she can relate to doing what you have to in order to survive because the whole story starts with her being kidnapped and sold into slavery. She can recognize when other people are slaves in all but name and that if she'd been in their circumstances she'd probably do the same

たぶん時間が足りなかったんだろう。この回には、楼蘭妃と猫猫、子昌と妻の修羅場、それに壬氏と禁軍の攻撃と、詰め込むものが多すぎた。壬氏と禁軍の攻撃だけの回だったら、漫画や小説みたいに攻撃の全体を説明できたかもしれない。
Lack of time most likely, they had to cram so much content into this episode, Loulan-Maomao, Shuishui-Wife drama, and then the assault from Jinshi-Royal guard. Had It been entirely about Jinshi and the royal guard's assault they might have been possible to explain the entire assault like the manga and the novel.

The first half with Shisui was executed well. The second half, well, the battle needed more animation. Everything was rushed. I don't think Jinshi and Maomao's reunion needed more animation per say but it needed more impact. Like >>279652271 said, this scene was butchered.

It depends on the situation. Anyone blood-related to the clan is going to be put to death. Rebellious soldiers not actually related are also usually put to death, but sometimes they are spared if there is a convenient war or military posting with high attrition that they can "redeem themselves" in (i.e. get killed with some semblance of honor in service to the empire).
One can never have too many cannon fodder troops when there's a war on.

It's real and not even the only time Lahan brings it up. He's severely disappointed Jinshi is a man because he's got perfect facial measurements for beauty and Lahan being who he is wants someone like that for a wife.

They really did Jinmao dirty this episode. This good moment was turned into a throwaway joke in the anime. And this was just one of many things they rushed.
Between this botched job and having to wait 2 weeks for the next episode, I think I'm done following the show for now. So disappointing.

Honestly I could forgive the animation if everything else was decent, but even the pacing and direction were off. I've just checked out the manga version and it was much easier to understand. They tried to cram 4 chapters into the latest episode, no wonder it didn't turn out well.

The Jinmao reunion scene has to be the most anticlimactic reunion I've ever seen in anime. Jinshi's stupid af if he's still trying to get with that brick wall later. That girl DOES NOT give a s**t about him.

Why didn't she just snitch to the Emperor? I get that everyone in their family was probably going to die either way but she could've at least saved the lives of a lot of retainers who had absolutely no idea what the f**k was going on. I know they're going to asspull the kids back to life either way but I honestly figure the Emperor could've found a way to not kill them out of respect for her as he's shown to be a reasonable person.

いろいろ明かされたあとでも、猫猫があまりに普段どおりで壬氏は完全に面食らってたし、こんなに深刻な空気の中で猫猫が壬氏の年をからかったのは最高に笑えた。
Finally seeing Loulan tell her mom to f**k off and rescuing Suirei was cathartic, even more so when her father was there being shocked as well.
Jinshi was totally taken aback from Maomao acting so casual even after all the reveals, hell the fact she even poked fun at his age was hilarious especially when they're in such a serious atmosphere.

Honestly, I am not surprised Shishou was shocked. This episode made it clear he has been in misery for 20 years an unaware what was really the case for both his daughters. Who Loulan truly was and hell what Suirei had to endure.

李白はこの作品でいちばん有能で、いちばんまともなキャラの一人だよ。個人的に、李白と猫猫は兄と妹みたいな関係とやり取りだと思ってる。
Lihaku is like one the most competent and well adjusted characters in the series. Personally I view him and Maomao as having a brother sister relationship and interactions.

The animators didn't want to jump scare us like in S1, so when Lihaku mentioned Lakan, Maomao was cleverly positioned to be facing away from us (the viewer) so only Lihaku experienced the "glare".

I love how they have top tier seiyuu Kouki Uchiyama and gave him such a minor role and so little dialogue lol.
まだ名前の出てない羅漢の副官で、1期からときどき出てる。そう、公式にめちゃくちゃ美形だよ。
He's Lakan's yet unnamed assistant which has been showing up occasionally since season 1. And yes he's canonically gorgeous.

銀行強盗の決まり文句「金を袋に入れろ、そうすれば誰も傷つかない」のもじりです。英語圏の映画やドラマでおなじみの台詞で、ここでは金の代わりに猫猫を袋に入れろと言っています。軍を率いて乗り込んできた壬氏を、猫猫をさらいに来た強盗に見立てた冗談で、続く返信も、撃てるものなら撃ってみろという強盗映画の調子で応じています。
