俺もティエンは嫌い。でも、ドラマのためのドラマだったとは思わない。魔女ってだけで爪はじきにされてきたのは分かってたけど、今回その証拠が出て、子どもから大人まで世間にどれだけ偏見が根付いてるかを見せられた。

I dislike Tien too.
I don't think that it was drama for drama sake.
We know witches have been ostracized just for being witches. Now we got proof of that and they showed us how ingrained that disdain is in the common populace, from kids to adults.

Well yeah it's a shoujo what do you expect.
It's like watching shounen and complaing about power ups, it's part of the game.
That doesn't excuse it though, for sure, but at least it makes SOME sense in this anime.
It's not just the usual "shy girl".
There is a reason why she behaves so moody and distant

いやー、今回でハリージュがもっと好きになった。あの生意気なガキを湖に沈めるって脅したから、ってだけじゃないぞ。村人たちをきっちり正したのがいい。
あいつらの恐れと無知のせいで、ロゼだけじゃなく、ばあちゃんまでひどい扱いを受けてきたんだ。少なくとも、ロゼをあんな風に扱わない人が何人か増えたな。

Man, I like Harij even more this episode and it’s not just because he threatened to drown that one little brat lol. He really set those villagers straight. Their fear and ignorance led to such poor treatment of not just Rose but her grandma too. At least now, there are a few more people who won’t be treating her so poorly.

I was worried they were about to ransack her hut while Rose was out shopping.
If those children truly believe Rose is a witch, trying to knock her into the lake would be considered a murder attempt.

ハリージュは、ロゼにとって気持ちの面でも評判の面でも、今までで最高の出来事だよ。

Harij is the best thing to ever happen to Rose, both emotionally and to her reputation.

ロゼの扱いがひどいのは間違いない。でも、子どもたちの奇襲に本人がきょとんとしてるのがマヌケすぎて、真顔じゃ見られなかった。
ハリージュの振る舞いも言葉も本当に優しかった。でも正直いちばん感心したのは、騎士の訓練だか何だかのおかげで、あの人数の子どもをすくい上げて、しかもあんなに長く抱えてられたことだ。

There's no underselling how awful Rose was treated but her own bewilderment at the kids' ambush was just too goofy to end the scene with a straight face lol.
All of Harij's gestures and sentiments were really sweet but tbh I'm most impressed at how his knightly training or whatever helped him scoop up that many kids, let alone hold them for that long.

この作品の世界観の作り込み、Sランクだろ。魔女がなぜああなのかを、キャラ付けでここまで描いてくるとは正直思ってなかった。「魔女は嘘をつけない」みたいなシンプルな根本ルールが、キャラの行動の理由にまで染み込んでる。そんな作品、今まで観たのも読んだのも他に無い

the lore building of this show is S-tier. I honestly did not expect this show to put the effort on adding characterization on why witches are how they are.
there is no other IP I've watched or read that came up with such a simple fundamental principle (Witches can't tell a lie) that bleeds into why a character behaves the way they do like this show does.

今期は新作をけっこう楽しんでるけど、この作品の脚本はほかとは格が違うと思う。間違いなく『サイレント・ウィッチ』級の話の運びだ

I enjoiy quite a few new shows this season, but I think the writing for this one is in a whole different class from those others. Definitely Silent Witch level story telling.

ここまで色々あって、ロゼはもうハリージュに迷惑をかけたくないし、起きたことで落ち込みすぎてる気がする。薬の完成をあれだけ引き延ばしてたのを考えるとな……。正直、今回のいくつかのシーンはマジで泣きそうになった

And after all this, i feel like Rose doesn't want to burden Harij anymore and is too saddened by what happened. Knowing how adamant she was delaying the completion of the potion...
Not gonna lie, the scenes in this episode almost made me sob.

子どもたちとのやり取りは、見ててちょっとハラハラした。親まで引っ張ってきた時は特にな。ハリージュがいてよかった。あいつらが無視できない、武装した権力側の人間としてな。

That encounter with the children started to make me a bit nervous, especially when they pulled their parents in. Good thing Harij was there to be the armed force of authority they couldn't ignore.

「ティエン兄さん」というより「ティエンおじさん」だな。実はロゼの本当の父親か、ロゼの母親の親友で、ロゼの「保護者」になると約束したかのどっちかだと、まだ思ってる

More "Uncle" Tien than "Big Brother" Tien. I still think he is either Rose's actual father or that he was her mother's BFF and promised to be Rose's "guardian".

Yep, within the first 2 minutes of this I thought that he's actually Rose's father.

長い目で見れば、あの商人がロゼを魔女だと知ったのは案外役に立つかもしれない。ティエン以外にも、ロゼの品を売ってくれる相手になり得るから。
あの場に出てくる大人として、ちょうどいい人だったのは確かだ。ハリージュを除けば、町でいちばんロゼと関わってるみたいだし。ロゼが薬の材料を買ってることも知ってるから、悪い魔女じゃないって話も通りやすい

In the longer term that merchant learning that Rose is a witch might actually be relatively useful since he could potentially be a reseller of her goods aside from Tien.
He was definitely a convenient adult to show up. Outside of Harij he has interacted with her more than anyone in town it seems. He also knows she buys medicinal items, which makes the idea that she's not a bad witch an easier sell.

ハリージュ、体を洗わせるためにほぼ家に呼んでるようなもんだろ、信じられん……。でもロゼは、いくら嬉しくても、頬に触れた手の感触が心地よくても、もう彼の優しさに頼り続けるわけにはいかない。身分のせいで二人の間には何も起きようがないし、ロゼは最初から期限があるのを分かってた。惚れ薬を仕上げたら、もう二度と会えない。それでも彼の優しい言葉と行動が、この先のロゼを支えていくんだろうな

I can’t believe Harij was basically asking her over to his place so she could wash up…but she can’t keep relying on his kindness, much as she enjoys it and the feel of his hand on her cheek. Because nothing can happen between them because of their statuses, and Rose always knew they had a timetable. She’s going to finish the Love Potion, she’ll never see him again, but his kind words and actions will be able to keep her going.

薬を持って帰ったあと、彼が初めて訪ねてきたら、ロゼめちゃくちゃ驚くだろうな

She's going to be so damn surprised the first time he comes to visit after he leaves with the love potion, lol

終盤のやり取りも笑えた。「この家に風呂はあるか？」って、ハリージュ、お前2話でロゼが湖で水浴びしてるとこに出くわしてるだろ。答えは知ってるはずだぞ！ あれでロゼの顔が真っ赤にならなかったのが意外だった

The exchange near the end was pretty funny as well: "do you have a bathtub?" Harij, you already caught her bathing in the lake in episode 2, you should know the answer to that question! I'm surprised Rose's face didn't turn beet red at that...

I mean his choice of words of daughter is much more than he has seen Rose grow up. In a way it feels like a father-daughter relationship. Without it literally being one.

and just like a real father he sets unrealistic work expectations, but he won't be angry if you can't meet them just disappointed

薬草屋のおっちゃんにはマジでガッカリした。ロゼが一番のお得意さんの一人だって気づかずに、すぐ自分の子を叱らなかったんだから。まあ、学んだのかな？

I was really disappointed in our herb grocer guy for not realizing Rose is one of his best customers and immediately calling his kid to task, but I guess he learned?

i do like that he didn't flash his name and title to convince them, but rather made an argument for treating a human like a human
though he was carrying a sword on his hip so i think they got a hint anyways

Yeah, this ended up escalating waaaaay more than I expected! Although it turned out to be a blessing because, thanks to Harij intervening, he finally got to set the record straight and let these people know what Rose actually does. And since he's clearly a Royal Knight, it definitely makes him more credible.

日本で西洋のおとぎ話が知られ始めたのは、明治時代からだろうな。ディズニーの映画やミュージカルでさらに定着した。アニメに出てくるおとぎ話はシンデレラだけじゃないよ

European fairy tale awareness would have really begun in the Meiji era. Disney movies/musicals would have reinforced this. Other fairy tales show up in anime, not just Cinderella.

ちびロゼも若いティエンもマジでかわいい。でも今のロゼは、ティエンにしかめっ面ばっかりで完全に反抗期だな

Little Rose and younger Tien are really adorable. She’s now going through her rebellious phase the way she keeps scowling at Tien though. Lol

魔女への誤解が少しは解けてきたみたいでよかった。あと、ハリージュがあの子どもたちに必要なお灸を据えてくれたのもいい。

Glad to see some of the misunderstanding about wishes is being dealt with. Also nice to he Harij give those brats the discipline they needed.

ハリージュは本物の騎士らしくロゼを守った。これでますます好きになった！ 子どもたちだけじゃなく、その親までビシッと正したのもよかった。
それに、話はさらに面白くなりそうだ。ハリージュにもう来てもらわないために、ロゼがついに惚れ薬を完成させたからな……。まあ、それでも彼が通ってきたら、絶対びっくりするだろうけど（笑）

Harij defended Rose in this episode as befits a true knight, and now I like him even more! Good to see that he straightened up not only those kids, but their parents as well.
And it looks like things will become even more interesting, since Rose finally finished making the love potion in order to make Harij stop coming... Well, she'll surely be surprised when he continues visiting her nonetheless, lol.

I love how Rose was already sharp-tongued towards Tien then. I hope that we'll be able to see her like that in relation to Harij soon too, lol.

He invited her to his house for a bath! I can't even.
Those freaking kids! And bad parents..im glad Harij scolded everyone.

Can't help but think he'd been looking for excuses to bring her back to his place. Guess those kids were nearly good for something lol.

and he did it in such a great way that everyone got the message. What a man!

子どもたちにはちょっとイラッとした。ただ、この回は子どもの振る舞いが親とつながってることをよく描いてたと思う。子どもが悪さをしたのに、親はその責任をロゼに押しつけてた。
ハリージュは、みんながロゼを理解できるだけのことを言ってくれた。ロゼが嘘をつけないって知られたら、それはそれで面倒なことになるだろうけど。それでも、ロゼのしてることが自分たちの役に立っていて、害は無いって分かってもらえれば十分なはず。ロゼが今まで町の人を説得しようとしなかった理由も分かる。悲しいけど、世間の思う魔女像は本当の魔女とは違うからな。何から話せばいいんだよ、って話だ

I was a bit annoyed with the kids. I do have to say that this episode does showcase how the behavior of kids can be tied to the parents. Simply when their kids did wrong they deflected the blame on Rose.
Harij told them enough for them to understand Rose. No doubt if people knew Rose couldn't lie, that could be problematic. But as long as they understand what she does benefits them and does not hurt them, it should be enough. Granted I do understand why Rose never tried to convince the people before because sadly what people perceive as what a witch is is not what it is truly. How would you even start?

ハリージュが親たちまで叱り始めたとこ、よかったよな。子どもは「魔女は厄介者だ」っていう大人の空気を感じ取って、子どもなりの浅はかさで勝手に動いちゃうんだよ
なんだかんだ言って、人里離れて暮らす魔女って、人見知りの在宅職人とそう変わらない。説明しにくい仕事をしてて、どこの誰とも知らない連中に、なぜか人間以下みたいに見られる。ロゼの立場に共感できる人は多いと思う

i did like that bit where Harij started scolding the parents too; kids pick up on the vibes of the adults in thinking the witch is trouble and in their naive ways take things into their own hands
all in all, being a hermetic witch is not too far away from being a shy work-from-home artisan, so i think a lot of people can relate to being in Rose's position with having a hard-to-explain job and random scrubs thinking you're somehow less than human

ロゼがもう薬を完成させた以上、来週どうなるか気になる。ハリージュとの縁を切るのか、それともハリージュのほうから、客と魔女以上の関係になろうと動くのか。
和やかだった場面が一転して重くなった。魔女そのものに偏見を持つ大人たちのせいで、ロゼが子どもたちから差別を受けたからな

Interesting what happens next week given that Rose has already completed the potion. Will she break ties with Harij or will Harij try to initiate connection beyond that of a customer and a witch?
That light moment became heavy as Rose faced discrimination from kids due to adults who have negative biases against witches in general.

ロゼ「ついにハリージュ様に惚れ薬を渡した……もう二度と会うことはない。これでいい。受け入れなきゃ……」
（翌日）
ハリージュ「魔女様、またパンを持ってきました！」
ロゼ「はああああ！？」

Rose: "I've finally given Lord Harij the love potion...I'll never see him again. This is for the best. I have to accept that..."
(The next day)
Harij: "Lady Witch, I'm back with more bread!"
Rose: "huhhhhh!?"

あとリンゴのデザートもな！

あの生意気なガキをハリージュが湖に放り込むのを、回のあいだずっと待ってた。親にも責任を取らせたのはよかった。ガキどもがどこからああいう考えを仕入れたか、ハリージュは分かってたんだ。
あとはロゼが、夢はもう叶ってるって気づけばな。ちゃんとした彼女として、奥さんとして、彼のマントにずっとしがみついていられるのに

I was waiting the whole episode for Harij to toss that little brat into the lake. Nice to see him hold the parents accountable. Harik knew where them kids got those ideas.
Now if only Rose would realize her dream has already come true, she could hold onto his coat forever like a proper girlfriend and wife

ロゼが惚れ薬をさっさと仕上げることにしてくれて、正直よかった。彼が来るのは薬のためだけで、それを誰かに使うつもりだとロゼが思い込んでるうちは、二人の関係が大きく進むことはないからな。薬ができた今、そういう誤解が早く解けるといいな

I'm actually glad she decided to finish the love potion quickly, there really can't be any big progress in their relationship while she still thinks he's only there to get the potion and that he wants to use it on someone. Now that it's ready those misunderstandings can hopefully be cleared up soon.

まさか薬がもう完成するとは。残りをあまり引き延ばさないでほしい。次の回で、ロゼが何らかの形で薬の使い道を知って、残りは王女が幸せになれるよう、ロゼとハリージュが二人で別の解決策を探す話になるといいな

Surprisingly the potion is already complete, I hope they dont draw out the rest too much. I'm hoping that next ep, Rose will somehow find out what the potion is for, and then the rest of the show is Rose and Harij working together to come up with an alternative solution so the Princess will be happy.

偏見って、最初はきっかけなんて無いことが多いんだよな。人は知らないものをただ怖がって、その怖さが憎しみに変わる。それでも、この世界で魔女がやった最悪のことって何なんだろうとは思ってしまう。たぶん何も無いか、せいぜい魔女じゃない誰かの依頼を受けたら、そいつがそれを悪用したってくらいなんだろうけど

Theres often no initial cause for bigotry, people simply fear the unknown and that fear turns to hatred. I still find myself wondering what the worst thing a witch has done in this world to cause this though, even though its probably nothing or at worst fulfilling a request for a non witch who used it for evil.

あと、あいつらをちょっと手荒に扱ってたのも好き（笑）
まあ少なくとも子どもたちは心から謝ったし、親たちもこれからはロゼにちゃんと接してくれそうだ
これでロゼのことを好意的に見てくれる人が増えて、友達もできるといいな

Medieval Detective Boys seriously f****d up today.

ハリージュは今期でも指折りのキャラだと思う。怒ってたのに冷静さは崩さずに、子どもたちと親たちをきちんと諭してた。

Harij is probably one of the best characters this season. He was angry but kept is cool and educated the kids and their parents properly.
