画面が周りに切り替わるたびに、見てるみんながドン引きしてるのが最高だった。高順の反応には笑った。新入りの女の子まで泣かせちゃうし、趙迂は壬氏を問い詰めるし（笑）

Loved how everyone else watching was in disgust when they'd pan back, Gaoshun's reaction was hilarious. Even made the new girl Zulin cry and got Chou-u calling out Jinshi lmfao.

趙迂も、「はい」か「いいえ」で答えられる具体的な質問をしてたし、猫猫もいくつかには「そう」って答えてたんだよね。

Chou-u was also asking her specific yes or no questions, and she said “sure” to some of them.

猫猫、揚げたバッタだか蝗だかを壬氏に食べさせるとか、えげつない。猫猫の「あーん」には逆らえないんだな（笑）。周りのみんなの反応も最高。子どもたちは部屋から出ていかされてたし（笑）
あそこが今回いちばん良かった。猫猫と（特に）壬氏の反応が本当に良かった！
ところで、どうしてあれで新入りの女の子が泣いちゃったのかはよく分からないけど、それも含めて笑った。

That was the best part of this episode, and Maomao and (especially) Jinshi's reactions then were so good!
By the way, I don't really understand why the whole thing made poor Zulin cry, but nonetheless that was hilarious as well, lol.

今の自分たちの人気をぼやきながらも、梅梅が新入りの女の子の先生役をしてるのがすごく良かった。

壬氏はほんとに大きな赤ちゃんだな。前は子守歌で寝かしつけてもらいたがって、今度は猫猫に食べさせてもらわないと食べないと言い出した。甘やかしてもらえる喜びが、バッタへの嫌悪感に勝ったんだな（笑）
そうか、猫猫と翠苓からすれば、子翠はもうこの世にいないんだよな。まだちゃんと生きてるって知ってるのは、視聴者の俺たちだけ。いつかどうにかして再会したら、どうなるんだろう。遠い国にいるから可能性は低いけど、ゼロじゃない。

Jinshi's truly a man-baby. First, he wanted to be lullabied to sleep and now he refused to eat unless Maomao fed him. The feeling of being pampered by her was enough to overcome his disgust of the grasshoppers lmao.
Right, as far as Maomao and Suirei were concerned Shisui's no longer in the land of the living. The only ones who knew she's still very much alive were us the audience. I wonder what would happen if they somehow crossed paths in the future. She's in a faraway land so the chances are low but still non-zero.

二人とも子翠をそれぞれ悼みながら、あの子がどれほど頭が良くてすごい子だったかを認め合う。すごくいい場面だった。
まあ、今ごろ本人は「なんちゃって日本」で楽しくやってるんだろうけど。

Seeing them both kind of mourn her but then come together in acknowledging/appreciating how brilliant/amazing she was a really nice moment.
Even if I feel like at the moment she's probably living it up in Not!Japan right now.

壬氏は甘やかしてほしいというより、猫猫と何かできるなら何でもいいんじゃないかな。今はいつでも会えるわけじゃないし、会えたとしても、彼女の欲しいものを手に入れる手伝いばかり。それが精いっぱいなら、その機会を逃さないんだと思う。

I'm not sure if Jinshi wanted to be pampered as much as he just wanted to do anything with Maomao. He doesn't see her regularly at present, and when he does, it's just to help her get something she wants. If that's the best he can get, then he's going to take it.

この作品、本当に見ていて幸せになる。映像、物語、音楽、登場人物、テンポ。その全部がぴったり決まっていて、登場人物が痛いくらい生々しく感じられる。特に好きだったのが、女華と猫猫の会話。ちなみに女華は一番のお気に入り。壬氏が虫を食べているときの趙迂、やり手婆、白鈴の表情や、猫猫の理想の男性の似顔絵が出来上がったあとの反応も良かった。壬氏は本当に、もうどうしようもないな。核心に直接触れず、周りからヒントを落として、視聴者に察してもらう見せ方がすごくうまい。猫猫と壬氏の今の関係が、そのまま表れているようだった。第3期を見て、この作品は自分が見たアニメの中でも、最も大人びていて現実味のある作品かもしれないと思ってる。一秒一秒がたまらなく好き。

Man, this show is such a joy to watch. Every single thing- the visuals, the story, the music, the characters and the pacing- is absolutely on point. The characters feel painfully real.
I especially liked the scene with Joka (My fave btw. Yeah I know. Still.) and her conversation with Maomao. That, alongwith the reactions and expressions on the faces of Cho-u, Madam and Pairin, while Jinshi was eating the bug (Poor guy. He's completely hopeless) and after drawing the portrait of Maomao's ideal guy, was such an excellent instance of making the viewer figure out the subject while dancing around it, while dropping hints. Perfectly mirrors the current state of Maomao and Jinshi.
Right now S3 has made The Apothecary Diaries probably the most mature and realistic anime I have ever watched. Absolutely loving every second of it.

猫猫と翠苓を眺めながら、阿多がのんびりくつろいでるのが大好き。あそこで二人を見ていてくれて良かった。阿多が口を挟まなかったら、見つからなかった本がすぐ目の前にあったと猫猫が気づくまで、もう少しかかっただろうから。
残念ながら、本には役に立つ情報はあったけど、蝗害に対処する秘策は書いてなかったみたい。みんながもう知ってる昔ながらのやり方ばかり。それでも、バッタを宮廷料理にして、人々に数を減らしてもらおうという猫猫の案は大好き xD
かわいそうな壬氏！　猫猫が手ずから食べさせようとした瞬間、勝ち目なんてなかった。だって、どうする？　断る？　壬氏が食べさせてほしがってるとやっと気づいたときの猫猫の反応も、かなり面白かった。
みんなで集まって趙迂に猫猫の理想の男を描かせたのに、ちっとも壬氏に似てなくてがっかりしてるのも笑える。似顔絵が壬氏っぽくなる特徴は、わざと避けてた気がする。
女華からの思いがけない名言もあった。女華の話はあまり聞けないんだよね。しゃべるのはたいてい梅梅と白鈴だから。でも、猫猫の性格は自分に近いと女華が思う理由は、よく分かる。
緑青館の三姫より人気のある人がいる！？　赤い目のアルビノだから人気があるのは分かるけど、理由はそれだけじゃない気がする。最後の場面の煙と飲み物を見ると、薬が絡んでいそう。あれは間違いなく、回想で何度も出てくる、汚染されたお菓子を配ってた女と同じ人だ。

I just love how Ah-Duo is chillin' while watching Maomao and Suirei. I'm glad she was there observing the two because if it wasn't for her intervention, it would've probably taken Maomao a bit longer to realize the missing book was right under her nose.
Unfortunately, while the book did have useful info, it looks like it has no hidden secret for dealing with locust plagues. It's all the classic stuff they already know. I do love Maomao's suggestion of turning the grasshoppers into royal cuisine to encourage people to thin their numbers. xD
Poor Jinshi! The dude did not stand a chance the second Maomao tried to feed him by hand. I mean, what's he gonna do? Reject her offer? Maomao's reaction when she finally realizes that Jinshi wants her to feed him was pretty funny tho.
It's pretty funny how everyone gathered around to get Chuo-o to draw Maomao's ideal man, only to be disappointed because it looked nothing like Jinshi. I feel like she was intentionally avoiding any features that would make the drawing look like him.
Some surprise words of wisdom from Joka. We don't really get to hear much from her; it's usually Meimei and Pairin who talk, but I can definitely see why Joka thinks Maomao's personality is closer to her.
Someone's more popular than the Three Princesses of Verdigris House?! Considering the girl is an albino with red eyes, I can see why she's popular, but I feel like that's not the only reason. All that smoke and drinks during the final scene makes me think drugs are involved. She's definitely the same girl we keep on seeing in flashbacks, spreading those contaminated snacks.

女の子たちが話し合ってる間、阿多が王様みたいに豪勢に座ってるのが最高に面白かった。皇后にはならなかったけど、王族の風格がある……月の君とそっくりな見た目だけじゃなくてね。
本当の愛とは、最愛の人に食べさせてもらうものなら何でも食べられること。
猫猫は賢いから、壬氏とくっつけようとする周りの試みにいちいち乗ったりしない。ある意味、冷静で現実的で割り切った女華と、白鈴みたいに気持ちや欲に素直になることの間で、揺れてるのかもね。猫猫の母親や羅漢とあれだけ近かった梅梅は、猫猫と壬氏のことをどう思ってるんだろう。
正直に言うと、上田麗奈が声をあてる美人のアルビノが見世物をやってたら、自分もたぶん行っちゃう。水銀は飲まないかもしれないけど、それでも。

Ah-Duo just sitting lavishly king-style while the girls had their discussion just killed me. She may not have become Empress, but she's got that royal vibe...beyond looking as identical to the Moon Prince as she does.
True love is being willing to eat ANYTHING the love of your life feeds you.
Maomao is too smart to go along with every attempt to ship her with Jinshi. I guess in a way she's kind of torn between the stoic, pragmatic, and detached Joka and giving in to feelings/desires as much as Pairin does. I wonder how Meimei might feel about Maomao and Jinshi knowing how close she was to Maomao's mother and Lakan?
I gotta be honest, if there was an attractive albino lady voiced by Reina Ueda putting on shows, I'd probably go there too. Maybe not drink mercury, but still.

子翠がどれだけすごい子だったかを思い出して、感心して大喜びしてる。猫猫があそこまで幸せそうなのって、めったに見ないよね。

You very rarely see Maomao that happy when she's impressed/overjoyed at being reminded how based Shisui was.

もっと二人を見ていたかった。でも、猫猫の推理力と子翠の策略が組んだら、強すぎるんだよね。今ごろ物語の問題を解決してしまってる。退場は必要だったんだろうけど、あんなに心を許せる相手が猫猫のそばにいないのは、やっぱりつらい。

Really wish we could have gotten more of them but they’d simply be too powerful together, they’d have fixed the plot by now with Maomao’s deduction skills and Shisui’s scheming capabilities. She had to go even if it hurts me a lot that Maomao doesn’t have a good confidant like her around.

She did NOT describe her ideal -- she just deliberately picked choices that were the opposite of Jinshi.

緑青館のみんなは、どうして猫猫がああいう態度なのか、不思議なんだと思う。国で一番の結婚相手といえる男から、明らかに求愛されているのに、猫猫はなるべく応えないようにしている。女華は男の心変わりを話題にして、たぶん核心に近いところを突いている。「この好機に飛びつかない本当の理由は、壬氏に飽きられると思っているからじゃない？」と聞いているように見えた。妓楼で生きている人たちからすると、猫猫の態度は理解しにくいんだろうね。

The whole idea is the entire Verdigris house wondering why in the world she's acting this way when she is obviously being courted by the most elegible bachelor in the kingdom, and yet she's doing her best to not reciprocate.
Joka at least hits closer to what is most likely the mark, by talking about how fickle men are. Basically asking Maomao if the real reason she's not grabbing the opportunity with both hands is that she thinks Jinshi will get bored of her or something. Because for people in a whorehouse, her behavior is just hard to comprehend.

猫猫がバッタで壬氏をからかって、壬氏が（嫌そうにしながらも）それを食べたのには大笑いした！　みんなの反応も最高だったし、あれのせいで新入りの女の子が泣いちゃったのも笑った。
猫猫が趙迂に好みの男のタイプを説明して、後宮のやぶ医者にそっくりな絵が出来上がったのも面白かった。
それから、今回は翠苓と阿多にまた会えたのも良かった。出番はそれほど多くなかったけど、それでもうれしかったし、これが最後の登場じゃないといいな。
それに来週は、ついに謎の「白い女」に会えるみたい。待ちきれない！

Maomao teasing Jinshi with a grasshopper and him eating it (with disgust, but still) cracked me up, hahaha! Their reactions were hilarious, just like the fact that the whole situation made poor Zulin cry, lol.
Maomao describing to Chou-u the type of guy she likes, which resulted in a picture of a man strongly resembling the doctor from the rear palace, was fun as well.
Also, it was nice to see Suirei and Ah-Duo again in this episode. They didn't have too much screentime, but still, it was nice, and I hope that it's not the last time we see them.
And it looks like next week we'll finally meet the mysterious White Lady. I can't wait for it!

「白い女」は、貧しい庶民相手から、もっと上の客層に格上げしたみたいだね……しかも、それを存分に楽しんでる。
猫猫が翠苓、阿多と再会！　翠苓と猫猫が話している間、阿多は当然の権利のように、後ろでひたすら風格を漂わせてる。
悪い知らせは、翠苓も猫猫が求める答えを持っていなかったこと……前の薬師の不老不死の薬は本当に効いて、神美の手から逃げられたけど、今は体が動かず記憶も無いから、猫猫の力にはなれない。
もちろん、猫猫と翠苓の会話の底には、子翠（楼蘭）を失ったという共通の思いが流れてる。でも、子翠ほど賢い子なら、大切で大好きな虫の記録の最後の一冊を、いい隠し場所にしまっているはずだと気づいたのは阿多だった。猫猫の仕事ぶりを眺めるのが好きな阿多もいいけど、それ以上にいいのは、親友が思ったとおり抜け目なく賢かったと猫猫が喜んでいるところ！
迫りくる蝗害に、簡単な解決策は無い。できることをして食い止め、幼虫を始末するしかない。殺虫剤を買いだめして、バッタを宮廷の珍味にする準備をしておこう！
猫猫と壬氏のランチデート！　猫猫は、こんがり焼けたジューシーなバッタをどうぞと差し出す！　そして猫猫が挑発するなら、壬氏はできるだけたくさん食べさせてもらおうとする！　猫猫の箸からバッタを食べる壬氏の勇姿があまりにすごくて、かわいそうに新入りの女の子は泣き出しちゃった。
猫猫の好みのタイプは？　まさかやぶ医者！？　猫猫があのやぶ医者をそこまで評価してたとは知らなかった！　ただ白鈴は、猫猫が恋愛に煮え切らず避けてばかりなのをもったいないと思ってる。一方で女華は、二人とも現実的で冷静で、そういう夢物語に心を動かされないところに親近感を覚えてる。特に女華は、男に痛い目を見てきた感じがするし。二人とも妓女（あるいは妓女の血を引く者）だから、それ以上は期待できない……今いる状況で精いっぱいやるしかないんだ。
三姫は美しくてスタイルも良くて、妹分に世話をされながら、次の世代を育てる心配もしなきゃいけない。でも本当の目玉は、街に新しく来た見世物。アルビノの妖術師が「読心術」で役人たちを引き寄せて、自分と、自分は不老不死だという話を信じ込ませている。しかも役人たちは、教祖を慕うように彼女についていってるみたい。
来週：猫猫 vs 白い女！

Seems like the White Lady has upgraded from poor commoners to a higher class of audience...and she's enjoying every minute of it.
Maomao is reunited with Suirei and Ah-Duo! And while Suirei and Maomao converse, Ah-Duo is just going to aura farm behind them as is her right.
The bad news is that Suirei actually doesn't have the solutions Maomao needs...the former Apothecaries' immortality potion DID work and help him escape from Shenmei's clutches, but he's now paralyzed and memory-less so he can't help Maomao at all.
Of course an undercurrent in Maomao and Suirei's talk is the shared loss of Shisui/Loulan between them, but it takes Ah-Duo to recognize that someone as smart as Shisui would have found a good hiding spot for the last for the notes on her precious, beloved bugs. And the only thing better than Ah-Duo loving watching Maomao work is Maomao happy that her bestie was as cunning and smart as she thought she was!
There's no simple or easy solution to take care of the upcoming plague, they can only do what they can to stave it off and take care of the larvae. Better stock up on insecticides and be prepared to make grasshoppers a royal delicacy!
A lunch date between Maomao and Jinshi! Where she offers him some succulent, roasted, grasshoppers for him to delight in! And if Maomao is going to dare him, he's going to make her feed him as much as possible! And it's such a sight watching Jinshi brave eating grasshoppers off of Maomao's chopsticks that it brings poor Zulin to tears.
What's Maomao's type? Guen!? I didn't know she appreciated the quack doctor that much! Though Pairin thinks it's a waste that Maomao is so nom-commital and avoidant of romance, even as Joka feels a kinship to Maomao for how they're both practical, stoic, people unmoved by such fancies. Especially since it feels like Joka's been burned by men. They're both harlots (or have harlot blood), so they can never expect more than that...they just have to make the most of the situation they're in now.
The Three Princess' are beautiful, busty, and have to worry about mentoring the next generation while getting tended to by their little sister. But the real showstopper is the new theater act in town: the albino sorceress who is using her "mind-reading" to lull in officials and make them loyal to her and her claims of being immortal. All the while they seem to be following her like a cult leader.

今回、子翠、楼蘭がどれほど楽しくて、頼もしい存在だったかを、あらためて思い出させてくれた。本当に見事な脇役だ。歴代でも最高の一人。

This episode once again reminded us of the joy and powerhouse that was Shisui/Loulan.
What a superb side character. One of the all time best.

この展開、すごく皮肉だよね。子一族は武力による反乱では朝廷を倒せなかったのに、ずさんな森林管理が、朝廷を倒しかねない蝗害を生むかもしれない。

There’s some great irony in this turn of events:
Shi clan didn’t manage to overthrow the imperial government through an armed uprising, but their poor environmental policies might create a locust plague that does.

子翠は、壊滅的な蝗の大群が押し寄せるのを、ほとんど避けられないと分かっていた。だから、本当に故郷を大切に思って、被害を最小限にするために動いたんだ。

Shisui had learned about the near inevitability of a devastating locust swarm -- so (actually being devoted to her homeland) took steps to minimize the impact.

今日はお母さんみたいな猫猫が、たっぷり食べさせてくれたな。

Mama Maomao feeding us good today lol

あの水銀の描写、本当に良かった！　小さく揺れる様子や、普通の水とは違う細部で、台詞を使わず、何なのかを伝えてくる。すごくうまい。

The mercury animation was so good! The way that they could show us what it was, with the little sways and details that differentiate mercury from normal water, without having to tell the viewer. So genius.

子翠はもうその場にいないし、回想でさえ台詞がなかった。それでも、今も物語を動かし続けているのが好き。また帰ってきてほしいし、ほんの少しでも再会してほしい。どんな形でもいいから、また声を聞きたい。寂しい。

I love that even if Shisui is no longer there and had no speaking role (even in the flashbacks) she is still making an impact to the story.
I hope we get to see her comeback soon. I hope we get a reunion, even a short one. Anything to hear her voice again, I miss her 🥲

Considering one of the players is, like, 10 and learning the basics, looks pretty OK to me! A good friend of mine from university chess club sat down with me once to try to learn to play Go and the positions looked so cursed and noobish...
If it were two players that were supposed to be good, you'd have a point, but...

When Maomao began describing, I just had a hunch it’d end as the quack doctor. She just described the opposite of Jinshi!

体感だと、十分くらいで終わってしまった気がする。

自分もいなくなったあと、友達にこんな顔をさせられたらいいな。
やぶ医者が後宮の外で「カメオ出演」するにしても、まさかこんな形とは（笑）　やるな、そんなにモテるとは知らなかったぞ。
それに、少なくとも水銀があの人の配色に合ってるのは否定できない。

もしバッタを減らす方法の一つとして珍味を売り出すつもりなら、そのおいしさを宣伝する役は、壬氏以外の誰かに頼んだほうがいい。
子翠がまたやってくれた。たぶんみんな子翠は死んだと思ってるのが残念だけど、少なくとも俺たちは本当のことを知ってる。

Well, if they do try and push grasshoppers as a delicacy as one of the means of controlling them they need to have someone other than Jinshi do the advertising for how tasty they are.
Shisui comes through one more time. It's a shame that they likely all think she's dead but at least we know otherwise.

「ああ、そういえば、あの診療所で虫の本を見たんだった……」
「白い女」は本当に水銀を飲んでるのか？　この「仙女」自身も長くはなさそうだけど、できるだけ多くこの国の役人を道連れにするつもりなんだろう。追記：もちろん、自分は偽物の水銀を飲んで、役人には本物を出してるなら話は別だけど。

"Oh yeaaah, I did see the book on insects in that clinic, didn't I..."
The "lady in white" is actually drinking mercury? I guess this "immortal" is not gonna be long for this world herself, but plans to take as many of this country's officials with her as she can. Edit: Unless, of course, she herself is drinking fake mercury while serving the officials the real thing.

なかなか見つからない最後の一冊を追う捜索は続く。
また子翠の「亡き妻の回想」だけど、もうこうなったら、どんな口実でもいいから出てきてほしい。
子翠、なんて抜け目のない天才なんだ！
猫猫が心からあんなふうに笑うのを見たのは、いつ以来だろう。子翠が物語から退場しなきゃならなかったのは、猫猫と手を組んで一緒に動けたら強すぎるからだと、本気で思ってる。
まあ、事態が手に負えなくなったら大変なことに変わりはないけど、少なくとも現実的な対策は打てる。
もしかしたら、ほんとにもしかしたら、猫猫の舌は王族よりちょっとだけ……冒険好きなのかもしれない。
猫猫に食べさせてもらうためなら、虫を食べる価値はある？　壬氏の答えは、ぎりぎりで「ある」だったみたい。
アルビノの妖術師は、三姫よりも珍しいものに移り気な男の客を引き寄せて、緑青館の大事な商売を奪ってる。彼女が、こっそり貧しい人たちに毒を配ってた謎の女だとすると、人混みに紛れて噂を抑えるのは難しそう。アルビノなんてそうそういないよね？
次回は彼女の商売をのぞきに行くみたい。知ってのとおり、猫猫は科学の手品で人をだますのはかなりの経験者だから、同じことをしてる相手と対決することになりそう。

How long has it been since we saw Maomao legitimately smile like that? I fully believe that Shisui had to exit the series cause her and Maomao would be too powerful if they were allowed to team up and work together.
Well, at least that’s some practical measures that can be taken even if they’re still in big trouble if things get out of hand.
Maybe, just maybe, Maomao has a slightly more… adventurous palate than that of a royal.
Is eating bugs worth getting fed by Maomao? Seems like Jinshi decided that the answer is yes, if barely.
The albino sorceress that’s pulling valuable business from the Verdigris house by attracting the fickle male customers to something more exotic than the three princesses. Just assuming that she’s the mystery woman that’s been sneaking around handing out poison to the poor, feels like it’d be difficult to blend into a crowd and keep rumors down. Not a lot of albino’s around, right?
Seems like we’re checking out her business next time. Maomao’s as we know is pretty experienced in the art of scamming people with scientific trickery and guess we’re going up against someone doing the same.

最後のあれ、「白い女」は本当に水銀をがぶ飲みしたのか？
あれと壬氏のバッタの場面で、本当に変なものを口にする人たちの回だったな。あの男は、猫猫にほんの少し甘やかしてもらうためなら、本当にどこまでもやる。でも、猫猫が少しでも甘やかしたことで、緑青館のみんなが気づいた。やり手婆まで！

Did the white lady really just take a big ol' gulp of mercury at the end there?
This really is the episode of people eating strange things between that and the Jinshi grasshopper scene. That man will really go to any lengths for the tiniest bit of indulgence from Maomao. But her indulging at all has made everyone at the brothel take note, even Grams!

猫猫が食べさせてくれるなら、バッタくらい我慢できる気がする。……少しの間なら。

猫猫にあんな笑顔をさせられるのは、やっぱり子翠だな。
子翠は猫猫を「利用」して、朝廷の軍を子一族の砦に導いたんじゃないかと考えたことがある。それで猫猫が、自分は子翠にとって何だったのか分からなくなっているのも理解できる。
今回、翠苓は「あの方がいれば、猫猫が関わることすらなかった」と言っていた。子どもたちの世話のことか、蝗の対処のことか。正直、両方かもしれない。それでも、子翠が猫猫を連れていったのは囮にするためじゃなく、自分の後始末を手伝ってもらうつもりだったんだと受け取りたい。確か、本が診療所に置かれたのは、子翠が去るつもりだった直前だったはず。それだけ猫猫を高く買っていたってことだし、もっといい状況にいたら、父親と同じように国のことを気にかけていたんだろうな。
厄介な欠点だらけでも、やっぱり子翠が本当に恋しい。
それから壬氏と猫猫。今や両方にカップル推しがいる。やり手婆や姉さんたちは壬氏の好意をもう知ってると思ってたけど、今は良い面も悪い面も含めて、もっと真剣に考えてる。それに阿多は賢いから、未来の義理の娘になるかもしれない子を見に来たんじゃないかって気がする（笑）。昔、月の君が花を摘むとか何とかって話もあったし。あの食べさせる場面を見ると、猫猫が本当に気づいてないのかは分からない。それとも気持ちを押し込めているだけか、そのどっちか。でもあの場面だと前者に傾いちゃって、ちょっと切ない。まあ、考えすぎかな。全体としては確実に進展してる。
そして今度は白い魔導士みたいな女。めちゃくちゃ危なそうだし、何か後ろ盾もあるみたい。

Man it's Shisui alright who can make her grin like that.
I had a thought where Shisui "used" MaoMao to lead the royal army to the Shi stronghold, I can also understand if that left MaoMao unable to guess what she is to Shisui.
This time Suirei just mentioned that if the Master were there, MaoMao wouldn't even get involved. I wonder if this refer to her taking care of the children, or to look after the locusts, could be both to be honest. But still I'd take it that she did intend to have MaoMao to help clean up after her, rather than as a bait when she brought her, and IIRC the book was left in the clinic just shortly before she plan to leave. Which shows how high she regards MaoMao, and how she'd look after the country if she were in a better situation, just like her father.
Man I really missed her despite all her grim flaws.
And then there's Jinshi and MaoMao. We have shipper on both sides now. I thought the grams and sisters all knows already about Jinshi's affection, but they're thinking about it more seriously now, the good and the bad. And Ah Duo, smart as she's, I have a feeling she intend to watch her potential daughter in law lol, with all the talk about Yue picking flower or something back then. I don't know if MaoMao really oblivious by looking at that feeding scene. I am between that or she just suppressing her thought. But this scene is making me to lean towards the former which makes it a bit sad. But eh, just me overthinking stuff, progress is definitely good overall.
Now the white mage girl looks dangerous af, and she seem to have some sort of backing as well.

女華にまた光が当たっただけで、もううれしい。三姫の中で一番好きなんだけど、注目される機会がいちばん少ないから。

Im already happy Joka got some love again. Shes my favorite of the three. But the least attention.

女華が「男は変わる」と話すとき、月が雲に隠れる細かい演出が好き。自分は、壬氏は違う、すごく一途なんだという意味に受け取った。

I liked the detail of the moon being covered by the clouds while Joka was saying that men change which I interpreted as Jinshi being different and very loyal

考えてみると、阿多があの子を引き取ったのってけっこう面白いな。二人とも中性的だし
あと、阿多が最後の手がかりを出したのも良かった。阿多の賢いところも見られてうれしい。
追記：でも子翠が恋しい（泣）　理想の女の子だった。かわいくて、スタイルが良くて、猫猫のいいライバルだった

猫猫が本当の好みを答えていたら、趙迂はどこからか色のついた墨まで取り出して、壬氏の顔をそっくりそのまま描いていた気がする。

If Maomao gave her real answers I'm pretty sure Chou-u would have somehow whipped out colored ink and we'd have see an exact portrait of Jinshi's face.

見た目の特徴については、わざと違う答えをしたのかもしれない。でも、猫猫が壬氏をそういう目で見ていないのは、誰もが知っていることだと思う。珍しい材料を用意してもらえるのは好きだけど、できるだけ壬氏を避けたい。少なくとも、前はそうだった。猫猫のやりたいことリストで、壬氏は一番上にいるわけじゃない。

Maybe she intentionally gave wrong answers about the physical attributes, but it's no secret that Maomao doesn't really see Jinshi that way. She likes that he can provide her with rare ingredients, but wants to avoid him as much as possible. At least, that's how it used to be. He's not exactly on the top of her to do-list.

猫猫は、自分が壬氏を好きだとはまだ気づいていないかもしれない。でも、抽象的にはどういう人に魅力を感じるか、自分でも分かっている。そして、あの理想像とは正反対の答えを、間違いなく、わざと選んでいた。

She may not yet realize she "likes" Jinshi, but she does know what she finds (in the abstract) attractive. And she was definitely deliberately giving answers that were opposite to this platonic ideal.

猫猫は自分の気持ちに気づいてる。ただ、信用できない語り手なだけ。今期の猫猫の壬氏への接し方を、たとえば1期と比べても違いが分かる。
趙迂やみんなが何を企んでるか分かってたから、わざと壬氏と正反対のことを言ったんだよ。目の形のところで羅漢が頭に浮かんで邪魔されたのは別として（笑）

She does realize her feelings, she's just an unreliable narrator. You can also see the difference in how she interacts with Jinshi this season in comparison to say s1.
She knew what Chou-u and everyone else was up to so she deliberately gave them the opposite of what Jinshi is with the exception of Lakan interrupting her thoughts re: eye shape lol.

That’s also what I’d been thinking! All the features she’d described were the polar opposite of Jinshi’s.
Maomao must’ve wanted the others to believe that got no interest in Jinshi whatsoever. She made it too obvious, however. Because Pairin isn’t buying it.

猫猫が緑青館で姉さんたちとお風呂に入った、あの場面のこと？　なんとなくそんな場面があった気はする。女華が何を言ってたかは全然覚えてないけど。
女華は、特に梅梅や白鈴と比べると、少し背景に下がってた感じがする。だから今週、女華のことをもう少し知れてうれしかった。思慮深い人みたいだね。

You mean that one scene in which Maomao joined her sisters in the bath at the Verdigris House? Because I do vaguely recall something like that. Though I cannot remember anything that Joka might’ve said.
Joka’s character had disappeared a little to the background, especially when compared to Meimei or Pairin, so I’m happy that we got to know a bit more about her with this week’s episode. She appears to be a thoughtful type of person.

Maybe... but if I'm an experienced player in chess teaching the basic moves in chess to a child, I'd also do incredibly stupid openings and positions that I'd never do in a real game. Meimei's teaching, not playing to win, and so might have just been going along with whatever she's doing for now. Strategy can come after the "don't put that stone there, it'd be instantly captured" lessons 😛

そうだね。女華の場面をもっと見たい。恋についての話を聞くと、そんなものは見つからないと思っているように感じる。壬氏が猫猫を心から愛していると知って、そういう愛情は本当にあると信じられるようになってほしい。あの世界の仕組みでは、めったになくて、なかなか手に入らないものだけど。

Yeah I’d like to see more scenes with her. By what she said about love, it seems that she doesn’t believe it’s possible to find. I hope her seeing how Jinshi truly loves Maomao will help her believe that it’s possible to have that, but it’s rare and difficult to get due to the systems of the world they live in.

愛というものが存在しないと信じていた、という解釈ではないと思う。どちらかというと、誰かを信じるのが難しいという気持ちを手放す話なんじゃないかな。

I don't think the interpretation is that she didn't believe that it exists. It's more about letting go of trust issues most likely

自分も気づいた！　壬氏はほかの男とは違うし、変わるとしても、いい方向に変わったのだと伝える、すてきな映像だった。猫猫に一途で、誠実なんだよね。

I noticed this too! It was a nice visual to show Jinshi is different and has changed but in the best way. He’s devoted and loyal to maomao.
