We are in the second episode and he just stopped her to kill herself. I'm hoping that from now on, things will be fluffier

最初、ティエンを『始末』しようとドクロの瓶に手を伸ばしたときは、冗談だと思ってた。でも、人の命を奪える薬を本当に持っていたんだな…

At first I thought it was a joke when she reached for the potion with the skull on it to "take care" of Tien, but then she actually DID have a potion that can kill someone...

第1話で「おじさん」と呼ばれたがってたから、かなり年上だと思う。恋の相手というより、養女みたいな存在じゃないかな

In episode 1 he said that he wants to be called " Uncle " so I think he is much older than her. She is probably his adoptive daughter rather than a love interest

He wanted to be called an older brother, not an uncle, but Rose told him that he was too old to be considered an older brother to her.

自然で控えめな空気がすごくいい。おかげで二人のゆっくり進む関係と、ロゼの強烈な恋しさが手に取るように伝わってくる

It really has a nice, natural, low-key atmosphere which makes the slow-burn of their relationship (and Rose's hardcore yearning) very palpable.

魔女の大きな秘密が「嘘をつけない」だなんて面白い。ハリージュの前では気をつけないと、自分の気持ちまで口走ってしまいそうだｗ　まあ、それも最悪の展開ではないのかもしれない。彼のほうも間違いなく彼女に気がある。そうでなきゃ、「おいおい、こんな暮らししてんのか？」系の「はあ！？」を彼女に浴びせたりしないよｗ

It’s interesting that the big secret about witches is that they cannot tell lies. Girl might have to be careful around Harij or she’s gonna blurt out her feelings lol. Although maybe that wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen. He’s definitely sweet on her. He wouldn’t have hit her with one of those “damn girl, you live like this?” type “huh!?” if he didn’t lol.

しかも魔女の『魔法』だけが、唯一まかり通る嘘なんだ。説明のつかないほどよく効く薬を作れてしまうおかげで。

Also that the witches' "magic" is the only lie they can get away with because of their inexplicable ability to brew powerful remedies.

このアニメが、思いがけず今期ここまでで一番のお気に入りになったのが嬉しい。

I am loving how this anime has unexpectedly turned into my favorite anime of the season thus far.

二人はもう、かなり仲を深めてる。ハリージュはとてもいい人で、それは前から少しずつ見えていたし、彼女が元気でやっているかも気にかけてる。惚れ薬を作れるのが彼女だからか、問い詰めて追い込みすぎたと分かっているからか、もう少し気になり始めているからか。たぶん、その全部が混ざってる。

They are already bonding big time.
Harij is a very good person which we saw in bits before and he cares about her well-being (may that be because of her being able to do the love potion, him putting too much pressure on her with their confrontation and knowing he messed up and/or him already fancying her a bit). Maybe a mix of those.

ロゼが惚れた良さを、彼が今も持っているのがよく分かる。少しぶっきらぼうな所はあっても（ほとんどは、ロゼに必要な材料を集める苦労のせいだけど）、根は誠実で気高くて思いやりがあって、おまけに颯爽とした男前だ。もう少し肉を付けさせたいというのも、本気でロゼの体を気づかっているんだと思う。

You can definitely see that he still has the same traits Rose fell for. Even if he's a little gruff around the edges (which was mostly just the stress of all the work it takes to get the ingredients Rose needs), he's still sincerely noble and considerate, and dashingly handsome to boot.
I think he genuinely is looking after Rose's physical health in wanting to put some meat on that bones.

それと、自分もだらしないほうだけど、レタスを何日も出しっぱなしにするのは一線を越えてる。あの子は生活を立て直さないと。
ティエンもすごく好きだ。彼女にとって頼れる兄みたいな存在だね。ベトナム風の名前で、服装も東南アジアを思わせるのが面白い。アニメに出てくる「東方から来た商人」はたいてい中国か日本がモデルだから、ベトナムが元になっているのは本当に興味深い。Google によると Tiền は「お金」、Công は「仕事・労働」で、合わせると「賃金・給料」という意味になるらしい。

I really like Tien as well, he's like a reliable older brother to her. I find it interesting as well that he has a Vietnamese name and wears South East Asian inspired attire as well. Generally "traders from the east" in anime are inspired by Chinese or Japanese, so it's really interesting to see Vietnamese inspiration instead. According to Google Tiền means money, and Công means work or labor. And together they mean wage or pay

何でも「魔女だから」で片付けるところが大好きだ

I love how she rationalizes everything with "because I'm a witch."

かなり悲しい話でもある。祖母が亡くなったのを世間が祝っていたくらいで、社会の大半が魔女を嫌い、信用していないことを彼女は知っている。その結果、自分を劣った存在だと見ている。そこへ「魔女は嘘をつけない」という縛りが加わると、普通の社会で暮らすのはとてつもなく難しくなる。そうして出来上がるのが、あのひどく悲しい劣等感なんだ。

It's pretty sad as well. She knows most of society dislikes and distrusts witches as they were celebrating her grandma's death. As a result she sees herself as inferior. Add to that the caveat that witches cannot tell lies which makes it incredibly difficult to live amongst regular society and you get an incredibly sad inferiority complex

ロゼの薬の、ばかみたいに長い名前が正直大好きだ。デオドラントと呼べば済むのに、きっと祖母や先祖代々から受け継いできた名前なんだろうねｗ
冒頭のパートは、ロゼとティエンの関係を見せるのがうまかった。取引だけの関係だと思ってたけど、ロゼの家とティエンの家は昔からの付き合いみたいだ。
それなら、ローブは持ってきたかとロゼに聞かれて、ティエンがあんなに張り切ったのも分かる。ロゼが頼ってくれる日をずっと待ってたんだろう。いつかロゼの祖母が、自分が亡くなったらあの子を見守ってやってくれと、ティエンと彼の父親に頼んでいたとしても驚かない。要するにあの場面はまるごと、ティエンおじさんが、姪っ子同然のロゼの世話を焼いていたわけだ。
金糸の刺繍が入ったあの緑のローブは本当に素敵だった。この回のあとも、黒いのじゃなくてあれを着続けてほしい。そしてティエンに化粧品をもらったのに、この子はやっぱり頬をつねるんだよな。
ああもう、この子は。あれが前回かじってたのと同じレタスじゃないと言ってくれ。ロゼの食事がレタスと、町に出た時に手に入る食べ物だけだと聞いたら、自分だってハリージュと同じ顔になるよ。
ハリージュに掴まれた時、ロゼが心の声を全部口に出さなかったのが正直意外だ！それに、そこまでガリガリじゃないよ！いや、細いのは細いけど、骨と皮だけには見えない。
ロゼはもう得意顔の鹿が鐘を鳴らすのに慣れてしまって、ハリージュが訪ねてくるなんて考えもしなかったみたいだ。彼は前の晩に彼女の食事を知って、間違いなく食べ物を持ってきたんだなｗ
あーあ、やっちゃった。ロゼは完全にしくじったけど、名前で呼んでしまうのは時間の問題だったと思う。不意の訪問で動揺していたんだから特に。そして魔女の秘密を口走るという、もっと大きなしくじり。
あの場面のロゼは見ていて本当に気の毒だった。追い詰められすぎて、ハリージュに気持ちを知られないためなら命を絶ってもいいと思うほどだったんだ。家に駆け込む前のロゼの目つきに、ハリージュが気づいてくれて本当によかった。
ハリージュがロゼの秘密を人に話す心配はあまりしてない。ただ、彼は責任を取るべきだよな、言いたいことは分かるだろ。( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
やっぱり食べ物を持ってきてた！食べる前にまずロゼに片付けさせるのが笑える。残ったほこりまで確かめるんだから！ハリージュがまたこうして朝に来た時のために、ロゼは本当に片付けを覚えたほうがいい。
うわあああ。パンを食べるロゼが可愛すぎる！それにハリージュのあの見つめ方！あの視線には絶対それ以上の何かがある！

I honestly love the ridiculously long names of Rose's remedies. She could've just called it deodorant but I guess these remedy names have been passed on to her from her grandma and their ancestors. xD
That first part of the episode was great at showing us Rose and Tien's relationship I thought their relationship was purely transactional, but it sounds like Rose's family and Tien's family have been friends for a while now.
That would explain why Tien was so excited when Rose asked him if he brought any robes. He must've been waiting for the day when Rose would rely on her. I wouldn't be surprised if, at some point, Rose's grandma asked Tien and his father to watch over her when she finally passes away. Basically, that entire scene was Uncle Tien taking care of his adoptive niece. <3
That green robe with golden thread embroidery was really nice. I'm really hoping that after this episode, Rose will continue wearing that instead of the black one. And of course the girl still pinches her cheeks after Tien bought him some makeup.
Oh my god, this girl, please tell me that's not the same lettuce she was munching on last episode. And even I'd make the same face Harij did after hearing that Rose's diet consists of nothing but lettuce and whatever food she gets when she's in town.
I'm honestly surprised Rose didn't start vocalizing all of those out when Harij grabbed her! Also, she's not that skinny! I mean, she is, but she doesn't look like she's just skin and bones.
It looks like Rose is now used to the smug deer ringing her bell didn't even consider Harij would show up to visit her. The dude definitely brought her food after learning what she ate the previous night. xD
Well, s**t. Rose really f****d up there, but I suppose calling him by name was bound to happen, especially since she was caught off guard by his visit. And an even bigger f**k up with her blurting out the witch's secret.
I really felt bad watching Rose during that scene. She's so backed into a corner that she was willing to commit suicide just so Harij won't learn how she feels about him. Thank f*****g god Harij recognized the look Rose had in her eyes before bolting back into her house.
I'm not really worried about Harij telling people about Rose's secret. Dude should take responsibility tho if you know what I mean. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
So he did bring food! It is hilarious how Harij makes Rose clean up first before eating. Dude even checks for leftover dust! Rose really needs to learn how to clean up after herself, just in case Harij comes back in the morning again like this.
OH MY GOD. ROSE LOOKS SO ADORABLE WHILE EATING BREAD! And look at the way Harij stares at her! There's clearly more to that stare!

Was she genuinely about to kill herself? Harij has his work cut out for him, starting from getting her some self-esteem. At least now they'll probably be meeting more than once a month.

嘘をつけないと知られたら、問い詰めて秘密を全部しゃべらせるのが簡単になる。たとえば、魔法の仕組み。狙った効果を出すには、どの薬が向いているか。彼女の仕事のうち、魔法を使えない人でも作れるものはどれか。

If people know you can't lie it's easier to press her to tell all the her secrets like:
- How to her magic works
- Which potions are more suitable for getting an specific outcome.
- Which of the things she does can be made by a non-magical person.

ロゼとハリージュが互いを知っていく、いい進展だった。「気になる相手の入浴中に鉢合わせる」というお約束の、わりと可愛いひねり方でもあった。
ロゼがハリージュの素性を知っていること、そして彼女がそれについて嘘をつけないと彼が知ったことは、いずれ問題や波乱の種になりそうだ。彼がなぜ惚れ薬を必要としているのかは分からないけど、身元を隠していることが、その事情の大事な部分だったのかもしれない。ロゼへの接し方や、祖母についてのあの会話からすると、彼はいいやつだと信じたい。でも、こうしたこと全部が、彼女を脅かすことになるかもしれない。
とはいえ今週の彼は、ロゼが命を絶とうとするのを止めて、おいしいパンとりんごバターまで持ってきた。その基準なら、もうプラスなのかも。
あの商人のロゼへの接し方もいい。彼の一家は長年、ロゼによくしてくれていたみたいだ。

Good progress on Rose and Harij getting to know each other better. Relatively cute twist on the 'walking in on your potential romantic interest while they're bathing' trope, too.
I could see Rose knowing who Harij is and him knowing she can't lie about it potentially causing some problems or drama eventually. We don't know why he needs that love potion, but his identity being secret might have been an important part of whatever's going on. Based on how he's acted towards Rose and that conversation about her grandmother I want to believe he's a good dude, but all this could end up being a threat to her.
On the other hand he's stopped her from killing herself this week and brought her some tasty bread and apple butter so maybe he's already positive on that metric.
I like how the merchant dude is treating Rose, sounds like his family in general have been quite good to her over the years.

ハリージュが、悪意は無いし、嘘をつけないことを彼女に不利なようには使わないと誓うなら、自分は信じる。惚れ薬が必要な理由を除けば、彼女に対してできる限りまっすぐ正直でいるように見えるから、なおさらだ。

Some girls say they can't get married after getting caught naked, some girls would rather do anything than confess their feelings, Rose straight up tries to kill herself...
I feel like if Harij swears he has no ill intentions or doesn't intend to use her inability to lie against her, I believe him. Especially since he seems to be as straight and honest with her as he can be minus the reason why he needs a Love Potion.

追い詰められた人を見分けられるっていうのは、ちょっと心配になる…

it does concern me how he was able to recognize people that are backed into a corner.....

ロゼは本当に面白すぎる。ハリージュに気持ちを伝えるくらいなら、命を絶つほうを選ぶんだから。彼が最初に彼女を知ったのがいつなのかも気になる。4年前から覚えられていたことに驚いていたから、あの頃を覚えているのは自分だけだと思っていたように聞こえた。

Rose is absolutely hilarious 😂 she’d rather kill herself than tell Harij her feelings. Also I’m so curious as to when he first heard/met her as well. Since he seems shocked she remembers him from 4 years ago so sounds like he thought only he remembered her from that time.

ものすごく恥ずかしいことがあると、すぐ切腹しようとするキャラを思い出した。

Reminded me of those characters who jump to seppuku over something really embarrassing.

彼女が取り乱したのは、自分の気持ちのことだけじゃないと思う。守らないといけない危険な秘密を明かしてしまったせいもある。自分だけでなく、魔女みんなに関わる秘密だから。

I don't think her panic was just about her own feelings, it was also about having revealed a dangerous secret she was supposed to keep (not only on her own behalf but on behalf of all witches).

本当にいいアニメ！甘すぎてもう糖尿病になりそうだけど、それが最高！❤️

魔法と引き換えに嘘をつけなくなるという設定は、正直、天才的な世界観づくりだ。これでこの作品は必見になった

Honestly, the fact that witches gain magic in exchange for not being able to lie is a genius bit of worldbuilding that made this show a must watch for me.

しかも魔女の魔法の描き方として、大方の予想よりずっとシンプルなのによく効いてる

And it's a much simple but effective means of expressing magic than most probably would expect from witches.

あれが明かされた時は、ちょっと衝撃だった…

That revelation was a bit of a stunner....

ハリージュがロゼに母親みたいに接するのが、ほほえましかった。ロゼ、ちゃんと食べてないだろう。きちんと片付けなさい。食事はテーブルで食べなさい。
それでもやっぱり、魔女が嘘をつけないというのは怖い。真実をうまく操ることはできる、というのは好きなんだけど、どんな場面に出くわしても文字どおり嘘がつけないと想像してみてほしい。まあ、少なくともハリージュはいい人だ。
話は変わるけど、ティエンはロゼにとって、あの変わり者のおじさんみたいな存在だね。うっとうしいけど、ちゃんと家族という感じがする。

Hariji acting very mom-like with Rose was sweet. You aren't eating enough Rose. You need to clean up properly. You need to eat at the dinner table.
Still all things considered the witches are not being able to lie is scary. Like I do like they can still manipulate the truth, but imagine all the scenarios you enter and you literally can't lie. Well at least Hariji is a good person.
On another note Tien is like that weird uncle for Rose. He feels annoying but really feels like family.

この作品、本当に楽しくて可愛い。『スーパーの裏でヤニ吸うふたり』が残していった穴を埋めてくれてる

This show is so fun and cute. It's filling the void that smoking behind the supermarket left behind.

このアニメを見ていると、なぜか目がうるんでくる。笑える場面もたくさんあるのに、胸を締めつけられるんだ。ロゼの人生はとても苦しかったのに、彼女は見返りをほとんど期待していない。その彼女がほんのひとかけらの幸せを手にして、うまく受け止めきれずにいる。りんごバターに感謝だ。りんごバターをたっぷり塗ったパンを食べる彼女を、きっとみんなハリージュと同じくらい楽しんで眺めていたはずだ。

Watching this show makes me misty-eyed for some reason. Even though it has plenty of comic moments, the show seems to wring my heart. Rose's life has been so hard -- and she expects so little reward. The fact that she is getting a smidgen of happiness, and has trouble processing it. Thank heaven's for apple butter. I am sure we all loved watching her bread slathered with apple butter as much as Harij did.

今期は、食べ物の場面が本当に楽しい季節になりそうだ。『アオのハコ』は第1話に、とんでもないアップルパイが出てきたし（フォークを入れたら皮がサクッと鳴るほどの）、今度はりんごバターのパンだ。

Seems like this might be a season for really enjoyable food moments. Blue Box had an absurd apple pie in episode 1 (that even crunched when he forked through the crust) and now the bread with apple butter.

材料集めの手順を、わざと一つ残らず面倒にしてからかうのはまだ分かる。でも距離が縮まった直後に、ロゼがハリージュへ遠慮なく皮肉を言えるくらい気を許していたのが面白かった。
ロゼには本当にマーケティングの才能があるのかもしれない。だって、りんごバターをあんなにおいしそうに見せたんだから。

Playfully making every step of the ingredient gathering process as tedious as possible on purpose was one thing but it was funny how Rose felt comfortable enough be more direct with her snark to Harij right after they grew closer.
Rose might actually have a talent for marketing because man did she make the apple butter look good.

getting strong Akagami no Shirayuki-hime vibes.

ここまで見た「新作」の恋愛ものの中では、これがかなり好きだ。主役のロゼとハリージュには実在感があって、二人の相性の良さは見ていて本当に気持ちいい。これと『ホタルの嫁入り』以外は、まあまあか、いまひとつだった。

Out of the "new" romance shows that I've watched so far, I like this one a lot. The main couple Rose and Hraij feel more real and the chemistry between them is really great to see. Besides this and Firefly Wedding, the others were either just okay or meh.

どう見ても、薬はロゼのためのものだ。ただハリージュは、4年前に見た子、あるいは町でときどき見かける子が、魔女のロゼだとは知らない。彼からすれば、あのピンクの髪の子に恋をしたものの、相手のことを何も知らないから、惚れ薬に頼ることにしただけなんだ。
そんなもの必要ないって、彼が知ってさえいればなあ。

Obviously, the potion is for Rose. However, Harij does not know that the girl he saw 4 years ago or the girl he seen occasionally in town is the witch, rose. From his perspective, he fell in love with that pink-haired girl, and given that he doesn't know anything about her, he just resorted to use a love potion.
If he only knew that he doesn't really need it.

もし町で見かけたロゼに恋をしたのだとしたら、昼の光の下で彼女を見た今、同じ人だと気づく可能性はあるのかな？
水浴びと洗濯を済ませている最中に誰か来るって、絶対そうなると思ってた……

If he did fall in love with Rose when he spied her in town, is there a chance he can recognize her now that he has seen her in day light?
I just KNEW someone would come while she was finsishing her bathing/clothes washing....

今期の恋愛アニメのほかのヒロインと比べても、ロゼはかなりいいほうだと思う。ちゃんと個性があって、彼女なりの癖があって、ほかより奥行きがある。たとえば『弱気MAX令嬢なのに、辣腕婚約者様の賭けに乗ってしまった』のピアより、ずっと好きだ。ロゼと比べると、ピアはひとりのキャラクターというより可愛いペットに近く感じる。愛らしく描かれてはいるけど、それ以上の個性が物足りないし、古植物学という要素も背景の雑音みたいになっている。一方ロゼは、良い魔女として見ていて本当に面白い。特にハリージュの前での振る舞いがそう（第1話でキャベツを食べるところは爆笑した）。ただ可愛くて、男主人公に溺愛され守られるためだけにいるわけじゃない。そこがいい。愛らしいのは結構だけど、それに見合う個性のあるヒロインのほうがいい。
それと、次回以降に得意顔の鹿がまた出てくることを心から願ってる！

compared to other female leads in romance anime this season, Rose is one of the better ones imo. she actually has a personality, her own quirksand more nuance. I like her much more than, for example, Pia from Even Though I'm a Super Timid Noble Girl, I Accepted the Bet From My Cunning Fiance. Compared to Rose, Pia feels more like a cute pet than an actual character. She's made/presented adorable but I find her lacking in personality beyond that and the paleobotany aspect of her character feels more like background noise .Rose, on the other hand, is genuinely entertaining to watch as a Good Witch especially with how she acts around Harij (her eating the cabbage in episode 1 was hilarious). She's not just there to be cute and make the male lead dote and protect on her and I appreciate that. being adorable is fine but I'd rather have a female lead with some actual personality to go along with it.
Also, really hoping the smug deer returns in next episodes!
