このアニメとは付き合い方が難しい。妙に落ち着く時もあれば、やたら苛つく時もある。田山は色っぽいけどな。あとアニメで現実の会社勤めを見るのも嫌いだ。現実で嫌というほど味わってる。あんなものは人間扱いしない場所だ。総合10点満点で6.5点、見て損はない

I've got a difficult relationship with this anime, at times it's surprisingly comfy, other times very frustrating. Tayama is hot though.
I also hate seeing real office jobs in anime, I hate them enough in real life, dehumanizing environments the whole of them.
Overall 6.5/10, a decent watch.

山田が参っているのは、店に来たあの男と何か因縁があるからだ。そこはまだ説明されていない。彼のそばにいる緊張をどうにかやり過ごそうとして、働きすぎて仕事で失敗した
それが職場の全員にどう響くかを考えずにやったから、大野にまで影響が出た。だから大野は、感情を溜め込んで仕事もできていない山田を、子どもみたいだと叱った
あとの二人が参っているのは、彼女を助けられなかったからだ。佐々木と店長は、今の時点では全く参っていない

Yamada is upset because she has some history with that guy who came to her store, which is still not explained. She tried to work through the stress of being around him and it caused her to overwork herself and f**k up at work. She did this without thinking about how it'd impact everyone else at work, so this impacted Oono who went off on Yamada for acting like a child by bottling up her feelings and being incompetent.
The other two are upset because they couldn't help her. Sasaki and the manager are not upset remotely right now.

Yamada was being an idiot, oono blew up at her for pulling her bullshit, Maezawa spilled the secret that Onoo's retiring, Yamada's still being an idiot and learned nothing, and now the hint that she might be jeopardizing not only her promotion prospects but maybe even her job outright with this chapter

Well, it's getting near some kind of ending. I don't quite see it going back to the old formula at this point, so it's really just wrapping things up between the two, figuring out the Noma s**t, and advancing the relationship.

漫画のお約束の中で、一番嫌いなやつだ。関係が進む話を書くのがそんなに難しいのか。実は私は、のほうが九十九パーセントのラブコメよりうまくやってた。

This is probably my most hated trope in all of manga. How hard is it to write about relationship development? I mean hell, Jitsu Wa did it better than 99% of all romcoms.

公平に言えば、原作はずっとこれを積み上げてきた。田山の偽物のクールさと薄っぺらい大人らしさ、佐々木の本物のダサさと頼れる大人らしさ。その対比だ。

To be fair this is just what the manga has been builing on with Tayama's fake cool and weak maturity vs Sasaki's real lame and reliable maturity

現実は知らん。唯一こっちに見込みをくれた女は、二か月も音信不通のあと急に連絡してきて、謝りもせず、どうせ職場でやるイベントに誘ってきた。まだ返してない。忙しいから日を改めろと言いたい。

I wouldn't really know IRL, the only girl who gave me a shot ghosted me for 2 months, wrote out of the blue without even trying to apologize giving me an invite to a thing that was going to happen anyway where she works.
Still haven't replied, want to tell her I am busy and to reschedule for another day.

Anime watcher here, just looking at the manga, it's actually hot garbage isn't it...should have been a tight story but it just meanders into nonsense and crap.

It was fitting this ended with them sharing a smoke behind the supermarket together, Tayama/Yamada in an impractical (but sexy) outfit for the cold, just shooting the breeze about Hokkaido and crabs.
Because it's that low-key comfort and dialogue that helped sell the show and sold how well these two get along.

The kind of show that you wish would go on forever. Delightful moments from start to finish.

These are my fav types of SoL shows.

「知り合い以上、恋人未満」。佐々木が自分と山田の関係をそう言い表したのが見事だった。しょっちゅう喋っているのに、お互いまだ知らないことだらけっていう、妙な位置にいる二人なんだ

More than an acquaintance, but not lovers.
Sasaki aptly described his relationship with Yamada. They’re in a weird spot where they chatted on a regular basis, but still had a lot to learn about the other. Having said that, they’re also in a position where they could support the other, such as Yamada 'encouraging' Sasaki to go have a drink with his old senior.
A subdued finale, but it's a fitting tone for a show about two people chatting and relaxing over a smoke. I’ll really miss this show, along with the cast – the teasing master Yamada and the pure puppy Sasaki.

そこまで行っていないにしても、山田のほうはもう完全に惚れていて、佐々木の話を聞いて支えているだけで幸せ、って段階に入ってると思う

I feel like even if they're not at that stage yet Yamada is definitely in that phase where she's head over heels and just enjoys listening to/supporting Sasaki in their relationship.
Like look at how happy she was to see him at the end! That's love.

Suzuki is such a good dude, trying to push Sasaki towards doing the right thing and meeting up with his old mentor in Hokkaido by pushing his own business trip there onto Sasaki. Ofcourse he also just didn't want to go, but still
Really enjoyed this anime. There wasn't much relationship development, but honestly this particular fornat didn't really need it. The story is more of a break from your daily stress, talking with someone you have a genuine connection with. And that's all it really needed. Ofcourse I would have been happy with more development, but I'm not dissapointed either

This man will forego/trade any business trip that's too much of a hassle/takes him away from his family but he's still a bro for it!

良い最終回だった。山田が佐々木の背中を押して、昔の先輩に会わせたのが嬉しい。あの二人の関係を何と呼べばいいのかは自分にも分からないけど、彼にとって大事な人であることは間違いない。2期でその先が見たい

This was a nice finale. I’m glad Yamada pushed Sasaki to see his former senpai. Idk how I’d label their relationship either, but she certainly is someone who’s important to him. I hope we get another season so we can see more of these two. I don’t even smoke anymore but the there’s something kind of relaxing watching them chill behind the supermarket for a smoke.

「巻いて」。あれ、今までで一番大胆な山田じゃないか？　しかも噛まずに言い切った。そのあとタバコに火を点けてやるのも、喫煙者同士だとほとんど口説き文句みたいなものだ

"Put it on me." Damn is this the most bold Yamada's been yet? And he even did it without stammering!
She also lit his cigarette for him after which is practically foreplay for smokers.

「人間関係も内面も全然進展してない」なんて言う人がいるんだよな

And some people think there was hardly any personal or relationship growth!

最初は昔の上司との場面をやらずに終わるのかと不安だった。佐々木のあの大失敗が、上司が目を失った原因なんじゃないかとも思っている

原作ものんびり読める作品だったけど、アニメは深夜に見るのにちょうどよかった。空気の作り方が完璧で、とくに田山の声と佇まいがいい。想像していた通りの人だった

The manga was already a relaxing read but the anime was perfect for a late night watch. They really nailed the atmosphere, especially Tayama's voice and her whole character. It was really just like you imagined her to be while reading it. If I'm correct the episode adapted ch. 28(end of vol.3) so you can continue reading there if you're interested. 64 chapters are out. I hope they continue adapting this.

山田／田山の服、落ち着いた色気のある声、軽口、脚、そして仕事に疲れたサラリーマンを手玉に取る手際——全部が恋しくなる

I will miss the Yamada/Tayama outfits, soothing and sensual voice, sass, legs, and ability to masterfully tease an overworked office drone she can't get enough of.

最終回について言うと、佐々木が2週間以上来なくて落ち込んでる山田が最高だった。あそこまで引きずるのかと笑った。完全に禁断症状だろあれ

As for this final episode... Yamada being depressed over Sasaki not coming for over two weeks was hilarious; she really took it hard, hahaha!
There was a serious lack of Sasaki in her life that she was having withdrawal lol.
But it was annoying to see Sasaki moping so much about meeting up with his old colleague, so I was glad that Yamada took matters into her own hands and banned Sasaki from smoking with her.
One of my favourite parts of the episode. Yamada wasn't having any of that s**t so she pushed him to go see his old boss.

恋愛のほうも、「山田＝田山」の線も、結局まったく進まなかったのが意外だった。2期があるとして、このまま日常を続けるのか、抱えてる伏線に踏み込むのか気になる

I'm kind of surprised that they never progressed what is presumably a romance OR at least the Yamada is tamaya thread.
I wonder if this gets a S2 if it'll just be the same slice of life or they delve into the many deeper threads.

原作読みだけど、2期でやれることは山ほどある。ものすごく近くて優しい距離まで行くけど、二人とも人生でいろいろあった分、慎重で時間をかける——とだけ言っておく

Manga reader here, oh yes. There is A LOT to cover in a season 2. Lets say they get incredibly close and tender, but life experiences have caused them to be cautious and take their time.

This feels like a slow burn that burns slower than the cigarettes they smoke. But not necessarily in a bad way.

でも山田、口を滑らせて「佐々木が田山に話すのを楽しみにしてるのは自分だ」とバラしてるんだよな。小さいことだけど、ゼロではない

OR at least the Yamada is tamaya thread.
Yamada misspoke and revealed she's the one looking forward to Sasaki relaying his story to Tayama, though. It's a small thing, to be sure, but it's not nothing.

Their relationship feels so fragile in a way, this was the biggest shake up so far where Yamada felt like she broke it, they are perfectly fine as they are, but there are so many things that could completly change it.
I love them so much, please get together and have 3 kids

こういう関係をちゃんと「付き合う」形にするのは簡単じゃない。作品自体もそれを分かっていて、でも煙みたいに消えるのを待っているわけでもない、という感じがする

It really can't be easy to be official with a relationship like this, feels like the story knows that deep down but not that it's waiting for it to break down in a puff...

3巻の終わりあたりで日常ものから関係の話に軸が移る。4巻から先は読者の立ち位置そのものが話に組み込まれていって、そこから関係が強くなって、二人がリスクを取り始める。ネタバレはしないでおくけど

The story shifts from slice of life to relationship drama by the end of Volume 3. From Volume 4 and onwards your POV is actually part of the story, which is where the relationship is getting stronger and taking risks.
Don't wanna spoil anything but there are reasons why they prefer to take things slowly. They have gone through a lot in life and they are both kinda dense

佐々木の恩人が言った「そこまで背中を押してくれた人なら、よほど大事な人なんだろう」という一言が、どれくらい効いたんだろうな。あと、「たくさん聞かせてほしい」と言ったときの田山の顔

I wonder how much impact Saaski's mentor's comment -- about the person who pushed him into their Hokkaido encounter - that she "really must be a speciall person to him" had?
Tayama's expression when she told Sasaki that she wanted to hear lots of things about Hokkaido (though sub said "everything" instead) was just so utterly sweet and "open". Surely it must have also had some impact on Sasaki.

大好きなアニメだったし、終わってしまうのが本当に嫌だ。佐々木みたいな優しくて穏やかな男の人が現実でも好きだ。彼に山田がいてくれてよかった

Loved this anime and I hate to see it’s over. I love men like Sasaki in real life-sweet, kind, and gentle. I love that he has Yamada 💗

見終わった瞬間にもっと欲しくなるタイプのアニメ。原作は確実に読む。それと、史上最高の接客をしてくれた山田に拍手。佐々木がちゃんと恩人に会いに行ってくれて嬉しかった

This is the type of anime you watch and INSTANTLY need more. I am definitely reading the manga, this story is just so good.
Shout out to Yamada for giving the best customer service ever. I am honestly glad Sasaki went through with meeting up with his mentor. Sasaki explaining his relationship with yamada made this episode a 10/10 for me.
The whole scene with sasaki giving yamada his scarf was the cherry on top. AMAZING EPISODE. I really hope we get a 2nd season and more.
The manager missed out on the best romantic scene of her life.

原作はアニメの15〜20話ぶん先を行ってる。もし読むなら紙で読むのをすすめたい。空気が伝わるし、絵の良さがより立つ。たしかアニメは3巻までのはず

It's 15-20 chapters behind but if you decide reading the manga I would recommend trying to read it physically if you can. You feel the vibes more and the art stands out even more that way. Not 100% sure but the anime should have covered up to volume 3 and there are 7 out rn (8 comes out in november i believe). If you have the cash and are interested in it I would recommend checking out physically first and if you can't wait and want to read more then go digital.

It's funny for me when Yamada shows her eyes more to Sasaki and he still doesn't get it lol.

1期として文句なし。キャラ全員良かったけど、とくに山田／田山と後藤さん

Excellent first season, thoroughly enjoyed all the characters but especially Yamada / Tayama and Goto

怒った目の山田が良すぎる。あと、佐々木が近づいてくるのをフェンスのところで待ってる場面、顔のアップが数カットあって、あれは反則だった

Yamada with angry eyes i hot as hell. Also, when she was standing by the fence while Sasaki was approaching we've gotten like the craziest little montage of her. She was absolutely stunning with these few close ups of her face.

例の“男を殺す”と言われるセーターを着たまま説教してるのが最高なんだよ

I love how she took him to task while wearing a virgin killer sweater.

Agh I don't think there's an anime I'll miss more than this one. It was so heartwarming and original, I loved everything about it. Now I need something to satisfy my adults navigating life and love together fix.
I just started reading the manga Hirayasumi, and Tokyo Tarabe Girls. Does anyone have any other recommendations for anime or manga with a similar vibe / cast age as this?

自分は喫煙にも喫煙者にも心底反対の立場なんだが、日本社会でタバコ（と酒）が人付き合いの中で担ってきた役割くらいは分かるつもりだ。喫煙の描き方そのものは好きになれなかったけれど、作品としては良かった

Now, I am deeply and viscerally opposed to smoking and smokers, but I know enough about Japanese society—even if I’m not entirely up to date—to understand the importance of tobacco (and alcohol) within its social fabric.
While I didn't care for the positive portrayal of smoking,
I was able to look past that and focus on the two characters; they are engaging figures whom you take the time to discover and appreciate as the episodes unfold, making the series a pleasant and enjoyable watch.
