Is the whole Angels vs Demons setting a reference to the "X" series with the Dragons of Heaven and Dragons of Earth or is it referring to something else I am not aware of?

この作品で、佐々木が真っ二つにされるなんて、まったく予想してなかった。

i did not expect Sasaki getting cut in half at any point during this show.

いい面を言えば、お隣さんが前から佐々木に夢中だったなら、これでその気持ちはもっともっと悪化する。『抱きかかえてくれた！私のために戦ってくれた！命をかけてくれた！絶対に私のことを想ってる、否定するやつは全員ただじゃおかない！！』
次の話でいちばん楽しみなのはそこ。まだ8話も残ってるから、佐々木が無事なのは間違いない。気まずいことにズボンは無いけど、それ以外は無事。

On the plus side, if Otonari was nuts about Sasaki before, this is about to make those feelings way, way worse. "He held me in his arms! He fought on my behalf! He risked his life for me! Clearly he must feel something for me too, and I WILL GUT ANYONE WHO DENIES IT!!"
That's the real thing I'm excited for next episode. We still have eight more episodes to go so I have zero doubt Sasaki will be fine. Awkwardly pantsless, but otherwise fine.

予想だけど、お隣さんが使えるマジックドレインを逆向きに使えば、回復を早められるんじゃないか。でなきゃ、ピーちゃんが助けに来る！

My guess is the Magic Drain spell Otonari-san knows can be applied in reverse to speed up his healing. That or Peeps to the rescue!

Come to think of it, do Sasaki and Otonari know each other's names? They seemed to only refer to each other as "ojisan" and "that girl next door".

深読みしすぎかもしれないけど、スラッシュはどこに入れるのがいちばんいいんだろう。フレン／ダでもフレ／ンダでも成り立つのは、日本語ではンがそれだけで1つの音になるから。でもササキではそうはいかない。サ／サキか、ササ／キのどっちかだ。
まあ……ローマ字で書けば厳密にはFurendaなんだけど、日本語ではフの音の後ろの文字を小さく書いて外国語の音をまねることがある。たいていはウ以外の母音だけど、子音でダメな理由も見当たらない。

I'm probably looking too deep into this, but where would the slash fit the best? It works for Fren/da or Fre/nda, because N is its own syllable in Japanese, but that doesn't work for Sasaki. It's either Sa/saki or Sasa/ki.
Well...Technically, it would be Furenda, but there HAVE been instances of the Japanese using the fu-syllable to copy foreign words, by putting the following letter into lowercase. That's usually a vowel other than u, but I don't see a reason for why it shouldn't work with consonants.

Tbf, misunderstandings are a staple of conflict building.

お隣さん役の声優、鬼頭明里さんに拍手。絶望で過呼吸になる息づかいから、感情がしっかり伝わってくる。あんな感情は、誰にでも出せるものじゃない。日本の声優は、熾天使級の才能だ。

Props to Otonari's VA,, Akari Kito. You can really feel the emotions from that hyperventilating breathing of despair. Not just anyone can bring out that kind of emotion. Japanese VA's are a Seraphim level of talent.

今日その名前、どこかで見たと思ったんだ。サイバーパンクのシーズン2を見始めて、タリアの声優が誰か気になってたから。今回の演技もすばらしかった。

I knew I saw that name already once today. I started watching Cyberpunk S2 and was interested who's Talias VA. Her performance in this episode was great

おおお……しかも記憶なしで始まって、その世界で強い魔法使いに育って、そのあと呪われて小鳥になるんだ……とんでもないタイムパラドックスのどんでん返しだ。

OOOoo.... and he starts with no memory and in that world he grow up to be a powerful magician and then later got curse into becoming a small bird... HOLY time paradox plot twist.

ハラハラしっぱなしの回だった。あそこまで生々しいとは思わなかった。主人公補正はまだ分かるけど、佐々木が熾天使に勝ったりしたら、それこそ極めつけだと思う。
とはいえ主人公補正は来るはずだし、どう来るのか楽しみだ。

Was on the edge of my seat for the episode. Didn't expect the graphicness. MC plot armour is one thing, but if Sasaki were to pull a win against the Seraph, that will really take the cake imo.
Nonetheless, plot armour has to come in and I'm eager to see how.

Ok that was mildly entertaining for sasaki and peeps. What now? A miracle save? Omniscient wish granting? Time travel? No way sasaki stays dead.

いや、何話か前に説明されてたよ。死ぬ前にシナリオが終われば、傷は消えるって。

Nah, they told us what would happen a few episodes ago. If the scenario ends before he dies the gore goes away.

主人公だから生き残るのは分かってる。でもこのあとは、もっとたくさん修行してほしい。ピーちゃんはきっと怒って、もっと厳しく鍛えるだろうな。もっとずっと強くならないと。

Since he's the MC we know he'll survive, but after this, I hope he'll train a lot more. Pii-chan will likely be upset and will train him harder. He needs to get a lot stronger.

ピーちゃんが、佐々木のけがに気づいた瞬間にあの空間へ現れて、天使たちを電撃殺虫器みたいにバチッと片付けてくれるのを期待してる。

I'm hoping Pii-chan just manifests into the space once he notices he's hurt and bug zappers the angels

予想だけど、佐々木は代理戦争に巻き込まれた部外者だから、意図しない死者を出さないように、熾天使が治してくれるんじゃないかな。

I thought Sasaki would transfer to the otherworld. Not a beam clash. But it's been a while, is that something he can only do with P-chan?
My guess is that since Sasaki is a non-participant caught up in this proxy war, the seraph will end up healing him to prevent an unintentional casualty.

we dont know if teleportation works when inside that death-game world, but it is not possible anyway as the MC has not learned the spell yet, so he would need Peeps to cast it.

お隣さんがそもそも学校に通ってることに驚いた。いつからなんだ？　母親のおかげじゃないのは確かだ。まあ……もしかしたらそうなのかもしれないけど、ここまでの家庭内暴力を隠し通せてるのは、それだけでほとんど超能力だ。

I'm surprised that Neighbor-san even goes to school at all. When did that start? Because it sure as hell wasn't thanks to her mother. Well...Maybe it was, but managing to keep this level of domestic violence a secret is almost a superpower of its own.

お隣さんは中学生で、日本の中学校（アメリカの7〜9年生にあたる）は義務教育だ。だから通わないといけない。それに、ろくでもない母親が食べ物を一切くれないから、給食も要るんだ（前の話で描かれてた）。

She is middle schooler, and in Japan middle school(equivalent of 7-9th grade in USA) is compulsory education.
So she must attend it.
Also, she need school lunch since her deadbeat mom doesn't feed her any food at all(which was shown in earlier episode)

第2期はこうやって作るんだよ。
第1期も楽しかったけど、第2期の方がずっといい。
謎、演出、アクション、作画、それに今見たばかりの展開のあとのED。最高すぎる。

予想では、佐々木は命を助けてもらう代わりに、アバドンの使徒にならされる。そうなったら、生活がますますややこしくなるのは間違いないけど。

My guess is that Sasaki will get forced to be come Abaddon's discipline to save his life, which of course will only make his life even more complicated.

ピーちゃんの力は強いけど、その魔法も天界の存在には歯が立たないみたいだ。
佐々木は、ピーちゃんほど上手に魔法を使えないんだと思う。
ピーちゃんの魔力の量も、佐々木より多いんじゃないかな。

Seems that while Pii-chan's powers are strong, his magic is no match against celestial beings.
I'm pretty sure Sasaki can't use the magic as well as Pii-chan can.
I also think that Pii-chan's mana pool is bigger than Sasaki's.

it is the other way around. Pii-chan has magic knowledge, experience, etc, so he can cast high level spells, etc. But he is a bird, not his old human body, so his mana output is low.
on first season he made a pact/contract with human Sasaki so he could use the human's body. Sasaki is the battery and magic wand (his body), Pii-chan the compute power (brains).

でも確かに、あの経験があれば、あんな天使たちは大した脅威にならないだろうな。

Completely forgot about that.
But yeah with his experience i doubt those angels would pose much of a danger.

説明があったけど、天使と悪魔が弱体化してるのは、その体が自分の生命力のほんのちょっぴりから作った『仮の』体だからなんだ。壊しすぎて人間の世界を吹き飛ばさないようにね。向こうの世界で強いほど、仮の体も強くなる。本当に死んでるのは人間だけだ。

It was explained that the angels and demons are nerfed because those are 'virtual' bodies created from a smaallll piece of their lifeforce so that they don't implode the human world from the destruction. The more powerful you are in their realm, the more powerful your virtual body. The only ones dying for real are the humans.

完全に惚れ直したね。ピーク（ちゃん）回だ！

And she fell in love with him, all over again.
Damn, that episode was so peak(-chan).

うわ、このあとどうなるんだ。すごい引きだな。ピーちゃんが本気を出すところも見たいけど、そういう作品じゃないのは分かってる。

覚えてるかぎり、異世界の敵も、能力者も、魔法少女も、佐々木をここまで苦しめたことはなかった。この熾天使は、本当にとんでもない相手だ。
考えてみたら、佐々木がちゃんとした傷を負ったのって、これが初めてじゃないか？第1期でそんなことがあった覚えがない。間違ってたら誰か訂正して。

not even enemies from another world, psychic users and magical girls had given Sasaki this much trouble as far as i remember, this seraph really is one hell of a problem
now that i think of it, is this the first time Sasaki get a real injury because i don't remember something like that happening to him in the first season? someone correct me if i'm wrong

傷どころか、本人が気づくほど魔力を使ったのも、これが初めてだ。
はっきり『ああ、魔力をたくさん使うとこんな感じなのか』って言ってたし。

forget being injured, that was the first time he used enough of his mana for him to notice.
He straight up said "oh, is this what it feels like when you use a lot of mana"

うわ、この回が（というか今期ここまでが）こんなに暗いとは思わなかった。お隣さんを守って下半身を失った佐々木が死にかけてるところから、あのEDに行く落差がとんでもなくて笑う。どうやって助かるんだろう。
少なくとも、お隣さんと佐々木が今回ちゃんと会えた。もっとずっと引っぱるかと思ってた。それに、お隣さんを助けて天使たちと戦う佐々木は、かなりヒーローしてた。

Damn, I didn't expect this episode (and the season so far) to be so dark. That whiplash between Sasaki dying after losing the lower half of his body while protecting Otonari and the ED is so wild, lol. I wonder how he'll survive that.
At least Otonari and Sasaki met today, I thought that maybe they'll be delaying that much longer. And Sasaki was pretty heroic when he saved Otonari and fought those angels.

あの熾天使、シャレにならなかった！　すごく強い主人公がやられたのはいいと思う。ここからどう切り抜けるのか楽しみだけど、何より、ちゃんと強さの序列があって、主人公が最初から頂点にいるわけじゃないのがいい。そういう作品は多くないからね。佐々木は明らかに強いし手ごわいし、力の使い方も器用だけど、まだ伸びしろも学ぶことも残ってる。下位の天使を次々に食えるアバドンにも限界があると分かったのも面白かった。
お隣さんは深いトラウマを抱えてて、本当はカウンセリングが必要なのに、来たのは悪魔だった。それに、彼女が主人公に身を投げ出したがってても、佐々木が若い女の子につけこむような男じゃないのは、もう分かってる。

That seraph was no joke! I love that the very powerful MC got taken down. Looking forward to seeing how he gets out of this one but overall love that there’s real power scaling happening and our MC isn’t automatically at the highest end, unlikely many shows. He’s clearly quite potent, formidable, and flexible in his power set but he’s still got room to grow and learn. Was also cool to see Abbadon also has limits, despite being able to eat lesser angels one after another.
The neighbor girl has some deep seated trauma and could really use some therapy, but got a demon instead. And despite wanting to throw herself at the MC we already know he’s not the sort to take advantage of a young girl.

予想外の展開だった。この回はずっと、どうやってここから抜け出すのか、誰が助けに来るのかを考えてた。そしたら抜け出せないし、誰も来なかった。

Well that was certainly an unexpected twist, I spent the entire episode wondering how they were going to get out of this, or who would show up to help. Turns out they aren’t and none else showed up.

最初は脚を1本失っただけかと思った。でも全部が映ったら、胃がひっくり返ったよ。佐々木のとは違ってね。

I thought he just lost a leg at first, but after that whole reveal, my gut did a somersault unlike Sasaki's

すげえ！　ピーちゃんが乗り込んで、全部レーザーで焼き払わないと。ピーちゃん、あれは羽の生えた帝国兵だ。

弱気な少年と、弱っちい天使の相棒。この二人は長く残るキャラになりそうな気がする。とはいえ、少年がいきなり再登場するキャラになるのはパターンから少し外れるから、そうでもないかも。予想では、ピーちゃんが出てきて割って入る。OPにもそのヒントがある気がする。

Wimpy kid with his wimpy angel partner feel like the two who will probably stick around as long term characters in the story. Though it does break the pattern a bit for a boy to suddenly be reoccurring character, so maybe not.
My guess is Peeps will show up and intervene, I think there's even hints for that in the OP.

ピーちゃんっていう魔法の師匠がいなければ、佐々木はそこまで強くないのは知ってた。魔法を習い始めて、まだ日が浅いしね。でも、天使の攻撃で下半身を丸ごと持っていかれるとは、まったく予想してなかった。
お隣さんを守ろうとしてああなったのが、すごく佐々木らしい。ふだんは世間の常識を気にして、余計な手間は避けるけど、根は本当にいいやつなんだ。ここからどう回復するのか楽しみ。

I already knew Sasaki wasn't that strong without his magic master pi-chan since he's still pretty new to learning magic, but I definitely didn't expect his lower body to get completely sliced up and blown away by an angel's attack.
The fact that he ended up like that just trying to protect Neighbor-san was so fitting for Sasaki. He usually cares about social norms and avoids unnecessary effort, but deep down he's just a genuinely good guy. Can't wait to see how Sasaki recovers from this.
