Pretty sure any ships in transit would be able to detect if their first ship suddenly hit a mine and adjust to leave warp a bit sooner or later.

Directors love having a shot with both sides of the army in at the same time. This works in Napoleonic and earlier warfare where visual distance was much greater than effective fire distance so you could have both armies march at each other. But in space warfare, the ships would be a zillion miles apart. The only real limiting factor would be the energy loss from the lasers

I hate to be "that guy", but the Krishina doesn't seem very balanced. It's a small ship one shotting MUCH larger vessels. And that's not even talking about how OP the singing crystal is. Putting that aside, Hiro is just wrecking everyone before they can do anything about it

X-Shuttle、Xperimentalみたいなもんだな。SFサンドボックスのXシリーズ第1作『X Beyond The Frontier』の自機だ。
たしか、単体の拡張版『X-Tension』が出るまで船を乗り換えられなかった。
初代は乗り換えができないから、ちっぽけな初期の船だけで巨大なM2駆逐艦やM1空母を相手にできる強さが必要で、だからあんなぶっ壊れになった。クリシュナもそんな感じだ。

It's like the X-Shuttle/Xperimental, the player's ship in "X Beyond The Frontier", the first game of the X sandbox sci-fi series.
IIRC you couldn't switch ships until the stand-alone Expansion game "X-Tension".
So because you could not swap ships in the original first game, it had to be strong enough to deal with the huge M2 Destroyers and M1 Carriers with just your tiny starter ship somehow, which is why it ended up being so overpowered. Krishna is kinda like that.

The story reason was that the large ships had shields down due to the crystal lifeforms, and large ships without shields are basically like barns against a modern battle tank. Hit internal ammo or reactor and it all goes up.

his torpedos are specialized giant-killers that are armed with a shield-breacher. Obviously it's the range of engagement that's the issue since if could be shot down mid flight if fired at long range.

His lasers are just too strong so the shields can't hold. The lore is that projectile weapons including torpedoes or railguns use advanced ammunition with anti shield technology. It's similar to how two shields rapidly both fail if they both run into each other. Shields work on crystals but there should be too many thus they overwhelm the shields.

Shields take effect against torpedoes but not against the notThargoids and his lasers, but I guess what [the post above] is saying makes sense.
Would've been a good attention-to-detail thing to show the shields failing the moment they're fired on though.

シールドが何かで完全に剥がれでもしない限り、本物の大型艦相手にレーザーだけじゃどうにもならない。

Krishna has a massively efficient power generator. Basically imagine a car running on a plane's engine. Therefore it can overcharge its shields and energy weapons to way beyond it's weight class, but that's about it.
He still can't do s**t to actual large class ships on his own with his lasers, unless their shields get completely depleted somehow.

Hehe it was cute of Mimi holding her breath when they are coasting around the enemy before going into combat.

「音を立てるな」を真に受けすぎて、口まで手で押さえるミミも好きなんだよな

I also love how Mimi took "going silent" so seriously she had to cover her mouth.

クリシュナの3人、絆が深まって、ちゃんと息の合ったチームになってるのが分かるんだよな。連邦に勝ち目なんて無かった。まんまと懐に潜り込まれて、気づいた時には手遅れだ。しかもヒロのやつ、見つかったあとでわざわざ全艦のあいだを飛び抜けて、見せつけずにはいられないんだよ

It really shows how tight-knit the crew of the Krishna has grown that they're an efficient and effective team. The Federation didn't stand a chance, especially when the Krishna slipped right under their noses before it was too late. And Hiro just HAD to flex by flying through all of them even after getting caught.

「息を止めて時間を遅くする」やつ、見た目はマヌケすぎるのに、ちゃんとゲームっぽいんだよな

The "hold breath to slow down time" looks so goofy, yet gamey.

こいつはこの世界で血の通った人間なのに、ここがゲームの世界だって名残がまだ残ってる感じだよな

It's like he's a flesh and blood human being in this world but there are still vestiges of the fact that he's in a world of a video game.

魚雷発射！ しかもくっついてる歌う水晶が、進路のもの全部ぶっ壊す結晶生命体を呼ぶやつな！ これゲーム内のアイテムをヒロが現実で流用してるだろ。99%そうだ！

Fire torpedoes! With a singing crystal attached to it that summons Crystal Organisms that destroy everything in their path! I'm 99% sure this was an in-game item that Hiro is repurposing for real here!

結晶モンスターの動き、めっちゃ好き。

えっと、旗艦を潰すだけじゃなくて、宇宙怪獣を呼ぶ禁制品で残りの艦隊もついでに消すってこと？ ヒロ、イカれてる。

So we're not just destroying the flagship, we're also taking out the rest of the fleet too by the way of contraband that summons space monsters? Hiro is crazy.

ステルスと歌う水晶を組み合わせて、怪獣の群れを敵艦隊にぶつけるヒロ、かなりアツい展開だった。敵の敵は味方ってやつだ。

Hiro using a mix of stealth and a singing crystal to summon a monster horde to deal with the enemy fleet was a pretty cool development. The enemy of my enemy is my friend as they say.

で、イカれ野郎のヒロは、報酬を増やそうと、自分の手で1隻でも多く沈めるために乱戦へ戻っていく！ まさに虐殺だ、提供はキャプテン・ヒロでお送りしました！

And Hiro, madlad that he is, goes back into the fracas to destroy as many ships personally as he can for a bigger payout! It was a massacre, courtesy of Captain Hiro!

怪獣の群れを敵艦隊にけしかけて、あとから掃除してきっちり稼ぐ。いつものヒロだ。

Sent a horde of monsters after the enemy fleet and then went and cleaned up for a nice tidy profit. Classic Hiro.

あれだけ対艦魚雷を使っても、報酬はすごい額だったな。ミミ、その金で食べ物を買う以外に何に使うんだよ？

Even with the cost of all those anti-ship torpedoes, the crew got an amazing payout. What is Mimi going to do with all that money other than use it to buy food?

セレナ、今やヒロを狩りに来てるな。たぶん軍の勧誘だけの話じゃない。

Serena is now hunting for Hiro, and probably in more ways than merely military recruitment.

セレナはヒロを帝国に入れて兵士か騎士にしたくて仕方ないのに、ヒロは全然食いつかない。ミミとエルマは、セレナの狙いが仕事だけじゃないって2人とも見抜いてる。まあヒロは2人がそばにいれば満足なんだけどな。

Serena REALLY wants Hiro to join the Empire and become a soldier/knight, but he's not biting. Mimi and Elma can both tell that Serena's objective is less than professional, though Hiro is happy to just have the two of them by his side.

セレナ、何が何でもヒロを自分のもとで働かせる気だな。ミミの見立てはたぶん当たってる……

Serena's hellbent on making Hiro work for her, Mimi has probably got the right idea on that one...

傭兵のやつ、台詞すらなくノックアウトされるの好き。

I love how the merc guy doesn't even get any dialogue, he just gets knocked out.

セレナが諦めないのは明らかで、騎士の噂が広まって外堀を埋められてる。だからヒロはアレイン星系へトンズラだ！ 炭酸飲料を求める旅の邪魔は誰にもさせない！ ミミにはうまい肉、エルマにはうまい酒があるなら、なおのことだ！

Serena clearly won't let it go and rumors of Hiro being a knight are spreading to force the issue...so Hiro will just bail to the Arein Star System! He can't let anything get in the way of his quest for carbonated beverages! Especially if it means going where there's fine meat for Mimi and fine booze for Elma!

わざわざ自由に動ける新部隊の許可まで取ってきたのかよ。これならヒロも考え直すかもな。

She even went out of her way to get permission to form a new force that is allowed to travel freely, which i guess might make Hiro consider it.

でもセレナは止まらない。独立部隊を作って最後の1人まで狩り尽くすんだとさ……ついでにヒロを追いかける自由も手に入れてな。やっと家に帰れると思ってたあの部下の人、ご愁傷さま。

But Serena will not be deterred. She's forming her own independent force to hunt down and kill every last pilot...and also so she has the freedom to track down Hiro. My condolences to that poor lady who wanted to finally go home.

セレナのやつ、ヒロがどこへ行っても追いかけてくる気だな。

回の最後で通ってるのは超光速レーンで、たぶん普通の時空とは構造が違うんだろ。
とはいえ「本当の理由」は、超光速といえば派手な光のショーだって、少なくともここ50年は刷り込まれてきたからだよ。アニメーターもそれに合わせただけ。そもそもこれ、ガチのハードSFじゃないからな。これだけで冷めるって言うなら、もう何も言えない。

They're traveling through a hyperspace lane at the end of the episode, which presumably is structurally different than normal spacetime.
With that said, the "real explanation" is that we've been conditioned to expect fancy light shows in conjunction with FTL travel for at least the past 50 years so the animators followed suit. Note that this isn't a "hard" sci-fi show by any means to begin with, so if this alone is what breaks your suspension of disbelief then I don't know what to tell you.

It's kind of sweet how happy Mimi is with her life now after it completely fell apart when her parents died.

ミミとエルマの、2人だけのちょっとした場面も良かった。

and I liked the little extra personal moment between Mimi and Elma.

この2人のガチの友情があるから、クルーの絆に説得力が出るんだよな。

It's their genuine mutual friendship that helps sell the bond of the crew

やるなセレナ。帝国の金で好きな相手をストーカーして、しかもどこへでも行き放題かよ。

Smooth Serena. Getting funding from the empire to stalk your crush, with free reign to go anywhere.

ミミの亡くなった親御さんも安心していいぞ。娘はこれ以上ないくらい幸せにやってる。

But Mimi's dead parents can rest assured that she's as happy as she can be

Dude basically found a monster summon randomly early on and had been saving it to take out an entire battalion!

I am rejoicing because this will not be the last we see of Serena, regardless of which part of space Hiro travels to!

冗談なのは分かってるけど、セレナは悪役には入らないだろ。しつこいけど、ルールは一応ちゃんと守ってるし、ヒロに無理やり何かさせようともしないんだから。

I know you're joking, but Serena doesn't qualify as a villain because despite her persistence she actually follows the rules (such as they are) and doesn't try to force Hiro to do things against his will.

That poor uncle who probably genuinely believes his niece is on a holy mission to eradicate every pirate in existence and not get into some merc's pants.

A space pirate hunting fleet and he specializes in hunting pirates. Exponentially increase the likelihood they will run into each other again.

人生でいちばん好きなゲームがStar Control 2だから、結晶モンスターが出てきて最高だった。

My favourite game ever is Star Control 2, so seeing crystal monsters was great.

あの小さい船が巨大な戦艦級よりはるかに強い理由って、いつか説明されるのかな。主人公のすごい操縦技術で超光速レーザーをかわせるのは分かるけど、もうちょっと詳しく知りたい。

Is it ever explained just why and how his small ship is so much more powerful than giant battle-class ships, I get that he has some MC super pilot skills where he can just dodge FTL lazers but it would be nice for some clarity.

最強なのは船そのものじゃなくて、操縦の腕と反応魚雷だぞ。

It's not the ship itself being the strongest, its the piloting skills and reactive torpedoes.

あと、紫の水晶が割れたとき、なんで音が聞こえたんだ？ 宇宙は真空で空気がないんだから、音は伝わらないだろ。

Also, why did they hear a sound when that purple crystal broke? It's the vacuum of space, no air, sound can't travel.

ありそうなのは、紫の水晶がサイキックウェーブみたいなものを出してたって説明だな。それなら遠く離れてても人型には感じ取れるし、そのあとワープしてきて敵艦隊を襲った結晶生命体にも届く。

One plausible explanation would be that the purple crystal generated some sort of "psychic waves" which would presumably be perceivable across long distances by both humanoids and the crystal lifeforms that subsequently warped in and attacked the enemy fleet.

夕食でもしながら話しましょうって誘わなかったのが、逆に意外なくらいだ（たぶんその先もな）。

I was almost surprised she didn't ask him to discuss it over dinner (and probably more).

あの通信が終わった時点で、セレナがそう簡単に諦めるわけないって分かってた。

Even after ending that call, I just knew Serena wouldn't give up that easily.

正直、ヒロを別の星系に行かせないように、何か口実を作ってステーションに引き留めると思ってた。

Honestly I was expecting she was going to find some excuse to keep him on the station instead of letting him fly off to another star system.

一瞬、セレナを置き去りにして、ハーレムにも入れないまま終わるのかと思った。でも全然そんなことなかった。追ってくるんだよな。

For a moment I thought they were actually going to leave Serena behind and not have her join the harem eventually, but no she purses.

いちばんぶっ壊れてるのは魚雷でも結晶の怪獣でもなくて、どんな敵艦もサクッと沈められるビーム兵器だと思う。

I think the most broken thing isn't the torpedoes or the crystal creatures, but the beam weapon that can quickly sink pretty much any enemy ship.

毎回あっという間に終わるのがすごい。

It is amazing how fast these episodes go.

This episode wrapped up LN volume 1. Not sure how far we will go with the remaining 8 episodes.

あの活躍を見せられたら、セレナが騎士にしようとしつこく粘るのも無理ない。ミミとエルマが厳戒態勢なのも納得だな。

After that showing, I don't blame Serena for being so persistent to try and have him become her knight. Mimi and Elma being on high alert checks out too lol.
