzone and she lied about the context of Koyun's words. Minato lied about his feelings overtly.

桃香は湊に、小雪は「友達と付き合いたがる男はキモい」と思ってるってうそをついたんだよ。

She lied to Minato about Koyun thinking men wanting to date their friends os creepy.

それに湊が陽太にうそをつかなかったら、陽太と美姫が二人を後押ししてたはず。

まさにそれが理由で、湊が迷い直すところがはっきり描かれてるだろ。

Also Minato wouldn't have lied to Yota, so Yota and Miki would've encouraged them to go for it.

We literally see him second guess himself for that exact reason.

これ『正反対な君と僕』みたいだけど、カップルの組み合わせがシーザー暗号みたいに一つずつずれてる感じだな。

This is like Polar Opposites but the pairing are shifted to another pair like a caesar shift.

よりによって小雪が、誰かに自己肯定感のアドバイスをしてるのが一番笑える。

Koyun giving ANYONE advice about Self-esteem is the funniest s**t.

あの場面はまるごと、小雪が、自分の「女心の理屈」と向き合わされて、それに戸惑う話だったよね。

最初はそう思ってたんだろうけど、途中から本気で戸惑ってたよ。秋音が美姫2号のことを、アイドルオタクみたいに語ってたからね。

秋音の姉がまた出てきて、思い出させてくれた。桃香は好きじゃないけど、上には上がいるんだよな。

Akine's sister being brought up again is a good reminder that as much as I dont like Momoka, it can always be worse.

桃香は人を操るけど、少なくとも、あからさまにいじめて悪口を言うタイプじゃない。小雪を批判したときも、もっともな話で、受け身なところを突いてた。

Momoka's manipulative but at least she's not a straight up bully who trash talks. Even when she criticized Koyun it was for her (legitimate) passivity.

それに桃香は、前の女の子のときみたいに文句を言われないよう、「正々堂々と勝負するため」に狙いを小雪に伝えてた。小さな嘘とそのリスクも手のうちだけど、桃香なりの変な筋の通し方があるんだ。

And she also told Koyun what she was going for "to keep the fight fair" so that there are not complaints (like with the other girl before). She has a weird code of honour even if a few smaller lies (and the risk that comes with that) are part of her arsenal.

うん、桃香は好きじゃないけど、ひどい目に遭えとまでは思わない。

Yeah I don’t like Momoka, but I don’t wish the worst for her.

湊は小雪が好きなんだと何人もが思ってたと聞いても、小雪が無反応だったのが信じられない。しかも、湊はたぶん小雪が好きだと分かってた月子が、今度は小雪の気持ちまで知っちゃった。次回それを話すなら、反応があるといいな。

I can't believe Koyun had no reaction to hearing that multiple people assumed Minato liked her and now Tsukiko who also knew Minato probably liked her knows how Koyun feels. Hopefully she has a reaction if she says it next episode.

まあ、事情を考えるとね。湊は女の子みんなに優しいと思われてる。小雪は湊と陽太の会話を聞いて、湊本人の口から自分はただの友達だと聞いたと誤解した。そして湊は今、桃香と付き合ってる。
それに前にも、何人ものキャラが、誰かが誰かを好きだと思い込んで、実際はそうじゃなかったことがある。もっとはっきりしない限り、小雪にはよくても曖昧なサインにしか思えないんじゃないかな。

Well given that:
Minato is thought to be nice to girls in general
Koyoki's misunderstanding with hearing Minato and Yota's conversation to think he seen her as only a friend from Minato's mouth himself
Minato is now going out with Momoka
Also multiple characters already thought someone liked someone else before, when that wasn't necessarily the case.
It seems like she could still have mixed messages at best on that, unless things are more cleared up.

そうそう。小雪は湊本人の口から、ただの友達としか見てないって聞いちゃってるんだから。よりによって陽太相手に、湊がうそをついてるなんて疑う理由も無い。

Yeah, she basically heard directly from Minato own mouth that he only saw her as a friend.
There is no reasons for her to suspect that he would be lying to Yota, of all people.

恋のライバルでさえ両思いだと気づいてて、その気持ちを崩す計画を立てなきゃ「勝ち」を奪えなかったくらいなのに。

Even her Love Rival knew it was mutual and had to plot out a scheme of undermining their mutual feelings to be able to steal a "win."

この作品の友達グループ、本当に好き。

I really love the friend group in this show.

陽太と美姫は小雪を思って気まずそうなのに、月子だけは、推しカップルが最後に行き詰まったのを知らずに浮かれてる。あの場面、最高に笑った。

That scene of Yota/Miki feeling bad for Koyun while only Tsukiko was happy not knowing her favorite ship had hit a roadblock at the end just killed me lol.

これで三人とも、小雪のことで胸を痛めることになるな（笑）

Now all 3 of them will feel bad for her lol

脇役まで、みんな愛おしい。

Even secondary characters are precious

ピンと来なかった人は、字幕版で声を聞いてみて。小雪と話すときの湊の声は、ふだんより（もちろん桃香と話すときより）ほんの少し高いんだ。
もう顔には出さないけど、いい声優は気持ちを声で表現できる。本当の好意が、ちょっと漏れてるんだよ。

If you idn't really catch on, you should listen to the sub and observe the tone Minato uses when talking with Koyun, which is at a subtly higher one than his normal self (and of course with Momoka).
He doesn't show it on his face anymore, but a good VA knows how to express feelings and his actual affection kind of leaks.

小雪の前だと、湊は作った声が出せないんだよ。

He can't sound fake with Koyun.

秋音は姉と縁を切って、小雪の名誉きょうだいになるべき。

Akine should disown her sister and become Koyun's honorary sibling

小雪が秋音に、そのままでいい、自分に自信を持っていいって伝えたのは、昔の自分に話しかけてるみたいだった。自分が受けたのと同じ、あの姉からのいじめやけなし言葉から、秋音を「救おう」としてたんだと思う。
桃香は、女友達を大事にするタイプじゃないのは確かだね。

I feel like Koyun telling Akine that there's nothing wrong with who she is and she should feel confidence in herself was like her talking to her younger self and trying to "save" Akine from the same kind of bullying and dressing down from Atagawa that she experienced.
Momoka is definitely not a girl's girl.

湊は、付き合うってことをだいぶゆがんで捉えてる。それが湊の問題なんだよ。
かわいそうな小雪。手遅れになってから、やっと問題に気づいたんだね。共感しすぎて胸が痛い。

Minato has a very skewed sense of what a relationship is and that’s his problem.
Poor koyun she finally realized the problem when it was too late. Too relatable my heart hurts for her

人を喜ばせよう、人の気持ちに応えようと必死すぎて、自分の気持ちにすら正直になれないんだよね。
小雪もそのあおりを受けてる。何より欲しかったものに、失ってから気づいたんだから。

He tries so hard to please other people and respond to their feelings that he can't even be true to his own feelings.
And Koyun is also feeling the aftermath of that now that she's lost the one thing she realizes now she wanted more than anything.

湊に桃香と付き合う『権利』があるとしても、桃香はせいぜい失恋の『穴埋め』の相手。恋の始まりとしてはいい土台じゃない。
正直、まず自分のことを少し整理するまでは、誰とも付き合うべきじゃないと思う。でないと、また同じ失敗を繰り返しかねない。

Even if he has a "right" to go out with Momoka, at best she is a "rebound" and that's not a good foundation to starting a relationship.
He honestly shouldn't be going out with anyone until he kinda sorts himself out a bit more first in general, otherwise he could still fall into the same pattern with failed relationships.

見ていてつらい。現状維持を選んだことを、小雪がはっきり後悔してるのが分かって胸が痛む。湊の前でも、もうほとんど隠せてないし。うう……。
秋音って、実はこの作品でいちばん心のきれいなキャラの一人なんだよな。あんなクズな姉がいて、こんなにまっすぐな子に育ってくれてよかった。
湊がその考え方を捨てるには、何か大きなきっかけか出来事が要る……それはきっと、小雪が告白に踏み出すことなんだろうな。

This is horrible to watch and it hurts me seeing Koyuki clearly regretting everything about her decision to keep the status-quo. D: She can barely hide it anymore in front of Minato, ughhh.
Akine is actually one of the most pure-hearted characters in this show, damn. Glad she grew up to be such a genuine person with a scum sister like that.
There need to be a big tell or event happening for Minato for him get rid of his mindset...it surely needs to be Koyuki taking the needed step to confess.

受け身なメインヒロインが、受け身すぎたツケをちゃんと払わされるなんて珍しいよね。

For once the passive Main Heroine has to actually reap the consequences of being too passive.

秋音と優希かあ。何、あの二人もいわゆる「正反対」な二人ってやつ？

Akine and Yuki huh, what are they, some kind of polar opposites?

選択肢がもう無いって、どういうこと？　小雪、まだ手遅れじゃないよ。今度は小雪が略奪する側になればいい！
小雪と秋音が打ち明け合う場面、すごく好き。小雪が昔の自分にアドバイスしてるみたいだった。
それと、しなかった理由は分かるけど、美姫が湊にブチ切れて、首を絞めてでも目を覚まさせるところが見たかった。

What do you mean there's no options left? It's still not too late for regrets Koyun, you can become the homewrecker instead!
I really like the scene of Koyun and Akine confiding in each other, feels like Koyun giving advice to her younger self.
Also, I understand why she didn't but I wanted to see Miki go ape on Minato and strangle some sense into him.

正直、小雪がちょっとくらい略奪する側になっても、そんなに気に病まなくていいと思う。桃香だって、すごく誠実なやり方で湊と付き合い始めたわけじゃないし。

Honestly, Koyuki probably shouldn’t feel too bad if she decides to become somewhat of a homewrecker. Momoka didn’t exactly got to date Minato in a particularly earnest way either.

いや、桃香のあのやり方は本当にひどすぎた。誰かがあの二人の仲を奪っても、目をつぶって何も見なかったことにするよ（笑）

優希を好きになる理由がまだ足りなかったとしても、秋音と友達になって、一度も態度を変えなかったのは本当に素敵だった。小雪のほうが年上なのに、優希が小雪を妹扱いしてるのも笑える。
優希は小雪と湊がいい感じだと思ってたって秋音が言ってたから、あの「小雪借りる」は、わざと湊を挑発してたんだと分かってうれしい。
美姫には思ってることを言ってほしかったけど、ためらった理由も分かる。イライラしてる美姫は面白かったけどね。

If there wasn't already enough reasons to like Yuuki, to see how he befriended Akine and never treated her differently was really sweet to see. I also find it amusing how he sees Koyuki as a younger sister even though she's older lol.

Since Akine confirms that Yuuki thought Koyuki and Minato had a thing going on, it's nice to know he was deliberately provoking Minato with that "I'm taking Koyun".

I did wish Miki said what was on her mind, but I can see why she was hesitant. Her frustration was amusing though.

小雪も優希も、自分のほうが姉だ、兄だって言い張ってて、きょうだいっぽさがますます強まった。きょうだいって、そういうもんだしね。

Having Koyuki and Yuki both claim to be the older sister/brother, just further reinforced there sibling dynamic. That’s what siblings tend to do after all.

優希にとって、上のきょうだいっていうのは美姫みたいな人なんだと思う。小雪は……どう見てもそういうタイプじゃない。だから姉にはなれないし、妹ってことになったんだろうね！

He probably sees it as Miki is how an older sibling to him should be, while Koyun is... definitely not that sort of person. So since she can't be the older sibling, I guess she's the younger sibling now!

Well, he's older if you substitute older with taller and for some siblings that's how it works.

でも正直、優希がさりげなく湊を挑発してたとは思わないな。あの子にそんな器用さは無い。10分くらいあとに、秋音に「一緒に帰ろう。何か食べてく？」って言ってたのを見てよ。

To be fair, I don't think Yuuki was subtly provoking Minato at all; the boy doesn't have enough subtlety for that. Just look at his "let's walk home. You wanna grab something to eat?" thing to Akine like... 10 minutes later

小雪は動かなきゃ。今となっては、湊が前に進むのは正しい。振り向いてくれない子を想い続けても仕方ないし、最初は無くても付き合ううちに好きになることもある、というのも正しい。とはいえ湊も、小雪にもっとはっきり気持ちを示すべきだった。
このアニメのせいで、本気で「彼女がいても浮気しちゃえ！」って叫んでた。

Koyuki has to go for it. At this point Minato is right to move on. For him theres no point in pining for a girl that doesn’t like him back. And he is right that love could grow during a relationship even if its not there initially. Although he also should have been more forward with Koyuki aswell.
Also this show really had me yelling “Go cheat on your girlfriend!” unironically.

もし小雪が告白したら、両思いだと分かった湊は、その場で桃香と別れるのかな。どっちにしても桃香は、何をしてもこの関係が進まないと気づくことになりそう。
それに五十嵐も、小雪が本当の恋をあきらめたり、前と同じ間違いを繰り返したりしないよう、背中を押してくれそうな気がする。

I do wonder if Koyuki confessed if he'd just dump Momoka on the spot after realizing his feelings are requited. Though it's probably inevitable that Momoka will realize that the relationship isn't going anywhere no matter what she does.
But I think Igarashi is also going to help motivate Koyuki to not give up on chance for true love or make the same mistakes she made before.

その理屈は湊自身にも当てはまるよね。小雪が今は好きじゃなくても、付き合ううちに好きになるかもしれない。湊は気持ちを伝えてないんだから、やってみなきゃ分からない。でも湊は、二人の関係を壊すのも怖いみたい。

That argument could be said to him, that even if Koyuki doesn't like him it could grow into it in a relationship. He hasn't expressed those feelings to her, so he won't know unless he tries. But it seems he's also afraid of ruining their relationship.

二人とも、自分の親友二人に起きたことを見たばかりだからね。同じ目にあいたくはないよ。

Well both of them just saw what happened with their two best friends so not something they'd want to stumble into.

この作品、ほんとに最高。じっくり積み上げてきたから、今やこの二人にとっては手をつなぐことが本気の一大事に感じる。
二人とも自信の無さでいっぱいで、その描き方がリアルで、初めて「付き合った」ころの自分を思い出す。それと、あの「すごく苦しい」の感情のこもった演技は本当に刺さった。見ごたえのある作品だ。

This show is so f*****g good.
They spent so much time cooking this, that at this point I genuinely feel that handholding is actually high stakes for these two.
They're just full of self doubt, and in my opinion they way they paint it feels real, and reminds me of how I was when I first started "dating"
I'll also say that the emotional delivery of that "It hurts so much" really hits the spot. Very rewarding show.

小雪は城壁で心を囲って、深い感情のつながりを遠ざけてきた。でも初めて本気で恋をして、それが（本人から見れば）苦しいほどの片思いだから、その城壁がどんどん崩れていってる。

Koyun had kept her heart so walled up from deep emotional connections via her ramparts but now it's been all following apart when she's truly fallen in love for the first time and it's a (perceived) agonizingly one-sided love.

完全に同意。小雪は壁を作って、気持ちを向こう側に閉じ込めてた。今はそれがあふれ出してる。でも少なくとも向き合ったし、ありえたかもしれない形を知ったうえで、なんとか受け止めようとしてる。

Hard agree, she put up a wall and locked her feelings on the other side.
Now it's pouring out. But at least she did face it, and is trying to deal with it after understanding what could have been.

小雪、湊が桃香と付き合ってるのを全然受け止められてないな。救いがあるとすれば、今は気楽に頼れて話せる人たちがいて、他人に心を開くようになったこと。おかげで、自分の頭の中とつらい失恋に閉じこもらずに済んでる。湊の名前を聞いただけで取り乱すのは相変わらずだけど。
美姫が小雪のために憤慨してるのは当然だね。ただ、自分の選択を正当化してるように聞こえずに湊を責めるのは難しい。湊は湊で、本人の見方からすれば必ずしも間違ってない……でも、気持ちが入ってないのは見え見えで、小雪とは一緒になれないと思ってるから諦めてるだけなんだよな。
でも、湊がほかの誰かと付き合っていても、わざわざ助けてくれる姿を見るだけで、小雪にとってはすべてなんだ。現実は否定できない。小雪は心の底から湊が好き。湊に彼女がいるのは嫌。「ただの友達」じゃうれしくない。今のままでいいってふりをしたのは自分を守るためだったのに、それが見事に裏目に出た。
（あと、小雪の髪がシャツの中に押し込まれてる絵面はなかなかだった）
ついに秋音が小雪とわだかまりを解いた！　秋音も実は桃香に利用されてたんだね（さすが女友達思いの桃香さん！）。小雪の前で気まずそうにしてたのは、優希が小雪を好きだと思ってたから……優希は秋音が憧れてる推しだから。秋音も姉の被害者だった。あの姉は、太ってて「ブス」だって面と向かって妹をいじめてたんだ。だから優希が普通に接してくれて、本当の友達でいてくれたことが、秋音にとってはすべてだった！　憧れと恋の境目は紙一重かもしれないけど、小雪はもう秋音×優希を推してると思う。
桃香が、夏祭りで湊と過ごすために友達を放り出すんじゃなく、友達との約束を守るなんて？　驚いたよ。湊と出かける約束一つで舞い上がってるのを見ると、ちょっとかわいそうにもなる……ちょっとだけね。
浴衣のキャラが一人もいない夏祭り？　まあ、それはそれでリアルか。小雪は、湊には「相手がいる」と分かってても、近くにいたい、一緒に過ごしたいって気持ちを抑えられないし、自分の気持ちをどうしていいかも分からない……そこへ緊急事態の、ハレンチな手つなぎ発生。もう二人きりになって告白しちゃえよ！
かわいそうな月子。第1期からずっと小雪×湊を推してて、ついに小雪に聞いてみたら、湊が今は桃香と付き合ってるなんて知らなかったうえに、小雪が抱えてる心の苦しみを受け止める役になっちゃった。
五十嵐！？　まだ物語に出番があるのか！？

Koyun is NOT taking Minato dating Momoka well. I guess, silver-lining, that she now has opened her heart up to others now that she has people she can comfortably rely on and talk to so she's not stuck in her own head and with her agonizing heartbreak. Even if she still freaks out when she even hears Minato's name.
Obviously Miki is incensed for Koyun's sake, even if she can't really criticize Minato without sounding like she's trying to validate her own decisions. And Minato, for his part, isn't necessarily wrong in his own perspective...but you can tell his heart isn't in it and he's resigned only because he thinks he can't be with Koyun.
But even if Minato is with someone else, just seeing him go out of his way to help her means everything to Koyun. She can't deny the reality: she likes Minato with all her heart. She doesn't like him having a girlfriend. She's not happy being "just friends," and acting like she was okay with things staying as they are was just an attempt to protect herself that backfired spectacularly.
(Also Koyun's hair stuffed down her shirt is quite the visual)
Akine finally clears the air with Koyun! Turns out she too was basically being used by Momoka (what a girls' girl, that Momoka!), and she actually was self-conscious around Kyoun because she thought Yuki liked HER...because Yuki is her oshi whom she admires. And she too is also a victim of Atagawa Elder, because Atagawa would bully her own sister for being overweight and an "uggo" straight to her face. Which is why Yuki treating her normally and being a true friend meant everything to her! Maybe it's a thin line between admiration and romantic love, but I think Koyun ships AkinexYuki now.
Momoka would actually fulfill a promise with a friend rather than dump said friend to hang out with Minato at a festival? Color me surprised. Though I almost feel bad for her that one promise to hang out with Minato sends her on cloud 9...almost.
A festival visit without a single character in a yukata? I guess that's realistic. Just like how Koyun can't help herself from want to be close to and hang out with Minato, despite knowing he's "spoken for" and not knowing what else to do with her feelings...and then we get an emergency lewd handhold situation. JUST GET A ROOM AND CONFESS YOU TWO!
Poor Tsukiko. She'd been shipping KoyunxMinato since season 1, finally asks Koyun about it, had no idea about Momoka now dating Minato, and now has to be the one to help Koyun with all the emotional agony she's going through.
Igarashi!? You still have a role to play in the plot!?

エンディングのあとに五十嵐が出てきたのには、自分も驚いた。何をするつもりなんだろう。自分を好きじゃない相手と付き合うのは間違いだって、桃香に言ってくれるといいな。五十嵐自身、小雪とのことでそれを経験してるんだし。

Igarashi being in the post credit shocked me too. I wonder what he's going to do, hopefully tell Momoka she's making a mistake by getting someone who doesn't like her to date her. Since that's what he went through with Koyun.

なんとも言えないな。今、物語に関わる人物とのつながりは、小雪と美姫、それにもしかしたら、もしかして秋音の姉。美姫の話に絡むとは思えないから、小雪か秋音のどちらかで、主人公なのを考えると小雪の方がずっとありそう。
ただ、ややこしくする以外に、物語に何をもたらすのかが分からない。出来の悪い作品なら、湊に嫉妬させて取り戻すための、偽の恋のお相手として戻ってきたって言うところだけど、この作品はそういうタイプじゃないよね？
うーん、もっとしっくりくるのは、自分の行動や思い込みを小雪に謝ることかな。前に会ったときは、解決したというより、素通りしただけだったし。それでも今のテーマとは合わない。どうはまるのか、ちょっと見当がつかない。

It's... difficult to say. Right now his connnections to plot-relevant people are with Koyun, Miki, and maybbbbbeeeeee Akine's sister. I don't see him possibly being involved with Miki's story so I have to assume either Koyun or Akine, and Koyun is much more likely as the MC. I just don't know what he has to offer to the story besides complications. In a worse written show I'd say he's back for an alternative love interest (fake) to get Minato back over jealousy... but I don't think this is that type of show?
Hmm. What would fit better would be for him to apologize to her for his actions and assumptions? I guess it wasn't really resolved as much as bypassed last time they met... Still doesn't quite match the current theme though. Bit stumped as to how he fits here.

心理描写も恋愛も良くて、テンポもなかなかの回だった！　桃香の出番もすごく少なかった。たぶん原作の90話あたりかな。まあ、桃香は少ないほどいいけどね。

A great psychological and romantic episode with pretty good pacing! Very minimal momoka too which was from chap 90 i suppose. But less momoka is always good

個人的な楽しみとして、ちびキャラの演出は本当に起きてることだと思うことにする。美姫と優希は自分や周りを大きくしたり小さくしたりできるのに、誰もそれに触れないんだ。
それと、今回を見たあとでは、秋音を姉と同類かもと疑ったことに謝罪文を書きたい。秋音の話を聞いて、心の中で思ってたことを一切口にしなかった小雪の判断は正しい。でも自分が小雪の立場だったら、もっと下手にやってたと思う。黙ってると罪悪感があるから、姉からのいじめの話を持ち出して、思い込みを謝ってたはず。

For my own personal entertainment I am going to take the chibi’s as what is literally happening and that Miki and her brother have the ability to grow and shrink themselves and others but nobody acknowledges it.
Also apology form filled out for Akine for ever even considering she was like her sister after this episode. Kohyun hearing her out and never bringing up her inner thoughts is the correct choice but I probably would have handled it worse in her shoes and I would have brought up the bullying by her older sister and apologize for the presumption just because I would feel a sense of guilt for hiding that if I didn’t.

秋音って、実はすごく優しい子だよね。ちょっと不器用なだけ。だから本心がうまく伝わらないことがあるんだ。
桃香は秋音の優しさを、自分のために利用したようにも見える。正直それじゃ、秋音の自分勝手な姉とたいして変わらない。
優希は小雪に恋愛感情は無いのかもしれないけど、湊には、わざと挑発する言い方をしたよね？　たぶん湊にプレッシャーをかけるためだ。ぐずぐずしてると、ほかの誰かに取られるぞって。

Akine is actually a very sweet girl, isn’t she? Just a bit awkward. That’s why her true intentions don’t always get across properly.
It does seem like Momoka might’ve exploited Akine’s kindness to her own benefit. Which wouldn’t make her much better than Akine’s selfish big sister, frankly.
Yuki might not like Koyuki in a romantic sense, but he did intentionally provoke Minato with his phrasing - right? Probably to put some pressure on Minato; letting him know that someone else could steal her away in the meantime.

Yuki might not like Koyuki in a romantic sense, but he did intentionally provoke Minato with his phrasing - right? Probably to put some pressure on Minato; letting him know that someone else could steal her away in the meantime.
The irony that it was completely unintentional in season 1 but it might not be now.

今回の小雪の声優さんは見事だった。自分にも自分の気持ちにも正直になれなかったことを、思い返して後悔してるのが本当に伝わってきた。［『正反対な君と僕』第2期］本田が西に、友達のままでいて相手が別の誰かと付き合っても山田を応援できるかって聞く場面と重なってて面白い。小雪の場合は、明らかにできなかったし、気づいたのも遅すぎた。
小雪が秋音に、過去の傷に今の自分を決めさせちゃダメだって言うのは、同時に自分自身にも言ってるみたいじゃない？
小雪の友達の輪が、メインの四人を越えて、月子やハヤト、ダイチにまで少しずつ広がっていくのもかわいい。最初のころは、みんなに引いてたのに。

Koyun’s VA knocked it out of the park today. You can really feel her ruminating and regretting her inability to be honest with herself and her feelings. [Polar Opposites S2] Funny to see the parallel with the scene where Honda asks if Nishi can support Yamada if they stayed friends and he ended up dating someone else - in Koyun’s case, she clearly couldn’t but found out too late.
Koyun tells Akine not to let her past trauma define her current self, which at the same time feels like she is also telling herself?
It’s also adorable to see Koyun’s social circle slowly expand past the main 4 to also include Tsukiko, Hayato and Daichi (contrast early episodes, when she was put off by them)

おやおや小雪、これが何もしなかった報いってやつだね。
それでも、桃香が痛い目を見る展開が待ちきれない。思いきりスカッとさせてほしい。

うわ、秋音の姉がどれだけひどいか忘れてた。本当にひどい人だ。

wtf I forgot how awful Akine's sister is, what an horrible human being.

第1期の姉妹のツーショット自撮り、見え方が変わるね。秋音が世間的に見てかわいくなったから、姉は秋音を利用して「親友」みたいに見せて、いいねを稼いでただけだったんだ。それまで、さんざんいじめて見下してきたくせに。

That selfie of the sisters together last season takes on a new light when you realize Atagawa only took it because Akine got more conventionally attractive so her sister could actually use her and portray them as "besties" for likes as if Atagawa hadn't bullied/demeaned her up to that point.

小雪が心に城壁を築いて、湊とのことをゆっくり進めすぎた理由の、少なくとも50%は、あの姉のせいだ。
残りは五十嵐と、両親の離婚と、中学時代のからかい全般だね。

She's at least 50% of the reasons why Koyun built up Ramparts, and took it far too slow with Minato.
The rest is part Igarashi, part her parents divorce, part the overall teasing in middle school.

その一方で、秋音は本当にいいキャラだ。

そのぶん、秋音が姉の再来じゃなかったと分かったのが、いっそううれしい。でも同時に、秋音も姉の被害者の一人だったと知るのはつらい。

Makes the reveal that Akine herself wasn't the second coming of her after all extra sweet though (but at the same time it sucks to learn she was another one of her victims)

湊の付き合うことへの考え方は、ほかの人と根本的に違うんだよね（自分はわりと賛成）。最初はもっと手探りで、本気じゃなくてもいい。
両方が好き同士になってから付き合うんじゃなくて、「相手を知って、恋人になれるかを確かめる」感じ。美姫以外の誰かにも、それを話せばいいのに……。

Minato has a fundamentally different concept of dating than everyone else, (one that I kinda agree with) where it can be more exploratory and less committed at the beginning. More of a "learning about the other person, seeing if a romantic relationship is possible at all" instead of both people having to like like each other before dating. It'd help if he actually told anyone besides Miki this though...

今回は小雪の心の声に寄せて、湊の考えは、小雪と同じく見る側にも分からないままにしたのが良かった。特にラムネの場面。小雪は「ドキドキしてるのは私だけ」と思ってるけど、湊もその瞬間に苦しんでるはずだって、こっちは分かってるんだよね。

I appreciated this episode focused on Koyun's internal monologue and left us (like Koyun) outside of what Minato is thinking. Specifically the Ramune moment where she thinks 'im the only one with the thumping heart', while we KNOW that Minato must be tortured at that very same moment.

秋音は、高校デビューに成功したんだな。

Akine had a successful high school debut.

湊と付き合っても、小雪の心に染みついた傷は治らないよ。

Going out with Minato won't fix Koyuki's internalized trauma

そうだけど、治る必要はないし、付き合う前に問題を『解決』しておかなきゃいけないわけでもない。誰だっていろんな悩みを抱えながら、付き合ったり結婚したりしてる。むしろ一緒に向き合うほうがいいことも多い。ただ、今の状況は、小雪が変わるきっかけにはなるね。

Right but it doesn't have to, nor does she really need to "solve" her problems before they could potentially date. People have all sorts of struggles that they manage while dating or married; it's often better to manage those things together. The situation does put her in the position to make some changes though.

どんでん返しの話が大好きだから、小雪が別の誰かと付き合い始めた頃になって、湊も小雪を逃したと手遅れで気づく展開になったら面白いと思う。

I love a good reversal plot, so I think it'd be fun if Minato realizes too late that he also let Koyun slip through his fingers by the time she's actually dating someone else.

この新しい脇のカップル候補、好きだな。あのひどい姉を嫌ってるってだけで、秋音はもういい面を見せてるし。
恋の悩みは別にしても、夏祭りに誘ってくれるような友達の輪が小雪に広がっていくのを見るのはうれしい。
でも月子はかわいそう。お祭りを楽しんで、湊と小雪が近づくかもってはしゃいでたら、恋愛の地雷を思いっきり踏んじゃった。

I like this new potential side ship, especially since Akine is already showing her good side by way of hating her horrible sister.
Irrespective of her relationship issues it's nice seeing Koyun developing this larger friend group that does stuff like invite her to festivals.
Poor Tsukiko though, out here having a fun festival time getting all giddy about Minato and Koyun maybe getting close and instead she steps right on the relationship land mine.

内気で引っ込み思案な十代の子が気持ちを整理してるのを、外から見る側になった小雪が、即座に「でも恋愛として好きなんでしょ？！」ってなるのが笑える。

It's funny to see Koyun on the outside of a shy, withdrawn, teen sorting through her feelings and instantly going "but you like him romantically don't you?!"

優希って美姫と同じで、男女関係なく仲間とつるむのが好きなだけで、それ以上深くは考えてない気がする。
秋音が『私がモテてどうすんだ』ばりの変身を遂げてたとは思わなかった。でも、だからって姉があんな扱いをしていい理由にはならない。今はかわいくなった秋音と自撮りして、SNSで仲良しアピールしてたのを思い出すと、なおさらひどい。言葉で傷つけてきた妹を、いいね稼ぎに使ってただけなんだから。

I feel like Yuki is like his sister where he just vibes and likes hanging out with his buds of either gender and doesn't think too deeply beyond that.
I did not expect Akine to have gone through the Kiss Him Not Me! transformation but that's no excuse for her sister to have treated her like that. It's even worse when you remember she took a selfie with the now cute and attractive Akine to spin it on socials that they're close, which was basically just using her sister she verbally abused for likes.

お互いの姉同士のいざこざが、この先じゃまにならないといいな。だって秋音と優希、すごくかわいいんだもん。

Hope both of their big sisters' beef doesn't get in the way of anything down the line because man Akine and Yuki are adorable

最後に小雪が、黒髪の子に素直に弱いところを見せたのが好き。あれには強さが要る。

I love that Koyun was honest and vulnerable there at the end with the black haired girl. That takes some strength.

湊と小雪の場面で、視点が切り替わるのがすごく面白い。小雪の側から見ると、赤くなってうれしそうなのに、湊の視点になったとたん、おびえた顔に見える。これじゃ湊が、好かれてないと思うのも無理ないって。

It’s pretty interesting the perspective change when seeing these minato koyun moments. From koyun’s side we see her blushing and happy about the situation but as soon as it’s from minato pov she looks terrified. You really can’t blame the guy for thinking she doesn’t like him lol.

さて、秋音と優希のカップルを推す人は？　関係がはっきりしなくて、こっちが「あああ！」ってなる、かわいい二人がまた増えたぞ。
一方で小雪は、何もしなかったことと、その結果を心底後悔してる。でも今さら何ができる？　自分を責める以外に。しかもこのごたごたの真っ最中に、話をややこしくするためだけに元カレが再登場。なんでもありだな。

Alright, who's on board the Akine-Yuki ship? Another cute couple with an ambiguous relationship for us to go aaaarrghhh over.
Meanwhile, Koyun is fully regretting her own non-action and where it's led. What can she do now though? Aside from kick herself over it. And in the midst of all this mess, we get a return of her ex just to complicate things because why not. It's all happening.

秋音にとって優希は、どちらかというと推しなのは分かってる。でももう二人を推してる。この先どうなるか見たい。
秋音も視聴者と同じくらい、姉のことが大嫌いだと分かってよかった。真夏は小雪にひどいだけじゃなく、秋音にもひどかったんだ。昔の秋音があんなに違う見た目だったのは意外だった。地味な子からギャルになってる。

I know Akine is treating Yuki more like her oshi; I'm now shipping them. I wanna see how their relationship progresses.
I'm glad to know that Akine hates her sister as much as the audience does. It turns out, Manatsu isn't just horrible to Koyuki, but is also horrible to Akine. I didn't expect Akine to look so different back then. The girl went from looking plain to a gyaru.

オープニングで、優希と秋音って組になってるよね？　シリーズが終わるまでに、少なくとも何かが始まりそうな気がする。

Yuki and Akine are paired in the intro, right? I suspect we'll see at least the beginnings of something by the end of the series

エンディングにも、ロッカーのところにいる秋音の前に、優希が大きすぎるゴールデンレトリバーみたいに現れる場面がある。秋音は驚いてるだけじゃなく、ちょっと慌ててるみたいだった。
小雪とのあの話で、優希についての誤解がだいぶ解けたし、秋音がもっと踏み出すきっかけになるかもね。姉のいじめと、それで傷ついた自信を別にすれば、秋音は自分から動ける人に育ったように見える。

There's also a moment in the ED when she's at the locker and he shows up like the oversized golden retriever that he is and she's seems not just surprised but flustered from him being there.
That little talk with Koyuki removed quite a few misconceptions she had (about him) and might lead to her trying for more. She seems otherwise (besides the bullying by her sister and how that probably hit her self-esteem) like she grew up into a person who can take the initiative.

もし桃香がヒロインで、小雪が負けたお邪魔虫の少女漫画だったら、今回小雪がしたことは典型的な「友達として一緒にいるだけだから平気、でもやっぱり好き」の回で、読者を大いにイラッとさせるだろうね。面白い見方でしょ？
小雪は自分でも、ときどきずるくなれるって認めてる。こういうところも小雪の魅力として、みんなに気づいてほしいな。

If this is a shoujo manga where Momoka is the heroine and Koyun is the losing third wheel, what she did this episode is a classic “it’s ok I’m just doing this with him as a friend but oh no I love him” chapter, and it’s going to piss so many people off. Funny perspective eh?
Koyun self-admits that she can be cunning at times, and i would want people to catch this part of her charm as well.

小雪が持ち上げられる視点の演出、すごくよかった。混乱ぶりがそのまま伝わってきて、自分の目がおかしくなったのかと思ったよ（笑）
回想の女の子が秋音だと分かるまで（「お弁当忘れてた」の話があっても）けっこう時間がかかったのは、それだけ高校で大変身したってことだね。姉のせいで自分の気持ちの受け止め方がゆがめられたらしいのは悲しいけど、姉と同じ道をたどらずに、むしろ小雪をお姉さんのように慕うようになったのは、見ていて顔がほころぶ。
こんなつらいときでも、月子は最高の恋の援護役だ。

Really respect how well the POV of Koyun getting lifted conveyed her confusion for how it made me think I was tripping lol.
Taking a solid while to register the girl in the flashback was Akine (even with the "forgot your lunch" talk) speaks to how big her high school glowup was. And as sad as how her sister seemingly damaged her perception of her own feelings, it makes me smile that she didn't end up following in her sister's footsteps and came to see Koyun as one instead.
Even in these trying times, Tsukiko remains the best wingwoman.

秋音の想い、ピュアすぎて虫歯になりそう！　秋音を全力で応援してるし、優希は本当にいいやつっぽい。
一方であの姉は、最低のクズだ。
月子の出番がかなり増えてて、すごくうれしい。
美姫と小雪がまたピアスをおそろいにしてるのも、いつもどおりかわいい。

Akine's feelings are so pure, they're gonna give me cavities. Very much rooting for her and Yuki seems like a really decent guy.
Her sister on the other hand is the scum of the earth.
Very happy we are getting a lot more Tsukiko.
Miki and Koyun once again coordinating their earrings is cute as always.

第1話で、誰かが小雪の椅子に座っていたとき、小雪が二つの選択肢で迷って、自分に都合のいいほうを選んだのを覚えてる？　過去の経験から身についた、一種の防衛反応だった。
湊との現状維持を決めたのも同じ。先の見えなさや、がっかりするかもしれないことより、今の関係を選んだんだ。でも桃香が動いた今、小雪は初めてそれを後悔し始めてる。ずっと向き合わずにきた本当の気持ちに、気づかされたから。湊と一緒にいるほど、つらくなる。それに正直、傷ついてるのは小雪だけじゃない。
お互いの気持ちが同じくらいなんて奇跡だ、っていう湊の意見には賛成。最初は気持ちが無くても、相手を知るうちに育つこともある。でも、すでに別の誰かを好きだったら？　その気持ちを、ほかの人と付き合うことで上書きしようとしてるんじゃないか？　第2期1話で美姫とこの話をしてから、湊が迷ってるのははっきり分かるけど、まだ直すところがあるんだろうね。
秋音の姉が自分の都合で小雪を利用したように、秋音と桃香の友情でも似たようなことが起きてて、秋音は今、小雪に全部打ち明けてる。それに、あの姉の失礼さに耐えなきゃいけなかったのは小雪だけじゃなかった。
第1期12話のあの場面から、秋音と優希はどうなってるんだろうって思ってたけど、今は二人を応援してる。中学時代、姉のせいで何もかも地獄みたいだった秋音にとって、優希は光みたいな存在だった。恋愛として好きなのかは本人もはっきりしないけど、優希に幸せでいてほしいし、それが秋音の幸せでもある。優希と小雪をくっつける手伝いをしようとしたくらいに。
そして湊とのことで自分の選択を後悔してる小雪は、秋音には優希と友達でい続けて、そういう意味で好きなのかどうかを自分で確かめてほしいと思ってる。

Remember how in the first episode, we saw Koyun contemplating on 2 options when a person was sitting on her chair and she ended up choosing the one that felt more convenient to her. It was a sort of defense mechanism she'd developed because of her past experiences.
And that's what she ended up making the decision to keep up the status quo with Minato as well. She didn't want to change it because she preferred what they currently had over uncertainty and possible disappointment and well now that Momoka has made her move, for the first time she's starting to regret it because it has made her realize her true feelings which she never allowed herself to really consider. And the more she spends time with Minato, the more it hurts her. And honestly, Koyun isn't the only one who's hurting.
While I agree with Minato that having a similar amount of feelings for each other would be a miracle, even if you don't start with feelings, you can always develop them as you get to know the other person. But what if you already had feelings for someone else, are you doing this to replace those feelings by dating another person? You can tell Minato is definitely a bit conflicted over it ever since he talked about this with Miki in S2 E1 but I guess he still needs to improve on this.
Just like Akine's older sister used Koyun for her own needs, something similar happened with her friendship with Momoka and now she's coming clean about things with Koyun. And well Koyun wasn't the only one who had to bear Atagawa's rudeness.
I was wondering what was up with Akine and Yuki ever since this scene in S1 Episode 12 and well I'm rooting for them now. Yuki was like a beacon of light for Akine in Middle School when everything else felt like hell thanks to her sister and even though she's not fully sure she likes in a romantic sense, she wants him to be happy and that makes her happy. To the point where she was ready to help him get together with Koyun.
And now knowing the regret she's had with her choice with Minato, she wants Akine to keep being friends with Yuki and figure out for herself whether she likes him that way or not.

今回こそ小雪が湊に告白すると思ってたけど、考えてみれば第2期はまだ3話目。告白しなかったのも驚くことじゃないか。
小雪がかわいそうだし、湊と桃香には腹が立つ。告白が遅れた小雪にも、ちょっとだけ。

I thought for sure this episode Koyuki would confess her feelings to Minato, but then again, we're only 3 episodes into season 2 so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised she didn't.
I feel bad for Koyuki and I'm mad at Minato and Momoka, and maybe even Koyuki a bit for not confessing her feelings earlier.

このアニメも原作も大好き。桃香にさえ共感できるし、好きなところも見つかる。90話から100話のアニメ化が待ちきれない。

I so love this anime and manga. Even Momoka, I can feel sympathetic to her and find things about her I like. I cannot wait for them to adapt 90-100.

秋音が姉を大嫌いだと言ったとき、小雪が「私も」って言うんじゃないかと半分期待してた。

I was half expecting Koyuki to say "me too" when Akine said she hated her sister.

前回の引きはすごく緊張感があったけど、今回はだいたい、ひとまずドラマの熱を少し下げて、ほっとさせてくれる回だった。
秋音の掘り下げや、五十嵐の引きみたいに、前に仕込まれてたものがまた話に絡んでくるのはいいね。
秋音と小雪は性格のタイプが似てるし、二人とも秋音の姉とうまくいってない。いい友達になれそう。
第1期でも秋音と優希は後ろで楽しそうなやり取りをしてたし、脇のカップルになるかもしれない。
湊が桃香と付き合ってる今は、主役二人のいつものラブコメっぽい場面を全力で応援するのも、ちょっと違う気がする。一応、彼女がいるわけだから。たとえそれが桃香でも（笑）
でも、湊がちゃんと桃香と終わらせるためにも、二人の間に最低限の正直な会話が要る。
五十嵐が今の状況にどう絡んでくるのか、気になる。

Despite the high tension of last episode cliffhanger, this next episode for the most part gave some relief to the dial some of the drama down a bit for now.
Nice to see some pieces into the story that were set up come back into play, like getting more with Akine and the cliffhanger with Igarashi.
Akine and Koyuki have similarities with their personality types and both not having a good dynamic with Akine's sister. Seems like they could be good friends.
I thought Akine and Yuki had a fun dynamic in the background in S1, and it seems like it could be a potential side pairing.
Now that Minato is going out with Momoka, doesn't feel quite right to fully root for the usual rom com moments of the main characters since he technically has a girlfriend, even if it's Momoka. lol
But we need at least some honest communication between the two, so Minato can properly end things with Momoka.
Interested to see how Igarashi will get intertwined into the current situation.

今回の小雪は感情がぐちゃぐちゃだったけど、湊と比べたら「勝ってる」と思う（そう、湊、マジでしっかりしろ）。自分の気持ちに無理にでも向き合って、自分に正直になって、最後には月子に弱さを見せることもいとわなかった。第1期の最初のころの小雪からは想像もできない、前向きな変化だ。一方の湊は、相変わらずどっちつかずの態度のまま。
小雪の友達が小雪を気にかけてくれてるのも好きだし、秋音は本当に優しい子。鈴木と同じピアスをしてるのは、いい人のしるし (๑╹ω╹๑ )

Despite Koyun going through lots of emotions this episode, I think she’s ‘winning’ compared to Minato (yeah fk you Minato, get your s**t together). Forcing herself to confront her feelings, being honest to herself, willing to be vulnerable to Tsukiko at the end, I think these are positive developments that we would’ve never expected early S1 Koyun to become. Meanwhile Minato is still in his ‘neither here nor there’ attitude.
I love that Koyun’s friends are looking out for her, and Akine is such a sweet person. HAVING SUZUKI’S EARRINGS IS A GREEN FLAG INDICATOR (๑╹ω╹๑ )

小雪は、何もしなかったことと自分へのごまかしのせいで苦しんでる。怖くて前に進めず、チャンスを逃したんだ。
でも湊は本当に中途半端。美姫に同意だよ。友達があんな人と付き合うのは絶対に嫌だ。誰も怒らせたくなくて、選ばれるのを待ってるだけ……意気地がない。
秋音が姉を嫌ってたのは意外だった。小雪と重ねる描き方は、あれこれ理屈を並べてて、ちょっとくどかったけど。でも、自分で気づいて実行するより、人にアドバイスするほうがいつだって簡単なんだよね。

Koyuki is suffering for her inaction and self-delusions. She was too scared to move forward and missed her chance.
But Amamiya is so half hearted. I agree with Miki, I wouldn’t want my friend dating someone like him at all. Too scared to upset anyone, there just to be picked up… he is spineless.
Akine hating her sister was a surprise. And the parallels with Koyuki were a bit heavy handed with all that rationalizaiton. But it is always easy to give advice to others rather than recognize and take it yourself.

阿賀沢先生の恋愛ものでほんとに好きなのは、恋をしてる人間がどれだけ情けなくなれるかを、遠慮なく見せてくれるところ。もちろん愛おしい形でだけど、『正反対な君と僕』も『氷の城壁』も、登場人物が気持ちにどうしようもなくとらわれたとき、人間のいちばん醜い部分まで見せてきた。うまくいく人もいれば、いかない人もいる。でも自分が変わらなきゃ、うまくはいかない。
誰かが誰かを叱ってるときでも、今回の美姫みたいに自分の行動と矛盾してたりする。状況が違えば物事はこんなに違って見えて、何が「正しい」かは議論の余地がある、ってことなんだよね。
それに、気持ちを言葉にするやり方が、いつも痛いところを突いてくる。正直、ここまでうまくやれる漫画家はそう多くない。もっと漫画を描いてほしい。

One thing I really like about Agasawa's romance work is that she isn't shy to show how f*****g pathetic people can be when they are in love. Yes in an adorable way, but both the Polar Opposite and Ramparts cast have shown some of their ugliest human attributes when they are hopelessly caught in their feelings. Some work in their flavour and some don't, but you can only make it work if you make yourself work.
Even when one another are scolding someone else, you will see them contradicting their own actions like Miki does in the episode, and it just shows how different things can be in different context, where what the "correct" thing to do is arguable.
And the way she puts feelings into text just always hits where it hurts. Genuinely there are not many mangakas out there who can do it as good as her. She needs to make more manga.
