アニメが、原作でいちばん絵がよくて少し面長だった時期を飛ばして、横に広くて目の大きい崩れた時期の絵柄にいきなり行ってるのはちょっと残念。とはいえ要所のカットを比べてみると、千夏はだいたいまだかなりいい感じ。調整のあおりを食ってるのは大喜のほうだと思う。大喜の比較画像は今は作らないけど

I'm kinda bummed that the anime is skipping over the best-looking, slightly long-faced style period straight to the wide, big-eyed deterioration stages. Although, now that I'm comparing key shots, Chinatsu is still looking pretty good for the most part. I think Taiki is hit harder by the adjustments. Not gonna do a collage for him right now though.

今回いちばん好きなのは、千夏がなぜか大喜の靴の裏に貼りついたシールを、ノリで食べさせようとするところ。めちゃくちゃ脈絡ないけど、10代ならやりそうだなって思える

My favourite part of the episode is Chinatsu trying to get Taiki to go with the flow and eat the sticker stuck to his shoe for some reason. Its very random, but something I can see teenagers doing.

それに、言葉なしであれだけ上手く通じ合えるくらい、気持ちがつながってるってことも見せてるよな

Also showing how emotionally connected they are that they can non-verbally communicate with each other so adeptly.

前回と今回は、千夏と大喜が言葉少なにまったり楽しく過ごしてるところに誰かが邪魔しに来て、二人で「気まずかったね」って言ってまた仲良しに戻る、って流れなんだよな

This and last episode has just been Chinatsu and Taiki just chilling and having fun together often non verbally and then someone comes to try and ruin it and they say that was awkward and go back to being sweet together.

千夏の無邪気なシールのいたずらみたいな、ちょっとした瞬間が生きがい。
皮肉大臣の夢佳と、控えめな受付のお姉さんの夢佳のギャップがすごかった。それと、なぜか平手打ちより、大喜にテレビを見させなかったほうにイラッとした

Little moments like Chii's innocent little sticker prank are my lifeblood.
The image gap between Minister of Snark Yumeka and humble receptionist lady Yumeka was crazy. And don't know why but her denying Taiki's TV time had me more irked than I was about the slap for some reason.

彼氏は三つ編み＋メガネの夢佳を見たいがために、あの歯医者に通ってるんじゃないかって気がするｗ

I feel like the boyfriend totally goes to that dentist just for an excuse to see her with the braided hair + glasses lol.

The part about him having to come back a couple times is also true. For some reason Japan dentists refuse to complete all dental work in a day.

That was definitely a root canal, he said “it reached the nerve”. I had to go four times for my last one, first was to kill off remaining nerves and the last three was hollowing and finally filling. The drug to kill off the nerve needs time so can’t finish in one anyways.

Definitely not an American issue. Dental work like filling a cavity or a root canal is common and affordable. Even the insurance for dental is cheap.

たぶん保険でほとんどカバーされてるんだろ。医者が神経に近いって言ってたから、根管治療で2〜3回は通うことになるはず

insurance prolly covered most of it and the doc said it's close to the nerve so a root canal will likely be done over two or three visits

スペインもだいたい同じ（もう少し高いけど）。何週間か前に歯医者に行ったら、虫歯2本で40ユーロ＋2回通院だった。電話して次の日に行けた（アニメみたいに当日じゃないけど、ほぼ同じ）

Pretty much the same in Spain (but a bit more expensive). Went to the dentist a few weeks ago and they trated 2 cavities for 40€ + had to go back twice. Just called them and went on the following day (not on the same day as shown in the anime but pretty much).

Also Chinatsu basically saying that she has no intention of giving up on Nationals or whatever it is she has going on with Taiki (but anyone who sees how in-synch they are and how much he makes her laugh/smile can see the obvious).

それに千夏が夢佳に頼りすぎてたみたいだし、それも辞めたくなった理由のひとつかもしれない

I think she was a big fish in a small pond, and in high school she understood that there's always a bigger fish. Also maybe she wanted other things like having a boyfriend or doing arts that would be hard to conciliate with the training.
Also Chinatsu seem to have been too dependent on her and maybe that's another reason for her to want to quit.

I feel like she is mad at him for what she is doing herself. It doesn’t seem like she has any interest in understanding either Taiki or Kano.
I don’t think his actual opinion is that far off. Usually I would say that he might have been able to word it differently or not say anything at all, but this time I won’t fault him due to her own personality.

大喜は、夢佳に向かって一方的に話す前に、せめて夢佳と話してみるべきだったと思う。夢佳が大喜をもともと嫌ってるのは明らかだけど、大喜も自分の立場を悪くしてる。
千夏が大喜をだましてシールを食べさせようとしたちょっとした場面はかわいかった。ああいう小さなことで、二人がもうどれだけ近づいたかがよく分かる

I feel like Taiki should at least try talking with Yumeka before he starts talking at her. It’s clear that she has a natural dislike of him, but he’s not helping his case.
That small moment when Chinatsu tried to trick Taiki into eating the sticker was cute. Little things like that really show how far they’ve already come in getting closer.

大喜は同じアスリートとして夢佳に対して感じたもどかしさと、夢佳が自分の問題を千夏に重ねて説教したことへの苛立ちをぶつけてたんだと思う。それが裏目に出た

I think also Taiki was channeling his own frustration over her as a fellow athlete and how she projected her problems on Chinatsu in lecturing her, which didn't help.

大喜はほとんど話したこともないのに、夢佳について踏み込みすぎて結論を急ぎまくってる。だから説教くさくなり始めたところで、夢佳が言い返してくれてスッとした

Taiki is overreaching & jumping to a ton of conclusions despite having barely talked to Yumeka, so I was happy to see her lash out when he started getting preachy.

公平に言うと、夢佳は大喜が間違ってるとは言ってない。自分のことじゃなければ正しいことを言うのは簡単だって言ったんだ。すごくリアルな感覚だよ。アドバイスするのは簡単だけど、それが正しいって分かっていても、実行するのは難しい

To be fair, she didn't say he was wrong. She said its easy to be right when its not about you. Which is a very real feeling. Its easy to give advice, its harder to follow it even if you know its the correct thing to do.

Taiki learned on this day not to athletesplain to a girl whose slap hits as hard as her words.

前回と今回の冒頭で、夢佳が千夏に自分を重ねて自分の選択を正当化しようとしてたのと同じで、大喜も夢佳に対して同じことをしてた気がする。今の自分より上手い選手がたくさんいるのは大喜も分かってる。無意識のうちに、辞めたほうが楽だって考えたこともたぶんあったはず。それでも覚悟を決めて、うまくなり続けてる。逆の選択をした人を見て、自分の選択を正当化しなきゃって気持ちになったんだろうな

Just like Yumeka was trying to justify her own choices by projecting onto Chinatsu last episode and at the beginning of this one, I feel like Taiki was doing the same with Yumeka. He knows that there are plenty of players better than him right now. Subconsciously, he has probably thought that it would be easier to just quit, but he found his resolve and keeps improving. Seeing someone who made the opposite choice probably made him feel like he had to justify his own.

Haryu was so shocked by that question it looked like he was going to lose his grip on the bar which would fall on his neck.
"Are you afraid of the dentist?" Taiki: "No, I'm afraid of the receptionist."
I wonder if Yumeka quit also because she sees basketball as more of a casual hobby than a competition. At high school level sports get really competitive and it feels like she hated that aspect of it.

Yumeka is reminding me a lot of Aria from The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch right down to personality and personal struggles.

ちびチー、かわいすぎ。千夏の背景や、千夏とバスケの関係がもっと描かれるのはうれしい。主人公二人とも掘り下げられるのはいいことだ。夢佳が大喜をひっぱたいたのはいいと思う。大喜は正しいことを言ってるつもりでも、夢佳のことをまったく知らない。本当の意味でも、個人的にも。会ったこともなくて噂しか聞いたことのない相手について、思い込みだらけで話してる。他人が辞めると決めたことに、頼まれてもない助言をする立場じゃなかった。この先どうなるか楽しみ

Chibi Chi is so cutee. I love that we're getting more background on Chi and her relationship with basketball. Its good for both main characters to be more developed. I like that Yumeka slapped Taiki. Even if he thinks he's saying the right thing, he doesn't know Yumeka at all. Not really, not personally. He's making a lot of assumptions about someone he's never met and only heard things about. It wasn't his place to give unsolicited advice over someone else's decision to quit. Can't wait to see how this works out.

ここで夢佳を褒めてるとまでは言わない。「いいと思う」って言い方は正確じゃなかったかも。大喜は叩かれて当然だった、って感じかな。大喜みたいないい奴だって完璧じゃない。キャラとして深みを出すには、リアルな欠点が要る。知りもしない相手に、分かったような顔で面と向かって頼まれてもない助言をするっていうこの欠点は、大喜らしい。そこから成長できる。結局、この場面で気に入ってるのはそこなんだよ。大喜にこれまでにない摩擦を与えて、人として成長するチャンスを与えてる

I wouldn't say I admire Yumeka here. Maybe like is not accurate. It's more that I think he deserved it. Nice people like Taiki are not infallible; he needs realistic flaws to be a developed character. This particular flaw - giving unsolicited advice about someone who he doesn't know personally right to their face as if he knows better - is a flaw that makes sense for his character. From there, he can grow. And really, that is the heart of what I like about this scene. It's presenting Taiki with friction unlike he's had before and the opportunity to grow as a person.

I dont do sports so i cant say how much pressure and stress they get but she kinda has a point that if you're not part of the elite you're just a bench warmer or a stepping stone for someone else. Cruel reality once it sets in that the world is much bigger than you

It was kinda cute seeing Chinatsu as a kid starting out. Yumeka really helped her a lot during her early years. Is the whole reason she’s being all pissy to Chinatsu because she peaked? Girl finds out there’s always people better than you. Must be a hard pill to swallow when you’re a “prodigy” huh?

I'd guess she started playing early, not thinking a thing about it and spent a long time on it. By the time she joined a team everyone thought she was a prodigy, eventually gets complacent on that. Because of that, when you eventually reach the end of your "head start" and meet people who didn't get complacent, you hit a huge wall, as you never learned to be disciplined or to deal with that kind of failure

夢佳、意地悪すぎて逆にちょっと好きかも。雛に代わって三角関係の次の一角に引きずり込まれる可能性はゼロだな。
カップル呼ばわりされても、千夏も大喜もしどろもどろにならなかったのもいい。あのお約束を避けてくれて助かる

Yumeka is so mean, so much so I kind of appreciate it. Zero chance of her being pulled in as the next leg of the love triangle to replace Hina.
No embarrassed stammering from either Chii or Taiki when she called them a couple either, nice to avoid that trope.

Yumeka's boyfriend probably one of the few guys who can withstand her and knock sense into her without getting slapped for it.

If it weren't for Yumeka inspiring Chinatsu to work hard by practicing early every morning, Taiki probably wouldn't have been enamored with her.

ってことは、夢佳は千夏より大喜のほうがちょっと嫌いなんだな。にらむだけじゃなく、ご自由にってなってるのにテレビを見させないし、スリッパが左右バラバラなのも直させない。

Taiki's reaction to the slap & Chinatsu teasing Taiki during training was funny.
Smol Chinatsu was so cute.
So Yumeka slightly hates Taiki more than Chinatsu. Aside from the glaring, she refuses to let him watch TV even though it's allowed or to correct his mismatched indoor slippers.
At least Yuna got on the team.
I knew both Taiki & Chinatsu would stand for the pregnant lady.
So Taiki saw Yumeka before but didn't know her name.

夢佳は一筋縄ではいかなそう。最後の平手打ちは当然だったと思う。大喜は分かった気になって夢佳に説教できると思ってるけど、そんなに簡単じゃない。夢佳はきっと同じことを何度も何度も考えてきたはずで、後輩が、しかも（夢佳から見れば）嫌いな子の彼氏が、ちょっといい話をしたくらいで抜け出せるわけがない

The sticker prank was the cutest thing ever. This episode!
Yumeka seems to be a hard nut to crack. It feels like the slap in the end was deserved. Taiki thinks he figured it out and is able to hold a lecture to Yumeka, but it's not that easy. She surely has gone through this trail of thought countless times, and some kouhai, who (in her eyes) is even the boyfriend of the girl she hates, won't be able to get her out of this just through some nice speech.

ガツンと刺さる「話術」で、何でも解決できるわけじゃない

予告に出てた平手打ちがついに登場。大喜は自信の無さから、よく知りもしない夢佳にああいう話し方をしちゃったんだけど、大喜は昔からそうなんだよな。何かの理由で入れ込むと、思ったことを抑えられない。
それと今回は「前回みんなを出す時間が無かったから、今回出します」って感じだった。かわいそうな雛まで（自分は千夏派だけど、それでも雛はかわいそうだった）

Also this felt like the "we didn't have time to show everyone last episode so here they are now." Even poor Hina (I'm on team Chinatsu but I still felt bad for Hina).

アオのハコは大好き。誤解しないでほしいんだけど、今期はアニメの見せ方として、話がちょっと急ぎ足な気がする…場面を急いで出してる感じ…それと、肩が触れ合ったと思ったら急にギャグっぽい絵に切り替わるところ…今期はあれをやりすぎてる気がする…構成がしっかりしてない感じ…アオのハコは今まで見たアニメでいちばん好きで、2期も好きなんだけど、1期と同じとは思えない…でも続きが見られるだけでうれしい

I love Blue Box.. dont get me wrong. But this season feels like the story line is kind of rushed in the anime style of showing the anime.. it feels like there rushing to get the scenes out... also the parts where they go into a scene where they touch shoulders and the animation comes out where its a random funny scene.. i feel like there doing that too much this season.. things dont feel structured... Blue Box is my most favorite anime ive ever seen.. and i still like season 2, but i feel like its not as the same as it was season 1.. but im just glad i get to see more.

My favorite part was definitely how convenient and affordable dental healthcare was. That's the dream baby.
I like Yumeka a lot, but specifically because she's so prickly while still being overall decent. She's not inherently a bad person.
I enjoy any time they let us learn more about Chinatsu. Also stickers are part of a healthy diet.

Either way, that slap was very much unwarranted. I like her better with glasses on, even if there was a hint of indirect snarkiness when she told him his slippers were mismatched, can't turn on the TV, or went to the vending machine.
Are medical costs subsidized very well in Japan? That seemed like a very affordable dentist appointment for Taiki.

10代なのは分かるし、話がこの方向に行かないかもしれないけど、もし行くなら、あんまり感心しないな

I really, really despise the trope of:
"Oh my god. This person is clearly far better than I am at [X] thing. I really need to catch up to them!" = Chinatsu
"This person who started [X] thing far later than I did (and who I became close to) caught up to me and is now far better at it than I am! I hate them now!" = Yumeka
I get that they are teenagers, and who knows, the story might not be going down this direction, but if it does, I won't be particularly impressed.
