There is something offputting how everything is displayed in the usual quirky anime light. I'm not saying that it needs to be requiem for a dream, but I'm not sure it should be quite so upbeat considering how f****d their lives are.

いや話したいことが多すぎる。
なぜかこの場面、短いのにちょっと泣きそうになった。かなり強いメッセージだと思う。いったんその道に落ちたら、立ち直っても世間は許してくれない。ずっと値踏みされ続けて、結局また現実から逃げるために元の習慣に戻ってしまう。
この場面もそう、この作品どこまでリアルなんだよ。自分は37歳だけど、父親が学校に迎えに来るときのあの気持ちは今でも覚えてる。ほかの子はみんな親に来てほしがってたのに、自分は母か祖父母にだけ来てほしかった。父はよく酒の匂いをさせて現れた。そういう人だと分かってはいたけど、自分に見えているのと同じ姿を他人に見られたくなかった。まだ父のことを大事に思っていたから。それに面倒になるのも分かってた。癇に障る言い方をしてくる子がいて、自分は爆発してしまうから。
これは本気で良い作品だ。残りの話がどこに着地しようと構わない。最初の2話だけで自分の中では高く評価できる。

When you go down this road, even if you get back on track, society will not forgive you. You will be judged, and you will most likely return to your old habits as a way to escape reality again.

Again this [one](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/abb25732e12d.jpg), my god how real can this show be dude. I'm 37 but I remember feeling this whenever my dad went to pick me up at school. While most kids wanted theirs to go pick them up, I truly only wanted my mother or my grandparents. My dad would often show up smelling like alcohol. I knew he was like this, but I didn't want everyone else to see him like I did because I still cared for him. And I already knew I would get into trouble, cuz some kids would get underneath my skin with certain remarks and I would just explode.

This is a seriously good show. I don't even care where the rest of the episodes land. These first 2 are enough for me to rank it highly.

妹はヤニ子のせいでストレスを溜め込みすぎていて、いざ愚痴をこぼしたら友達に「そんな大きな声が出せたんだ」と言われる始末。

The poor sister has so much stress built up because of Yani, that the moment she gets to vent about her her friends say they never knew she could be so loud.

ヤク子が吸っていたものが合法な国の視聴者へ：あれは日本では違法だ。初犯なら執行猶予が付くのが普通で実刑になることは少ないけど、それでも学校か仕事は辞めることになる。
ヤク子が「致命的な欠点」を除けば実はいい人なのが面白い。
逆にハメ子はタバコも「タバコではないが紙に巻いて火をつけて吸うもの」も吸わないのに、ネーミングセンスが壊滅的。
一見すると現代日本が舞台に見えるのに、「獣人同士の親から生まれた子には名字がない」とか「獣人には珍しい名字が多い」とか、種族間の差がはっきり描かれているのが印象的だった。
現実の日本では「名字のない人」は法律上存在できない。

It's funny how yakuneko is actually a nice person, aside from her "fatal flaw".

In contrast, hameneko doesn't smoke cigarettes or "things that aren't cigarettes but are rolled in paper, lit, and smoked", but her sense of naming is absolutely terrible.

It’s striking how, despite the world appearing at first glance to be set in modern-day Japan, there are actually quite stark differences between races: such as the fact that "people with both beastman parents don’t have last names" and that “many beastmen have ‘unusual last names".

In real-life Japan, "people without last names" cannot legally exist.

From this episode it seems Hameneko's vices are "just" anger issues and a somewhat delusional/weird mindset, I do agree that compared to the other two she seems less messed up so far...

With Yanineko's room looking like a horror movie, I was surprised to see how clean Hameneko's room in the same apartment building was, though I guess she has to keep it clean for her streaming haha

the hame in Hameko probably refers to ハメ, a vulgar slang term for f*****g/s*x, derived from 嵌める (to insert, to plunge, but also to entrap/deceive [someone]), could also refer to 羽目 (awkward situation)

Yani's sister Imoko is just uses the kanji for little sister (妹子) with the same ko suffix as everyone else

自分も薬物のことはほとんど知らないけど、あれは大麻じゃないとかなり思う。ヤニ子なら大麻くらい見ればわかるはずだし、吸わない人でもだいたいわかるものだ。何かを混ぜたタバコじゃないかな。どうせ注射してるのも覚醒剤だろうから、それかもしれない。

I know basically nothing about drugs as well, but I am fairly sure the thing they were smoking wasn't weed. It's quite likely Yani would have recognised weed, basically everybody can even if they don't smoke it. My bet is that it was a cigarette laced with something - maybe meth since that's probably what she injects anyway.

その居心地の悪さこそが狙いなんだと思う。依存症って本当にどうしようもないものだから。自分は昔1日1箱以上吸ってたから、この作品はかなり身につまされる。
ヤニねこの禁断症状の描き方は、実際のつらさにかなり忠実だよ。この作品は依存から抜けることがどれだけ難しいかを描いていて、そこにユーモアをかぶせてるから、ただの猫娘鬱アニメにならずに済んでると思う

I think that's kind of the point of having the uncomfortable feeling. Addiction f*****g sucks. This show has hit close to home for me because I used to be a pack a day (at least) smoker.

Yanineko's withdrawals are actually pretty accurate to how awful they can be. This show is highlighting just how difficult addiction can be, undercut with humor so it's not just depression porn with cat girls imo

Watching this was like watching an episode of hoarders, or a show that covers disorders like people eating things that aren't food

This is what anime is all about. New and silly things.

今期は名前を変えたストリートファイター6と、本物のストリートファイター6の両方があるのか。日本でかなり流行ってるのは知ってたけど、「一期に二本のアニメに出る」ほどとは思わなかった。

So we've got a genericized Street Fighter 6 and actual Street Fighter 6 this season. I knew the game had gotten very popular in Japan, but I didn't expect it to be 'featured in two different anime in one season' popular.

タバコを吸う猫娘のアニメで、法的に別物ということにされたケンとザンギエフのSA1を見ることになるとは思わなかった。

Yeah, I definitely didn't expect seeing a legally distinct Ken and Gief SA1s in my smoking catgirl anime.

これは今年のアニメ、いや10年のアニメだろ！　『ボージャック・ホースマン』あたりが目指してたものそのものだ！

I mean. Why do you HAVE to watch it? It's not even a plot driven show, you can just drop it right here and forget about it. If it's not your thing, why force yourself to watch it?

ヤニ子の友達もそろってどうしようもない奴らだと分かって良かった。この作品は最高だし、今回の話でどこかの誰かの変な扉が開いたと思う

It's good to know Yani has friends that are also f*****g disasters. This show's great, and I bet this episode is the awakening of the freak in some people out there.

足でグリグリするあのシーンは間違いなく自分の中の何かを開いた。もうそういうのが目覚める歳じゃないと思ってたのに（笑）

もう1話ぶん付き合ってみたけど、やっぱり自分には下品すぎる。ただヤク子のパートはちょっと面白かった、間の取り方が良かった。1話よりは笑えたかな

I gave it another episode, but it's still too crude for me. I did find Yaku Neko's portion of the episode a bit funny, the comedic timing was good. I was more humored by this episode than the first.

ハメというのは要するに、何かを打ち込む・ねじ込むという意味。英語で「screw」を性的な俗語として使うのと同じように、俗語で使う人もいる。
かめはめ波のほうはハワイの王カメハメハ大王が元で、亀＋波の語呂合わせ（亀仙人は亀の仙人だから）。ハメの部分は嵌める／ハメるとは何の関係もない。

The hame thing is basically nailing or screwing something. Some people just use it as a slang similar to how people use the verb “to screw” as a slang “to f**k”.

Kamehameha is based on the hawaian king - Kamehameha the Great and a play on words of turtle + wave (since Master Roshi was a turtle hermit). The hame basically has no relation to 嵌める/ハメる

うちの母親も喫煙者で、ここのヤニ子ほどひどくて汚くはないけど完全に依存してる。
タバコ代は毎月の家計を圧迫してて、シングルマザーの母がその影響をいちばん受けてた。自分ときょうだいで何度も、やめるよう、せめて試してみるよう説得したけど、今ではそういう話をされること自体を自分の人格や好みへの攻撃と受け取る。もう自分の一部になってしまってるんだ。
自分は一度もタバコに手を出さなかったし、家を出てからは肺の調子も過去最高、家の匂いもだいぶマシになった（あのヤニ臭さがどうやっても消えないの、本当に謎）。だからイモコが姉に対してキレる気持ちはすごく分かる。自分を痛めつけてるのに変わろうともしない人間が身近にいるのは本当にしんどい。まだその人を大事に思ってるならなおさら。
ただ残念なことに、ヤニ子はかわいい猫娘で胸も大きいから、みんな「完全に俺じゃん」で終わって、結局この界隈は何も学ばないんだろうなと思う

My mother is a smoker, not as heavy and disgusting as Yani here, but she's definitely addicted.
Smoking put a strain on the family's budget every month and mom, as a single mother, felt the effects of that the most. My sister and I tried to talk her into getting rid of the addiction or at least trying something numerous times, but at this point she considers this kind of talk an attack on her personality and interests, like it's now a core part of her.

I'm proud to say that I've never fallen into cigarettes myself and after moving out, my lungs have never been cleaner, and the house smells pretty good for the most part (I have zero clue how some trash smell just lingers no matter what). I totally get Imo's crash out about her sister, since having someone like this that is actively hurting themselves but *won't even try* to change is incredibly stress inducing, especially if you still care for them.

Unfortunately I fear that because Yani is a cute catgirl with nice tits, people will see this and go "she's literally me" and we as a community will learn absolutely nothing.

I know this comment us kind of old but it reminds me of those people who started dying meth blue after Breaking Bad. Unfortunately it'll happen.

1話も好きだったけど、今回はもっと好きになった！　アニメはたくさん見てきたけど、大麻を吸ったりヘロインを打ったりするのを見たのは初めてだ。日本のテレビで禁止されてるのかは知らないけど、ヤク子がヤニ子を叱って「吸い方が違う、ちょっと肺に溜めるんだ」と言うところや、その「タバコ」にフィルターが付いてないところで、直接言わずに何をやってるか分からせる作りが好き（笑）。ヤク子が何を注射してたかも、机の上に下剤が置いてあることで分かるようにしてた。普通の人は下剤をあんな手の届く場所に出しっぱなしにしないけど、オピオイドはひどい便秘になるからね。
この作品はすごく幻想的な感触がある。『トレインスポッティング』と『フリッツ・ザ・キャット』の子どもみたいな。冒頭でヤニ子が幻覚を見てたのは、ヤク子と一緒に大麻を吸ったあとの出来事のつもりなんじゃないかと思ってる。そうでないと幻覚を見る理由がよく分からないし。まあ統合失調症か何か重い精神疾患という可能性も十分あるけど。
笑いどころが多すぎるけど、ヤク子が足でヤニ子の股を震わせてたところは、どちらかというと達してたように見えたし、ショートパンツを濡らしてたのもおしっこじゃなかったんじゃないか。あと手相占いの人は本当に不思議な力があったわけじゃなくて、ヤク子が指摘してたとおり、ただよく見てただけだと思う。ヤニ子はタバコ臭いし指もヤニで汚れてただろうし、ヤク子は半袖だったから腕の注射痕が見えてたはず

I liked the first episode but I loved this one even more! I've watched a lot of anime and this is the first time I've ever seen someone smoke pot or shoot heroin on there. IDK if that's prohibited on Japanese TV but I like how they got around saying exactly what Yaku was doing when she scolded Yani and said that's not how you smoke it, you have to hold it in for a bit and the "cigarette" didn't have a filter tip 🤣. Also they made it clear what Yaku was injecting when they showed her table had laxatives on it; normal people wouldn't just leave laxatives out for easy access but opiates cause severe constipation.

This show has a really surreal feel, like if Trainspotting and Fritz the Cat had a baby. I wonder if the scene where Yani was hallucinating at the beginning was intended to have taken place after she smoked a joint with Yaku because it doesn't make a lot of sense for her to otherwise be hallucinating although it's very possible she has schizophrenia or other severe mental illness.

So many funny parts but when Yaku was vibrating Yani's crotch with her foot, it almost seemed more like she orgasmed and that that wasn't supposed to be pee that her shorts were soaked with. I also suspect the palm reader actually didn't have magical powers but was more just observant, as Yaku pointed out. Yani smelling like smoke and likely having tobacco stained fingers was a tip off, and I imagine Yaku's arms had needle tracts since she was wearing a short sleeve shirt.

正直、ヤニ子がフィルター付きのタバコを吸ってるのはまだ救いだよな。フィルター無しのもっときついやつだったらと思うとゾッとする

Honestly, it's kinda fortunate that Yaniko most probably smoke filtered cigarettes. Imagine if she smoked something more harsh without filters.

うわ、ダメな猫が1匹じゃなくて、ダメな猫の群れだったのか。……いや真面目な話、これが良い形で終わる気がしない。最後に誰かが悲惨なことになるか、そろって底に向かって落ち続けるかのどっちかだろ。完全にお互いを甘やかしてる。
あとイモコ、「ああいう連中」にならないように必死なんだよな。学校の友達のあのさりげない当てこすりがまたきつい。
あと「狂獣予防」みたいなやつ、狂犬病の予防接種みたいに毎年打つものなのか？

たしかにそうかもしれないけど、作品がほのめかしてるのはトイレが近い体質のほうだと思う。食後はいつもトイレにこもってたし、改名の手続き中にも急にトイレへ駆け込んでただろ

While true, I believe what the show is actually hinting that she has a weak bladder. I mean, she was always waiting on the toilet after a meal, and notice how sudden she gets to the point she needed to dash for the toilet while getting the name change.

I got the implication she had something very bad with her bowels or she actually uses a stall to “touch” herself… Or maybe both…

今回も好きだけど1話のほうが好きだったな。キャラ紹介の回だからだと思いたいけど、今回は断片的なネタの寄せ集めで話が薄かった。もう少し筋の通った話とキャラの変化が見たかった（配信の失敗が今後の活動にどう響くのか、とか）

I liked this episode but prefered the first one. Im hoping is because its setting up characters but this episode felt like just a bunch of put together clips with not much story involved. I was hoping for a more coherent story with characters arcs(like how that streaming failure will effect her career)

まあ、1話ほど気が滅入る内容ではなかったかな。1話はタバコ産業を憎むようになったし、ここまで依存が進んだ人間を立ち直らせる方法はあるんだろうかと考えさせられた。今回はもっと仲間意識があった、と言っても限りなくゆるい意味でだけど。友達だから多少は互いを気にかけてる、って感じ？　チェーンスモーカー猫が一人で飢えてた頃よりはずっといい。
それにしても、アダルトスイムやサウスパークのフォロワーをやってるアメリカのアニメーターたちは、こんな作品がここまでやれるのが悔しいだろうな。これを見たあとだと、『リック・アンド・モーティ』やサウスパークの過激ぶった感じが全部かわいく思えてくる

Well, I suppose this was less depressing than the first episode. The first episode made me hate the tobacco industry and made me wonder if there was a way to get someone this far gone off their addiction. This one had a lot more camaraderie, to use that term in the loosest possible way. Like, I guess since they are friends they can look out for each other? Way better than when the chain smoker cat was alone and starving herself.

Man, there's got to be a whole lot of American animators from the Adult Swim / South Park knockoff area jealous that a show like this can go this far. Like, this show makes all of the edgelord Rick And Morty / South Park stuff feel like absolutely nothing.

占い師のコールドリーディングがあからさまだったのが良かったし、ヤク子が「それ当たり前だろ」とツッコミを入れながらまんまと引っかかってたのも良かった。あと腕の注射痕も見てたんだろうな

I appreciated how blatantly obvious the fortune teller's cold read was, and that Yakuneko fell so hard for it despite calling it out. Also, she probably spotted track marks on Yakuneko.
