4chan(/a/ の実況スレッド)
Plenty of cities in Europe were gross, overpacked messes. Honestly the shocking thing is that her family doesn't live with their extended family (aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins) since that was a norm back then. The idea that all buildings were 1 or 2 story is just not right since even the Romans had buildings pre-empire that were 5 stories tall and housed people. And the ground floor of most of those buildings are going to be storefronts or workshops so really there are only 3-4 flights for housing anyway.
Medieval houses were mainly made out of wood. Important buildings like churches/defenses were made of stone, since they were the buildings meant to last.
Exactly, mc has her own freaking bed, not sleeping on a floor of reeds covered in dogshit and grease, she's practically middle class.

>not sleeping against a rope tied across the room

even the damn egyptians had hygiene. with how advanced this society seems with apartment buildings and with magic existing and them even using water to clean themselves It just seems like lazy writing to imply nobody ever even by accident dropped their not an avocado's juice in water.

An adult woman shouldn't blush towards a child.
In the light novel it's implied she's basically had no relationships before so any form of "closeness" is bound to make her a little fluttered.

It may be that the kid brain mangled her personality a bit or something.
Or maybe she was simply a womanchild.

I really wish the translators for the LN, the manga and the anime just picked a typing and stuck with it. She is Myne, Main, Maine and even Maïne.
I'm sticking with Myne, it's seems cuter.
Judging by how she spelled it on the slate, it's supposed to be Main in the anime. They could have subbed it as Maïn to avoid confusion.
I think it's because of how they have her write her name on the slate. The characters seem to be modiphied alphabet and clearly say "MAIN"

>blushing at a 5 year old
Yes, she's essentially exactly the same mentally as she was before, but she also has access to the former kid's memories
You'll find that despite having been around 22 in her previous life, she's had no real life experiences at all beyond what her mother forced her to do, and it also often appears her young childlike body causes herself to act childish.
Urano was also just kinda dumb.
Well her brain is smaller than an adult's, so sure that has an effect.

It's weird that mere soldiers can read and write.
Not really, a number of soldiers learned how since it was a good path to move up the ranks some (to a small extent at least). And Myne's father heads a guard post so he would need to know how to read and write so as to know who was who and such.

Have you read a book today, /a/?
Crystalizing public opinion is worth a read and extremely relevant today
Reddit(r/anime
One thing I'm noticing that they aren't explaining too well is the concept that Urano can't use words in the world's language that Myne doesn't know. Whenever she tries, it comes out in Japanese instead. That's why she has to ask "what's this" for things like parchment, ink, numbers, and the book at the shop. It's so that she can gain this world's vocabulary. It's not a huge thing and I imagine it'd be kinda hard to put it in so I don't fault them for it, but I thought I'd share regardless.
It is strange that they didn't explain this, as they could easily do that in one of those segments that show her reacting to things.
They included part of the scene where she finds out from the light novel, but they chopped the scene in half and removed the portion where she figures it out. It's the scene when Tooli first comes to check up on her. She tries to explain what a book is, but Tooli just gets more and more confused with each word that Myne doesn't know until Urano just screams that her translation feature's busted.
I'm curious, is there also a missing explanation for why Urano essentially having taken over Myne's body as a brain-parasite isn't as messed up as it seems? Because it sure feels like a 5-year-old girl was killed and turned into a body/memory repository for a reincarnated librarian.
Otto-san > otou-san
Poor Dad getting jealous!
I just figured why Dad is extra jealous of Otto in the story. When reading the manga I didn't get this pun.
Main's reaction when Lutz was complementing her hair is just perfect
I love how you can still see the girls and mom's hair all shiny in this shot.
Slate get! It's not much but at least Main now has something inexpensive to write on.
Seeing her blushing to her ears was so satisfying after the smug look she had while observing Ralph and Turi.
[Nice end illustration](https://i.imgur.com/2eYv3YX.png) by the artist of the manga version. Of course Main is trying to sneak a peek at spoilers ahead.
Also, the [blu-ray art for the first box is really pretty too.](https://twitter.com/anime_booklove/status/1181865447278305280)
I like that there a bit of thought has been put into this being a medieval (maybe early renaissance) world, with all its limitations. Something that most isekai ignore or wave around with magic. I was expecting Main to start improving things with her knowledge, but I wasn't expecting the first development to be shampoo. Though I liked that it was a more personal thing connected to her old mother, rather than just something she had conveniently read about.
Myne can't help but spoiler, can she?
Also I'm pretty sure that exact bookmark is for sale.
I like how eager Myne in everything she wants to do. She sets a goal, and she moves toward that goal with all her might. Amazing determination.
Kind of weird that her name was transliterated as Main, not as Myne.
Willm Shakp
William Shaksper
Wm Shakspe
William Shakspere
Willm Shakspere
William Shakspeare
>Kind of weird that her name was transliterated as Main, not as Myne.
This is before the standardisation of spelling.
Myne name is spelled, every which way you can possible spell it.
Even William Shakespeare spelt his name this many ways;
Willm Shakp
William Shaksper
Wm Shakspe
William Shakspere
Willm Shakspere
William Shakspeare
And those are just the six existing examples of how he spelled his name. It's likekly he also used, "Shakespeare", "Shakespere", "Shakespear", "Shackspeare", & various other spellings.
So Myne's name is spelled; Main, Majn, Mayn, Maine, Majne, Mayne, Man, Min, Myn, Mjn, Mane, Mine, Myne, Mjne, & whatever else works.
I find it rather funny that it's mostly in engish that the spelling of Main doesn't "fit". In German, Spanish and Japanese is totally a non issue. (and any other language where the glyphs match always the same sound)
Kind of weird that her name was transliterated as Main, not as Myne.
Well, Otto writes her name on the slate as Main too... so it's not just CR doing it.
I think it's because in Japanese, ま is Ma い is I and ん is N. If you listen to her speak out the letters she says "Ma i N." She of course writes it in Katakana, マイン
So you're saying she's a zombie.
a very smart zombie perhaps 😀
Yes, from all the brains she's probably eating off-screen.
Great episode. This show is quickly shaping up to be one of my favourites of the season. Main shenanigans are fun and the cast is good too
It's rapidly breaking away from the pack for me. The backgrounds are a bit simple but the character art is well done and has it's own style. The humor is well executed. I especially liked the 'I should have wrapped it in a cloth' bit this episode.

It is 14 episodes they have more time than your usually anime. Probably wanted to adapt all of part 1.
Main with hair down is gorgeous.

I'm kinda disappointed at how they chose to portray her hair after using the shampoo, in the LN it was described as so beautiful that my imagination went so wild that it made my expectation of the visual adaptation went so high, but the "shiny" effect they use in this looks kinda like a cheap DeviantArt filter :/
I'm loving the atmosphere of this anime. It's pretty rare to see an anime with a fantasy/medieval setting from the view point of people in poverty
medieval setting from the view point of people in poverty
I think you finally made me realize why I kept getting serious Les Miserables anime adaptation vibes from this. The focus on a little girl (the anime Les Mis was focused on Cosette and she's young for like half the anime) helps too.
Between this show pointing out rainbow colored hair and the average ability isekai pointing out the generic truck, I think we've reached peak isekai
plus we have a Isekai with super humans on one side and a ultra weak MC on the other. Talk about extremes for first episodes lol.

Loved how she was laughing that her sister can’t take a compliment but ends up with a double nose bleed when the youngest boy compliments her.
Also funny that Main is the main character
Still don't understand the low score on MAL
Greenhorns down voting because they hate everything not either kyoani or SAO style. Man back in the day, this would have been considered superb animation.
It's just a different artstyle. Kazuki-sensei clearly wanted this style since this studio does a lot of modern style, like Izzetta, so why would they change.
Don't know if it's related, but during my almost-a-year experience with MAL I noticed some shows dropping in ratings way faster than they should. Like, I understand that any show drops bit by bit because more people watch it and it gets older and new shows drop quickly for similar reasons but when I was watching Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in February I guess it had I think 7,98 and now it has 7,89. It's unusual for a 13 years old show to drop this much.
I also realise of the genre and visual bias but it can't be helped. However up until now I was more or less ok with the average ratings (I understood why they were at this level) and now... 6,8? Come on
Just don't use MAL, it's crap. I don't even know if they have any bot protections, but my guess is they don't.
> It's just a different artstyle. Kazuki-sensei clearly wanted this style since this studio does a lot of modern style, like Izzetta, so why would they change.
Uh, source? I never saw any interview with him saying that, even more when the artstyle of the light novel is amazing and the manga is pretty good.
> clearly
> since
I don't need to provide a source since my statement was obviously an interpretation. Since when is it ok to fact check opinions?
Chibi Maine blurting spoilers is the best running gag lol! And while I mocked her over the chickens last episode, considering how freaking big pigs are I don't blame her for fainting this time.
Her blushing when Lutz complimented her was so adorable! And her imagine spots are getting funner by the episode, I'm really loving this adaptation
The "Shampoo" they made I don't think is how you make shampoo...
Edit: Apparently there's these things called "cleansing oils" that people make and women wash their hair in straight oil, weird. So this is real I guess.
So they're calling out directly that everyone has rainbow non-real hair colors. Wow.
It's not that strange, your hair follicles produce oil to protect the keratin, that's what gives dirty hair that greasy texture, it's also what dirt sticks to in your hair. Oil can't be washed out with just water as oil doesn't dissolve in water, by getting the water hot the oil emulsified and then they could wash the dirt out of their hair because the emulsified oil pulled the dirty oil off their hair. And because it doesn't strip away all the oil like soap would, they don't need to condition!.
For proper soap/shampoo it wouldn't be that much harder, it would need ash for potassium hydroxide and some boiling, but it's more dangerous and tiring, hardly the stuff you let a sickly 5 year old do.
Myne/Main needs to meet up with Senku.
Is her name Main or Mine?
Mine(Google翻訳)、Main、Maïn(漫画の最初の翻訳グループ)、Maine(Web版の最初の翻訳者が最初に使ってた)、Maïne(同じ翻訳者が後から使った)、そして Myne。
It's ``マイン`` and pronounced as the English word "Mine" (as you can hear).
But we have had many different romanisations of it: Mine (Google TL), Main, Maïn (used by first manga TL group), Maine (originally used by first WN translator), Maïne (later used by first WN translator), and Myne.
Myne is the best one because it's what the official license holder (JNC) of the manga/LN use and because the JNC translator was so in conflict about what to use (they started with Maine because they looked at the first few WN translations but then people wanted Maïne because that was used later) that they even emailed the original author and they themselves picked ``Myne``.
厳密には Maïn(ウムラウト付き)だろうね。
Technically it's probably Maïn (with the umlaut). In Japanese it's マイン, which directly transliterated is "main". In the "in-world" characters it's also "main". However you read it in English as "myne" which is the closest approximation of the sounds in English.
So they're both correct.
This is what happens when you have a Japanese author writing characters and lore using germanic names and then an English translation translating those Japanese-ification of Germanic names to English.
This is what happens when you have a Japanese author writing characters and lore using germanic names and then an English translation translating those Japanese-ification of Germanic names to English.
Then to make it even worse it's meant to be a word play I believe.
She died when 22 and is now 5. She is 27. Quick mats.

Turi looks like she's in the middle of changing her happy and enthusiastic smile into a pikechuface.
> The shampoo empire (that will make the family rich) begins!
I think Main is also lucky that she has pretty hair, which means she makes the best use of the shampoo.
I really like the story and the show is taking a slow pace approach into making Myne's dream of making a book a reality. It seems that we will have to wait for a while to her making that papyrus as I doubt that she will be able to do it in winter, especially knowing that she will more likely be sick during that season.
Today's end card.
Butterfly in the sky. I can fly twice as high.
Anyways I love the little fantasy bits like during the "life improvements" thing. Well anyways she may not be able to Dr. Stone herself up some books easily but shampoo on the other hand is as good a start as any. And I hope someone out there makes of gif of Main doin the Gallagher on that fruit.
First episode hooked me hard. I've since caught up to the currently translated LN releases. Thank god its JNC who has it, I can read it every week.
Really loving how they're adapting this especially with all the chibi exaggerations of Myne's mind, though I'm really glad I dove right into the source since they've skipped a lot of winter prep. Granted most of it is kind of inconsequential and given time constraints the fat has to be trimmed, but the books really adds to the feeling of being a poor family prepping for winter in medieval times that I'm worried we might miss to get to the meat of making books.
Gotta find more Isekai based in reality. Too many of them lean on game mechanics so when one comes out like this thats just surviving a realistic middle ages fantasy its such a breath of fresh air
Not necessarily isekai (and mostly literature), but r/rational might be worth to check
Mother of Learning
I do head over there every time Mother of Learning gets updated, I really should find the popular novels on that sub
This is the slowest paced show I've ever watched, I swear. Not necessarily a bad thing, it really allows you to take in the characters and world. But this is not the pacing I expected from an isekai, lol.
* Did they change the translation of "Myne" to "Main"? Is it because everyone hates Shield Hero's Myne?
* I've never been a fan of the harpsichord, I hope there isn't much more of it in the OST
* Kinda weird that she can just like search through her host body's memories?
* The 8-year old stays home and watches the 5-year old? Reminds me of a [John Mulaney bit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uD-akXggZA), it's like leaving a horse in charge of your dog.
* Hey, Turi's hair is [all shiny](https://i.imgur.com/Z7Mdif6.png) now too, since she got to use the shampoo! Nice touch.
* Are....are they teasing a romance between a 20-year-old and a 5-year-old? uhhhhhhhh
* "Otto-san" sounds an awful lot like "Otou-san," I thought she was calling that guy "Dad" at first.
* Oh looks like they might've changed the spelling of her name in the subtitles because of how it's written in that language.
* So are people gonna be weirded out if they see her writing in Japanese? Maybe they'll just think it's doodlings.
* Aaaaaand she forgot about making papyrus.
The mechanics of this isekai are basically nightmare fuel if you think about it. Myne was a real, living girl before Urano's consciousness got put into her. It's not like Myne was replaced, her memories are still there. But there's also no indication that, like, their minds are "sharing" the body either. So is Myne just trapped somewhere in Urano's subconscious, screaming silently to be let out and freed, watching as she her body does things she isn't doing? Or did putting Urano's mind into Myne's body effectively lobotomize Myne? Like the conscious part of her mind was basically killed? And why does someone so into books and knowledge (and presumably philosophy) like Urano have *no existential crisis or moral dilemma* over all of a sudden taking over another person's life and body?
